
Salesforce Showcases AI-powered Digital Labour
Salesforce brought together more than 3,000 delegates for the event, including customers, partners, and associates, demonstrating the fast-growing interest and strong demand for digital labour solutions that can help drive efficiency and transformation for organisations across all sectors.
Keynote speakers included Salesforce's Marco Hernansanz, executive vice president & CEO Southern Europe, Middle East and Africa; Mohammed Alkhotani, senior vice president and general manager, Middle East; Maha Alaoui, head of solution engineering, MEA; Polly Summer, Chief Adoption Officer; and Olfa Kharrat, director of product management for AI and Agentforce. The speakers shared insights about the company's strategy and how its latest innovations in AI, data and CRM are helping customers transform.
Delegates gained insights into how organisations are transforming with Salesforce solutions including Agentforce, Data Cloud and Customer 360 to drive success on a unified, trusted platform. Keynotes and presentations, including by Salesforce's customers and partners, covered the role of AI in sectors such as retail, real estate, travel, automotive, and manufacturing. They also explored using Data Cloud to create a trusted foundation for Agentforce, how to make the leap from 'good to great' customer experience, and how organisations can grow their team's AI experience.
More than 15 customers from across the region participated in the event, demonstrating transformative use-cases that illustrate how they have transformed key aspects of their operations with Salesforce. National Bank of Kuwait revealed how it has leveraged data in Tableau to uncover insights, drive smarter decisions, and enhance business performance. In a session titled, 'Transforming Education with AI & Automation', Aldar Education, a leading education group in Abu Dhabi, discussed its partnership with Publicis Sapient to digitize student services, streamline admissions, and enhance parent engagement using AI-powered automation. Meanwhile, French energy group Engie, which has operations around the world including a regional HQ in Dubai, demonstrated how it used a tailored Salesforce Cloud solution to transform its renewable energy sales in Poland.
Other companies presenting at the event were: Al Tayer, MAF Retail LLC, Zulekha Hospital, Ducab, Raiffeisen Bank International AG, Red Sea Global, and Marhaba.
The potential of Agentforce and digital labour to transform operations featured prominently with sessions focused on private and public sector transformation, particularly the delivery of citizen services, and real estate, where Salesforce is helping customers optimise sales processes and enhance productivity to deliver a better experience for buyers and sales teams.
Mohammed Alkhotani said that AI and digital labour will play an increasing role in enabling organisations to raise efficiency while innovating, improving customer service, and supporting national visions. 'Organisations in the Middle East are keen to leverage AI to transform their operations and thrive amid tough competition,' Alkhotani said. 'Customers want to tap growth opportunities and support national visions – yet many are understandably perplexed by AI and how to deploy it effectively. Today's event offered the ideal opportunity to showcase the power of Agentforce to transform organisations with autonomous AI agents that complement human employees, while delivering new levels of efficiency and customer experience.'
With AI skills vital to the success of digital transformation within organisations, Salesforce recently partnered with Chalhoub, the Dubai-based luxury goods retailer and distributor, to create a training program to empower women at the company. The Chalhoub x Salesforce Women in Tech Leadership & Innovation Program was themed 'Women Driving Digital Innovation: AI, Data, and Cloud for the Future', and more than 60 participants graduated during Agentforce World Tour having completed a rigorous four-week course. The program focused on areas including technology and leadership; customer centricity; diversity, equity and inclusion; and future skills and career growth.
Representatives from Chalhoub and Salesforce delivered a keynote at Agentforce World Tour to spotlight the program's successes in empowering women to spearhead digital leadership.
Salesforce is well positioned to support transformation efforts in the UAE and the wider region after establishing a new office in the UAE in October 2024 and committing to invest $500m in Saudi Arabia earlier in the year.
Organisations are keen to deploy AI, but don't necessarily have all the know-how and tools to do so effectively. Nearly half of customer service teams, over two-fifths of salespeople, and a third of marketers say they've fully implemented AI to augment their work, yet 77% of business leaders cite nagging issues around trusted data and ethics that could grind their deployments to a halt, according to Salesforce's most recent Trends in AI for CRM report.
