Nod for Hydrogen Valley Innovation Cluster project in Kerala
The Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT), which proposed the project, said the HVIC is one of only four projects selected nationally, and the only one led by a State government agency in south India.
MNRE has issued the administrative approval and sanction for the project. It has been cleared under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) on the basis of recommendations made by the Expert Panel Committee (EPC) formed by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, the Green Hydrogen Cell (GH2 Cell) of ANERT said.
A hydrogen valley is a geographical region where the production of hydrogen, its storage, distribution, and use are integrated through pilot and demonstration projects. The HVIC project is aimed at 'building a local hydrogen ecosystem by connecting supply and demand across sectors like transport, industry, and energy, while also fostering research, innovation, and skills,' the GH2 Cell, ANERT, said.
Key features of the HVIC project in Kerala include green hydrogen refuelling stations in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, pilot and demonstration projects in land and water transport and industrial sectors in addition to infrastructure such as electrolyser banks for green hydrogen production, hydrogen compression and storage.
Under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, Hydrogen Valleys serve as scalable, replicable hubs to accelerate India's clean hydrogen economy, ANERT said.
For Kerala's HVIC project estimated to cost ₹133.18 crore, MNRE has approved a Central Financial Assistance (CFA) of ₹53.40 crore under NGHM. It has sanctioned the first tranche of ₹21.36 crore (40%), to be released to the not-for-profit company formed by ANERT for the purpose.

The directive also mandates that all wind turbine data be stored within the country, prohibits real-time operational data transfers abroad, and requires operational control and research and development centres to be located within one year. The move aims at promoting domestic wind turbine manufacturing industry in the country, which is now at 20 GW in annual manufacturing capacity, as per government data. The ministry aims for 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity - including hydro and nuclear - by 2030, nearly double the current 235.6 GW. Exemptions apply to certain bid-out and near-term projects, while new models under exemption are capped at 800 MW over two years and must submit quarterly progress reports, the notification said. The move is likely to benefit domestic wind equipment makers like Suzlon Energy , Inox Wind and Adani Wind , and will likely be a setback for China's Envision Group, which has gained a stronghold in the Indian market.

Govt makes use of major wind turbine components from RLMM mandatory
TIL Creatives Representative Image New Delhi, The government has made the use of major wind turbine components from the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (Wind) mandatory, an official statement said on Thursday. The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) had earlier issued 'Procedure to apply for inclusion of a Wind Turbine Model in the Revised List of Models and Manufacturers of Wind Turbines (RLMM). The RLMM was a mechanism to ensure the quality and reliability of wind turbines installed in the country, for protecting the consumer interests while ensuring larger energy ministry said RLMM has been renamed as Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (Wind) -- ALMM (Wind) -- through an amendment."Further, it is now mandatory for the use of major wind turbine components, such as blade, tower, gearbox, generator and special bearings (Main, Pitch and Yaw Bearing) from the ALMM (wind turbine components) in the manufacturing of listed wind turbines," MNRE said. The ALMM (Wind Turbine Components) list will be issued by the ministry amendment also includes mandatorily locating Wind Turbine R&D Centre, Data Centre and/or Servers within India to strengthen the cybersecurity amendment will not be applicable to the already bid wind projects and captive/open access/C&I (commercial and industrial)/third party sale projects to be commissioned within 18 months from the date of issuance of the addition, new wind turbine manufacturers and/or new wind turbine models will be exempted from mandatory use of components listed in ALMM (wind turbine components) for a total capacity of 800 MW for a period of two years to promote the new technologies, having new innovation and performance efficiency not available indigenously. This step will boost the existing quality control mechanism, including the cybersecurity aspects, along with boosting domestic manufacturing in the wind sector.
