At last.
Disney's live-action Lilo & Stitch has cleared the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office, becoming the first Hollywood pic of 2025 to achieve the milestone and cementing its status as the year's top-grossing Western movie both globally and internationally, the studio announced Thursday.

Box Office: 'Superman' Saves the Day for DC Studios With $125M Domestic Opening, $220M Globally
It finished Wednesday with a domestic tally of $416.2 million and $584.8 million overseas for a worldwide haul of $1.001 billion.
China's Ne Za 2 is the 2025 record-holder overall, with more than $1.899 billion in ticket sales. The vast majority of that film's earnings, or $1.832 billion, are coming from the Chinese box office. (It has earned $20 million in North America.)
Lilo & Stitch, an adaptation of Walt Disney Animation Studios's popular 2002 animated film, has exceeded expectations all along the way since opening over Memorial Day, thanks to families and Gen Zers who grew up on the original title.
The milestone means Disney's film empire has released four billion-dollar films in the past 13 months alone. In addition to Lilo, produced by Rideback, and the Moana sequel, the roster includes 2024 summer tentpoles Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine ($1.328 billion), and Pixar's Inside Out 2 ($1.698 billion), not adjusted for inflation.
'We knew there was a lot of love for Lilo & Stitch with audiences around the world, yet we never take that for granted, and we're proud of how this new film has connected with people,' Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman said in a statement. 'I'm thankful to our filmmakers, our cast, and all on our Studio team who have made this film such a success, and we look forward to more adventures with these characters ahead.'
Domestically, Lilo & Stitch opened May 23 to a record-breaking $183 million over the four-day holiday, helping to fuel the biggest Memorial Day weekend in history alongside Tom Cruise-starrer Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, from Paramount.
Lilo & Stitch is one of only two films this year to surpass $400 million at the domestic box office, behind Warner Bros.' A Minecraft Movie, which has earned a stellar $955.1 million globally to date, but fell short of gaining membership to the billion-dollar club. It is still ahead of Lilo in North America with total ticket sales north of $423 million.
Overseas, Lilo & Stitch ranks as the top-grossing international Hollywood release of the year, and is the highest-grossing Disney live-action film of all time in Mexico. It is also the highest-grossing film of 2025 across a range of key international markets in Europe (France, Italy, Spain) and Latin America (Brazil), in addition to several smaller markets.
Lilo & Stitch is stiil playing in theaters worldwide, with a sequel already in development. The new live-action film's box office success has reignited global interest in the franchise, driving record viewership of the original animated classic and related content on Disney+, which have been viewed more than 640 million hours on the platform globally.
The all-audience crowd pleaser is the 58th film in history to cross the $1 billion mark globally. Among Disney's other live-action pics, 2019's The Lion King tops the list of best earners at $1.662 billion, not adjusted for inflation.

Check out this great neo-noir before it leaves Amazon Prime Video next week (July 2025)

When you're actually trying to figure out which titles you should prioritize on a given streaming service, it can feel almost impossible. Speaking for myself, I know that trying to pick a single thing to watch from among the vast array of titles available on services like Prime Video can feel almost impossible. What I often do, then, is pick something that won't be available for long. Prime Video has plenty of titles coming and going all the time, and if you're looking for one to watch this month, I'd start with To Live and Die in L.A. Here are three reasons you should check it out: Recommended Videos We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on HBO Max, and the best movies on Disney+. It's a dark, moody action movie Although To Live and Die in L.A. is in some ways a standard cop action movie of the 1980s, in others it's much stranger and more nihilistic than that description makes it sound. The film follows a rogue cop who, after losing his partner to a master counterfeiter, becomes hellbent on revenge. As he pushes the boundaries of his job, we find ourselves wondering whether he's gone way too far in the pursuit of justice. It's a nervy movie that you might walk away from hating both the hero and the villain, which remains one of the reasons why it's aged well. It's rarely available to stream This is a slightly unusual reason, but one of the best reasons to check out To Live and Die in L.A. is that the movie is actually usually pretty hard to watch on streaming. This is a rare window where the movie's available, and given that it's one of the definitive action movies of the 1980s, it's well worth your time. Given the uncertainty of licensing rights, you can never tell when a movie is going to pop up on streaming and when it might disappear for years at a time. While streaming isn't the only way to watch movies, it's often the most convenient, so take advantage of this convenience while you can. It features Willem Dafoe at his villainous best While the entire ensemble of To Live and Die in L.A. is doing excellent work, the movie's true standout performer is almost undoubtedly Willem Dafoe, who plays the master counterfeiter. Dafoe is not known for playing nice guys, but his performance as the villain at the center of this movie is particularly unsettling because he's so cold and calculating. Dafoe can be big and hammy, but here, he underplays almost every scene in a way that makes him seem deeply real and just as malevolent as you would want him to be. It's a great early turn from one of our best actors. You can watch To Live and Die in L.A. on Amazon Prime Video.

