Comrades Marathon crowns 2025 winners
The Nedbank Running Club athlete, who finished 14th at last year's Up Run, exorcised those painful memories to make it a hat-trick of victories outside People's Park in Durban.
Dijana now holds the 2022, 2023 and 2025 Down Run titles.
Last year's Comrades winner Piet Wiersma, who's earned the nickname 'The Flying Dutchman' finished in second while Nikolia Volkov finished in third place.
Meanwhile in the ladies race, Gerda Steyn won her fourth Comrades Marathon title.
Steyn, who represented South Africa at the Olympics last year, was all smiles as she crossed the finish line.
Russia's Alexandra Morozova finished second to win her sixth gold medal. Shelmisth Muriuki became the first Kenyan woman to finish on the Comrades podium placing third.
This year's Comrades Marathon, run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, is slightly longer than the 87.701km of the previous Down Run (2023), as the finish has been moved to outside People's Park at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
This is the 98th edition of the iconic ultra-distance marathon and the 49th Down Run overall.
A field of over 22 000 runners are hoping to finish this year's Comrades Marathon before the final 12-hour cut-off gun is fired.

The matches against Australia will be followed by successive Tests against the All Blacks in Auckland and Wellington (on 6 and 13 September) and Los Pumas in Durban and London (on 27 September and 4 October). 'We had an intense week of conditioning to get the players ready for what will undoubtedly be a challenging Rugby Championship campaign against some of the top teams in the world,' Erasmus added. 'So we are pleased with the strides made and the mind-shift the players made for what will be a completely different contest against Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina. 'We identified a few key areas of our game that we felt we needed to improve on after the Incoming Series, and we incorporated those areas into our training and conditioning blocks this week. 'The teams we will face in the next few months will ask different questions and pose different challenges, so it was important for the group to align on what to expect in the next few weeks, so this camp was vital in ensuring that we prepare adequately for what lies ahead.' Absolutely brilliant: AB de Villiers leads SA to World Championship of Legends title
Former Proteas captain AB de Villiers scored a stunning 120 not out off 60 balls to lead the South African 'champions' team to victory in the World Championship of Legends final in Birmingham, England, yesterday. De Villiers and his team beat the Pakistan champions team of Mohammed Hafeez by nine wickets with 19 balls remaining to lift the trophy at the tournament for the first time. The SA team's captain's score of 120 was his third century in four matches at the tournament. He ended as the competition's leading run scorer with 429 runs.
