Bangalore Political Action Committee works to better 7.5 km of Inner Ring Road
Plagued with traffic congestion, road safety hazards, and poor pedestrian infrastructure, the IRR corridor is a lifeline for commuters connecting Domlur, Ejipura, Koramangala, and Indiranagar, including to the high-footfall Indiranagar Metro station.
The project, initiated in June 2023, involved B.PAC, BBMP, BMTC, Bengaluru Traffic Police, and Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited.
Key highlights include the addition of nine MF5 buses on the Indiranagar-Koramangala route, increasing daily trips from 169 to 227. To improve walkability and safety, over 4,300 tonnes of debris, 129 tonnes of garbage, and 130 barricades were cleared. Rumble strips, zebra crossings, raised pedestrian crossings, and speed humps were installed at key crash hotspots.
Street lighting got a major boost with 45 new or repaired lights across dark spots. BBMP also approved pedestrian upgrades at Domlur flyover. Drainage improvements were proposed with kerb inlets every 5-7 metres, instead of 30 metre intervals, especially at flood-prone areas.
B.PAC Managing Trustee and Honorary CEO Revathy Ashok said, 'The report is a testament to what sustained, citizen-led collaboration with government agencies can achieve in a complex urban environment like Bengaluru.'
'This effort is not just about fixing one road — it's about proving that data, design, and dialogue can reshape public spaces to be safer, cleaner, and more accessible,' she added.
BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao said, 'IRR: Standstill to Active by B.PAC is a wonderful initiative and is much appreciated. We would love to partner with you and take up serious interventions. At least from my side, we can contribute enough funds to promote walkability initiatives. If you increase the footpaths, you will definitely increase the carrying capacity and it will reduce a lot of other issues and promote safety. This is something we are committed to.'

BENGALURU: In order to add aesthetics and also cut down traffic and pollution at junctions on Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the BBMP Chief Commissioner, Maheshwar Rao, has directed officials to develop an additional 75 locations under the 'Suraksha Project'. His direction came after an inspection on Friday between Kamakshipalya on Magadi Main Road and the Sumanahalli Electric Crematorium. As development work at the Sumanahalli junction is currently in progress under the Suraksha initiative, officials have been instructed to expedite its completion. 'Sumanahalli junction development includes pedestrian crossings, construction of islands, installation of bus bays, and other infrastructure improvements to facilitate smooth pedestrian movement. Ensure these works are completed at the earliest,' he directed the officials. He instructed officials to remove the grills from the footpaths and reinstall them elsewhere in a manner that does not obstruct pedestrian movement. Rao noted that the objective of the Suraksha 75 project is to create a safer and more efficient traffic environment by redesigning busy junctions and reducing congestion. Development works under this initiative are already being undertaken at the first set of 75 junctions. Officials have now been directed to prepare action plans for another 75 junctions. Noting that vehicles were parked beneath the Sumanahalli flyover, he adviced to transform that place into a citizen-friendly zone. He asked officials to develop a design model for the same.

By 2028, all 3.5 lakh houses in 110 villages to get water line: BWSSB
BENGALURU: Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) chairman Ram Prasat Manohar said that the board has given sanitary and water supply connections to one lakh of the 3.5 lakh houses in 110 new villages brought under BBMP limits in 2008. He told TNIE that delimitation of wards under Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will not impact BWSSB services in these villages. 'BWSSB has to provide water and sanitary connections to 3.5 lakh houses in 110 villages. By 2028, all 3.5 lakh houses will have sanitary and water connections,' he said. These villages will get safe drinking water under the Cauvery Water Supply Scheme. This project will address water scarcity in 110 villages. Around 1.7 million people will be benefitted by this scheme, a senior BWSSB engineer, Cauvery Stage V, said. The board has built a ground level reservoir (GLR) at Kudlu near Electronics City to supply water to the villages brought under Bommanahalli BBMP zone. Another such reservoir has been built at Jambu Savari Gudda in HSR Layout to supply water to the villages included in RR Nagar zone. The board has constructed a ground level reservoir at GKVK to provide water to the villages brought under Yelahanka zone. The board has built a reservoir and booster pumping station at B Narayanapura and another reservoir at OMBR Layout to supply water to the villages in Horamavu, Hennur, KR Puram and Kadugodi under Mahadevapura zone. On complaints of frequent disruption in water supply and contamination of water by residents of Babusa Palya, Prashanth Layout and Ramamurthy Nagar, the board officials blamed Bescom and telecom service providers for these issues. BWSSB pipelines have been damaged by these service providers.

BBMP chief orders plan for revamping 75 junctions across Bengaluru under Suraksha project
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner M. Maheswar Rao ordered officials to chalk out an action plan for developing 75 junctions across the city under the Suraksha project. This will be in addition to the 75 junctions whose works have already commenced. Mr. Rao, during the inspection of Sumanahalli junction on Friday, ordered officials to fix the issues with the footpath fencing along the junction as it was causing problems for pedestrians. He directed the officials to design a model to turn the Sumanahalli junction more citizen-friendly after noticing vehicles being parked beneath the flyover. Further, he ordered expediting work on the animal electric crematorium near Sumanahalli and directed the immediate commencement of the animal birth control centre. Mr. Rao directed the officials to clear the silt accumulation in the Vrishabhavathi Valley near the Sumanahalli junction.
