Cancel land allotment for Jindal project: HRF to Andhra governemnt
In a fact-finding visit from July 5-7, a three-member HRF team met farmers in Mushidipalle, Kiltampalem, Moola Boddavara, Chinakandepalli, and Cheedipalem. The farmers, many of whom are Dalits and Adivasis, have been protesting at Boddavara, demanding that the government reclaim the land and return it to the landless and marginal cultivators.
The HRF noted that the original Bauxite Supply Agreement with JSWAL was cancelled in 2016, yet the government did not revoke the land allotment.
In 2023, a new GO allowed a change of land use from refinery to MSME park, a move HRF criticised as favouring private interests. They raised concerns over allocation of water from the Thatipudi reservoir, a key source for irrigation and drinking water, to the proposed park.
HRF condemned the assault on Dalit farmer Muthyala Sanyasi Rao for opposing a company, demanding a probe. It called for G.O. 14's cancellation, land reclamation, redistribution to affected farmers, a time-bound inquiry into the allotment process, and accountability for those responsible.

Dalit student found dead on Armoor Social Welfare Residential College campus, family alleges negligence
NIZAMABAD : Intermediate second-year student Gaddam Santhosh (19), studying at the Social Welfare Residential College near Pipri road under Armoor police station limits, tragically died by suicide on Saturday morning. He was found hanging from a tree on the college premises. After the morning physical exercises, college staff and students noticed Santhosh was missing. A search led to the heartbreaking discovery, and police and family members were immediately informed. Santhosh's body was shifted to the government hospital for a postmortem and later handed over to the family. He had attended morning exercises and was last seen heading to the bath around 6:40 am. He was found dead around 7:40 am. Punachandar Rao added that Santhosh was not academically weak but had passed only four subjects in his first year. The transition from Telugu to English medium may have affected his academic comfort, and students suggested that limited friendships might have contributed to his emotional struggles. However, no direct evidence supports these speculations. Santhosh's brother, Sreenu, lodged a police complaint, expressing doubts about the role of the principal and physical education trainer. India bloc to corner govt on key issues in upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament
New Delhi, July 19 (UNI) The INDI Alliance today decided to corner the government, during the upcoming Monsoon session of the Parliament over several key issues, including the recent Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, US President's ceasefire and trade statement and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar. In a virtual meeting held here, representatives from 24 parties from the INDIA alliancecame together to discuss on pressing national and political issues. The Monsoon Session of Parliament will commence on July 21. Briefing the media after the meeting, senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said that the alliance had reached a consensus on eight major issues that will be prominently raised during the session: Tiwari said that the issues included the recent attack in Pahalgam, Operation Sindoor, US President Donald Trump's statement on ceasefire and trade, alleged voter suppression in Bihar under the guise of "SIR", India's foreign policy approach concerning Pakistan, China, and Gaza, the controversial delimitation issue and increasing "atrocities against Dalits, backward classes, Adivasis, women, and minorities". He further stated that the alliance plans to question the government on other critical matters, including the recent Ahmedabad plane crash. 'We are united in our commitment to raise these concerns in a democratic and constructive manner inside Parliament,' said Tiwari. 'The Modi government can no longer afford to ignore the national interest. We want the House to function smoothly, but we also demand clear answers to the questions we bring forth,' he said. 'Dalits refused booking of wedding halls in Tiruppur's Sivanmalai foothills'
TIRUPPUR: Wedding hall owners at Sivanmalai in Kangeyam of Tiruppur district are suspected of caste discrimination against Scheduled Castes. Officials from the district administration said an investigation into the matter is underway. It has been alleged Dalit people are finding it difficult to book wedding halls located in the foothills of Sivanmalai to hold auspicious events, including weddings. P Kalimuthu, district secretary of the Aathi Thamizhar Munnetra Kazhagam, said, "People from not only Tiruppur district but also from nearby districts come to the Murugan Temple at Sivanmalai. There is a belief among the public that if auspicious events, including marriages, are held at Sivanmalai, they will get the grace of Lord Murugan. But SC people are refused booking of private halls in the foothills of Sivanmalai." "Out of the 20 wedding halls two belong to the trusts of two specific castes. All other halls are private halls. The norms for halls state that all castes should be allowed. But these halls do not allow people from Scheduled Castes to hold auspicious events. The situation is similar in Kangeyam city. Hall owners fear people from other castes will not book their halls if they allow people from scheduled castes,," he added. "Scheduled Caste people are facing great difficulty in booking halls for auspicious days. Sometimes, they hold weddings in their village temples and host receptions and other events by setting up tents in their homes. Only a few socially minded people provide halls to SC people. The state government should conduct an investigation and take appropriate action in this regard," Kalimuthu further said.