Meanwhile, organisations in the UAE increasingly recognise the need for AI-based solutions to liberate human employees from the repetitive, mundane tasks that often reduce productivity. With sales reps in the UAE spending an average of just 27% of the workweek connecting with customers, organisations see AI as a potential solution – 75% of sales teams in the UAE have either fully implemented AI or are experimenting with the technology, according to Salesforce's most recent State of Sales report. 26 July 2025 19:06 DUBAI (WAM)Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD&CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), welcomed a high-level delegation from Shell, led by Fakher Bader, Country Chair for Iraq and the delegation included Geraldine Wessing, Chief Political Analyst – Strategy Insights & Scenarios, and Hessa Abdulla, MENA Media meeting centred on Shell's latest report, The 2025 Energy Security Scenarios: Energy and Artificial Intelligence, which explores how AI could reshape global energy systems through three distinct pathways: Archipelagos, Horizon, and scenarios are vital tools for strategic decision-making, helping stakeholders anticipate future challenges, assess risks, and identify opportunities in a rapidly evolving energy landscape. Discussions also highlighted opportunities for synergy in advancing a circular and green Tayer shared DEWA's pioneering projects in clean energy, particularly the ongoing development of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world's largest single-site solar park based on the independent power producer (IPP) model. Its current capacity is 3,860 megawatts (MW), with a planned capacity of 7,260MW by 2030 (the original plan was 5,000 megawatts).The 1,800MW sixth phase of the solar park uses the latest bifacial solar photovoltaic technologies with single-axis tracking. This phase, developed under the IPP model, will provide clean energy for approximately 540,000 residences and reduce around 2.36 million tonnes of carbon emissions Tayer also highlighted the Al Shera'a building, DEWA's new headquarters, which will be the tallest and largest net-positive energy government building in the world. Al Shera'a is designed to achieve platinum certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and silver certification in the WELL Building Standard. The building will leverage advanced technologies, including the Internet of Things (IoT), big data analytics and AI, alongside modern renewable energy solutions that ensure outstanding also underlined DEWA's remarkable achievements in adopting AI technologies. DEWA has launched a strategic roadmap to become the world's first AI-native utility, integrating artificial intelligence across all core operations. This supports DEWA's global leadership, ranking first worldwide in 12 key performance indicators in its areas of work. In 2024, DEWA recorded the world's lowest electricity transmission and distribution network losses at 2%, compared to 6% to 7% in Europe and the USA. Water transmission and distribution losses were also the lowest globally, at 4.5%. Additionally, DEWA set a world record for the lowest customer minutes lost (CML), achieving 0.94 minutes per year, compared to an average of 15 minutes in the European Union. Fakher Bader affirmed Shell's commitment to supporting the UAE's clean energy transition.

China proposes global AI co-operation organisation
China proposed a new global artificial intelligence co-operation organisation amid a patchwork of regulations among countries, as Beijing's competition with the US over the critical technology heats up. Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Saturday called for an international framework to regulate AI as its governance is fragmented, he said at the opening of the annual World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai. 'Global AI governance is still fragmented. Countries have great differences, particularly in terms of areas such as regulatory concepts, institutional rules,' Mr Li said. 'We should strengthen co-ordination to form a global AI governance framework that has broad consensus as soon as possible.' China's proposal comes just days after US President Donald Trump unveiled a three-pillar strategy that his administration refers to as America's AI Action Plan, after much anticipation from US technology companies. Accelerating artificial intelligence innovation, building AI infrastructure in the US and leading in AI diplomacy are the strategy's three main planks. The plan to export US AI technologies, for example through international data centre initiatives, may help the US to gain influence as other countries seek to join the race to provide computational power for AI. Hypothetically, it could also give the US a competitive edge over China, which also aims to be a dominant AI player. Beijing and Washington are locked in a rivalry with AI shaping up as a key battleground between the world's two biggest economies. An 'exclusive game' During the three-day World Artificial Intelligence Conference on Saturday, Mr Li said that AI could become an 'exclusive game' for a few nations and companies. 'Currently, key resources and capabilities are concentrated in a few countries and a few enterprises. If we engage in technological monopoly, controls and restrictions, AI will become an exclusive game for a small number of countries and enterprises,' Mr Li said. Going forward, China will seek to propel AI development in the Global South, Mr Li said, according to a Bloomberg report. China said it is considering Shanghai as the headquarters of the proposed global AI co-operation centre. Ma Zhaoxu, China's Vice Foreign Minister, told a gathering of representatives from more than 30 countries, including Russia, South Africa, Qatar, South Korea and Germany, that China wanted the organisation to promote pragmatic co-operation in AI and was considering putting its headquarters in Shanghai, Reuters reported. China's AI and semi-conductor sectors are showing strong growth, despite US export controls, according to a June report by Jefferies, an investment banking and capital market firm based in New York. Huawei debuts AI computing system At the same conference on Saturday, China's Huawei Technologies showed off an AI computing system, as the technology giant aims to capture market share in the country's growing AI sector. The CloudMatrix 384 system made its first public debut at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference. Semiconductor research group SemiAnalysis in April called it "China's Answer to Nvidia GB200 NVL72", the US chipmaker's most advanced system-level product currently available in the market. "This solution competes directly with the GB200 NVL72, and in some metrics is more advanced than Nvidia's rack scale solution. The engineering advantage is at the system level, not just at the chip level, with innovation at the networking, optics, and software layers," SemiAnalysis said in its April report.

