Prohibitory Orders In Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada After Pickup Driver's Murder Sparks Tensions
Abdul Raheem was allegedly hacked to death on Tuesday by a group of assailants while unloading sand from his vehicle near Ira Kodi.
Tensions remain high across parts of Dakshina Kannada district following the brutal murder of a 35-year-old pickup truck driver in Koltthamajalu. The killing ignited sharp communal reactions, leading authorities to impose prohibitory orders across multiple taluks to prevent further unrest.
Abdul Raheem, also known as Imtiyaz, was allegedly hacked to death on Tuesday by a group of assailants while unloading sand from his vehicle near Ira Kodi. Police said that another individual sustained injuries in the sword attack and is currently receiving hospital treatment. Abdul Raheem's death sparked widespread outrage, particularly on social media, where many have claimed it to be a retaliatory act for the recent murder of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty. Crowds gathered near Highland Hospital in Mangaluru on Tuesday evening before Abdul Raheem's body was moved for autopsy.
Prohibitory Orders Imposed
In response to the escalating situation, district authorities enforced Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarika Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), prohibiting large gatherings in Bantwal, Puttur, Belthangady, Sullia, and Kadaba taluks until 6 PM on May 30. A separate prohibitory order has also been issued for Mangaluru taluk, falling under the Mangaluru City Commissionerate jurisdiction.
Heavy police deployment was maintained in sensitive areas across Dakshina Kannada, with checkpoints established to monitor movement and prevent the spread of rumors.

In Muradnagar, Ganga Nahar of Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh, a camera was found in the changing room outside a temple, and its live feed was on Mahant Mukesh Goswami's mobile. Videos of women changing clothes were found on Mahant's mobile. FIR filed against the mahant, who has absconded.'advertisement India Today Fact Check, however, found that while a similar incident did occur in Ghaziabad last year, the viral clip is actually from West ProbeReverse-searching keyframes from the viral video led us to an article containing its screenshot, which stated that the video was from January 2024, when people stripped and beat up sadhus in West Bengal's Purulia district. Vivek Agnihotri Slams FIRs Against The Bengal Files: 'You Cannot Suppress Truth'
Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri faces legal action from West Bengal's Trinamool Congress over his film The Bengal Files. With just a month left for the release of The Bengal Files, filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has responded strongly to the legal action initiated against the film by members of West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress. The director has accused the state government of attempting to suppress his work, while vowing to move forward with his promotional plans undeterred. In a video message shared from the United States, where he is currently promoting the film, Agnihotri revealed that several First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed against him and his team across multiple locations. Despite a stay granted by the Calcutta High Court, he said that additional FIRs continue to be registered. 'I am in USA promoting The Bengal Files. I must tell you, it's one of the most defining, one of the most important films on Hindu genocide. It uncovers so many dark chapters of our history which some vested interests had covered up for a very long time. But while I am here, the ruling party of West Bengal and their members have been filing so many FIRs against us in different cities, in different thanas," Agnihotri stated. He explained that while he had initially chosen to remain silent and pursue legal remedies, the repeated legal challenges appear to be an attempt to derail the film's publicity campaign. 'I was quiet. I did not share this information with anyone because we were taking the legal course. I have great faith in Indian judiciary, especially Calcutta High Court and I have a good news to give you. That Calcutta High Court has given a stay on all these FIRs. But as the case was being heard in the High Court, at the same time, they filed more FIRs. I think this is their strategy. The ruling party wants to trap us with so many legal hassles, so many legal battles, so that we cannot focus on the promotion of the film," he added. Taking aim at the motives behind the FIRs, Agnihotri questioned whether the actions were intended to stifle dissent or hide inconvenient truths. 'This strategy has been deployed by them for a very, very long time. But you have to ask few questions. Why do they want to suppress our voice? Why they don't want this dark chapter of Indian history, of the past, and of the present of Murshidabad to come out in public domain? Are they against me? Are they against the film? Or are they against the truth?" he asked. The director also spoke about the difficulties faced during the production of the film, revealing that they were denied permission to shoot in Bengal and had to shift production to Mumbai. 'I have finished the film. It has taken a lot from us. We have put in whatever we had to make this very, very difficult film. We were not allowed to shoot in Bengal. We had to shoot the entire film in Bombay. Now, with our limited resources, we want this film to reach every citizen of India, especially the young people," he explained. He further speculated that the government's actions may be motivated by fear of the film's influence on young viewers. 'No wonder that all the Gen Z and the young people are flocking the theatres and they are discovering this hidden truth of Bengal. Is it what they are scared of? Is it why they want to suppress our voice so that the younger generation doesn't get to know about our history and do not get warned about the time to come, the future of Bengal? And I must tell you why they are attacking us, why they want to suppress our voice. Because they think they can demoralise us," said Agnihotri. The filmmaker concluded his message with a strong commitment to releasing the film's trailer in West Bengal. twitter embed code 'And I am going to release the trailer of this film in West Bengal. Nobody can silence me because nobody can silence the truth," he said. Sharing the video online, he captioned it: 'Important & Urgent: Multiple FIRs have been filed against me by the West Bengal govt for making #TheBengalFiles. The Hon'ble High Court has stayed them. Why do they want to silence us? Why are they so scared of the truth? I will not be silenced." The Bengal Files is written by Vivek Agnihotri and produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi. The film features Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, and Darshan Kumar, and forms part of Agnihotri's 'Files' trilogy, which includes The Kashmir Files and The Tashkent Files. The movie is scheduled for theatrical release on September 5, 2025. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