WandaVision Director Comments on Scarlet Witch's Potential MCU Return

WandaVision director Matt Shakman has finally addressed the possibility of the Scarlet Witch's potential return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For his work on the acclaimed Disney+ series, Shakman received two Emmy nominations including Outstanding Directing and Outstading Limited or Anthology Series. This comes after over three years since Elizabeth Olsen's fan-favorite character seemingly died at the end of Sam Raimi's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Since then, Marvel Studios has been silent about their future plans for the Scarlet Witch, leading fans to think that Wanda Maximoff might be really gone from the MCU. WandaVision director teases Scarlet Witch's potential return During a recent interview with ScreenRant, when asked if he believes that Olsen's Scarlet Witch is really dead, Shakman gave a hopeful response by revealing that 'Wanda's never gone.' This seemingly hints at the possibility of the complex character's return in future MCU projects. In addition, Shakman also shared the similarities between his experiences working on WandaVision and directing Marvel Studios' upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps. He explained that he was able to experiment in both projects' style and tone, which was something he loved as a filmmaker. 'They're both so joyful. I think of these two as the highlights of my directing career,' he revealed. 'Working on WandaVision was amazing. That world, the cast is incredible. Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Kathryn Hahn, (everybody). We had so much fun, and it was very specific, and we had a lot of rehearsal before we started, because I wanted everybody to understand the sitcom realities and tone and style that we were in.' Disney+ Has the Best Bundle in the Business Sign-up today for access to Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ Learn More Sign-ups support Superhero Hypevia affiliate commission Shakman continued, 'It was similar here (The Fantastic Four: First Steps). We had three weeks of rehearsal before we started shooting, because we were building a very specific world. We had to build a family that felt lived in, that felt real, and we had to build this '60s world that had a coherence to it in terms of aesthetics, but also style, tone, and how you approach the movie. So, both of them were stylistic and tonal experiments, which I love doing as a filmmaker. (They're) very different, but [there were] some lessons learned between the two.' CNN's Anderson Cooper shows up to support 'Late Show' host Stephen Colbert after cancellation

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper showed up to support CBS "Late Show" host Stephen Colbert on Monday night, appearing in a segment that took aim at the parent company of "60 Minutes" and President Donald Trump. CBS announced last week that it was canceling "The Late Show" and that Colbert's stint in late night will end in May 2026. While the network insisted the cancellation was "purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night," many skeptics believe the decision was politically motivated. On Monday, a bevy of celebrities, as well as fellow late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Jon Stewart and John Oliver, appeared on the "Late Show" to support their soon-to-be fallen colleague. Among the others on hand was Cooper, who is also a "60 Minutes" correspondent for CBS News. The celebrity-packed segment featured "Weird Al" Yankovic and Lin-Manuel Miranda performing Coldplay's "Viva la Vida" to "cheer people up" amid the news Colbert would soon be canceled. CBS cameras showed various audience members during the performance, and the famous spectators were embedded in the crowd. Cooper was shown looking at his phone as Bravo host Andy Cohen, who was seated beside him, went bananas when he noticed they were on air. Cohen then leaned over and kissed Cooper, resulting in a look of disbelief from the CNN anchor. The segment ended with a cartoon image of President Donald Trump embracing the Paramount logo, a spoof of the viral "kiss cam" incident that occurred last week when former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron was caught canoodling with another executive from the company at a Coldplay concert, both of whom are married to other people. Much like the Astronomer honcho, the cartoon Trump ducked in a panic when he realized he was on-screen. Colbert concluded the segment by taking more shots at Paramount, mocking CBS for chalking the looming cancellation of his show to a financial decision. Though "The Late Show" reportedly loses CBS $40 million a year. While it was a lighthearted segment, Cooper's involvement is noteworthy as it poked fun at both the corporate parent of CBS News, which controls "60 Minutes," and Trump, who Cooper is tasked with covering for CNN. According to IMDB, Cooper has appeared on Colbert's show 20 other times as a guest. CBS News and CNN did not immediately respond to requests for comment. There had been speculation about the future of the Paramount-owned late-night programs, which also include "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central, as its planned corporate merger with Skydance Media is expected to take place later this year pending approval from Trump's FCC. Paramount Global and CBS agreed earlier this month to settle Trump's $20 billion election interference lawsuit against the network for at least $16 million. Days before CBS announced the plug was pulled on the "Late Show," Colbert was outspoken against the settlement, calling it a "big fat bribe."