Speaking on the sidelines of the analysts' conference call for the first-half 2025 results, Al-Sager highlighted that profit before tax surged by 17.0% year-on-year, reaching KD 401.5 million in the first six months of the year. He explained that the new tax regime weighed on profitability, with the effective tax rate rising to 16.0% in the first half of 2025, up from 9.2% in the first half of 2024. Al-Sager added that the Bank's pre-tax profit was further supported by the release of provisions for credit and impairment losses amounting to KD 10 million, compared to a charge of KD 43 million in the six-month period ended June 30, 2024. 'Our returns remained robust, with Return on Average Assets reaching (ROAA) 1.52% and Return on Average Equity (ROAE) standing at 15.1% for the period', Al-Sager said. He explained that the Bank is confident in its ability to adapt and maintain its leadership in the local market, highlighting its readiness to navigate economic headwinds and emerge even stronger, supported by its resilience, continued investment in technology and innovation, and steadfast commitment to meeting the evolving needs of its customers. Dividend Distribution Policy Regarding the dividend distribution policy, Al-Sager stated that NBK's approach remains unchanged, maintaining a sustainable framework that strikes a balance between delivering attractive shareholder returns and prudently managing capital ratios. He added that the Bank continues to prioritize effective capital planning to ensure capital levels align with its future growth ambitions, an approach it has consistently upheld and will continue to follow going forward. Al-Sager stressed that the Bank remains committed to its approved dividend policy, noting that in light of the strong growth in its loan portfolio both locally and internationally, the Bank has opted to retain interim profits until year-end, with a focus on year-end final dividend distribution. This approach provides greater flexibility to capitalize on growth opportunities as they emerge throughout the year, in alignment with the Bank's strategic priorities. He pointed out that NBK's regional and international presence plays a vital role in mitigating risks, sustaining stable returns, and enhancing operational efficiency. Furthermore, he added that the Bank remains focused on leveraging cross-selling opportunities across its diverse geographical footprint. At the same time, its wealth management arm will continue to capitalize on deep expertise to deliver a comprehensive suite of portfolio management, advisory services, and investment solutions. Meanwhile, the Bank's Islamic banking services will further strengthen their local footprint while diversifying sources of profitability. Projects Market Momentum Al-Sager emphasized that following a strong year of project market activity in 2024, particularly in the second half of the year, the pace of activity moderated slightly during the first half of 2025. He noted that this moderation largely reflects a normalization from the elevated levels seen last year. Nonetheless, the outlook remains encouraging, supported by a pipeline of ongoing projects valued at KD 10 billion, signaling the government's continued commitment to advancing its development and reform agenda. Al-Sager affirmed the Bank's ongoing commitment to sustainability and the advancement of its sustainable finance agenda, highlighting the recent publication of its first Green Bond Allocation and Impact Report, as well as its inaugural TCFD Report. These disclosures underscore NBK's efforts to enhance transparency and accountability in its ESG and sustainable finance strategy. They also reflect the Bank's significant progress in integrating climate considerations across its operations, with a strong emphasis on portfolio diversification and climate risk management.
