Company director charged for fake SIRIM stickers on retreaded tyres
Cerico Retread Sdn Bhd and its director, Khoo Chai Kee, 65, denied the charges under the Trade Descriptions Act 2011.
The case involves 80 retreaded tyres of various brands and sizes found with unauthorised SIRIM MS 224:2005 logo stickers.
The offence reportedly occurred at the company's premises in Taman Perindustrian Bukit Palong Lukut, Port Dickson, on February 13.
Khoo, charged under Section 21(b) of the Act, risks a maximum fine of RM200,000 or three years' imprisonment if convicted.
The company, charged under Section 21(a), could face fines up to RM500,000.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Hakiim Izani requested RM20,000 bail and the surrender of Khoo's passport.
Defence lawyers Raswanti Nagaindren and Suwaathee Nakkeeran argued for lower bail due to Khoo's age.
The court set bail at RM8,000 and scheduled the next mention for August 28. – Bernama

Felda to consult PMD on RM100,000 allocation for land scheme villages
KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) will consult the Prime Minister's Department to determine the best approach for distributing the RM100,000 allocation to each village in its land schemes, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday. Its chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the move aims to ensure the funds are distributed efficiently and achieve the government's objectives. "We will refer to PMD to establish the appropriate criteria for recipients to ensure that the assistance is properly utilised and achieves the intended goals," he said. He said the allocation would be tailored to the needs of individual villages, some of which have Land Scheme Working Committees (JKTR), cooperatives, or youth councils. Ahmad Shabery said this to reporters after launching the Felda Robo and Novate 2025 programme, themed 'Young Innovators, Global Future,' at the Mega 3D Carnival (MK3D) 2025 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec). Also present was Felda director-general Datuk Dr Suzana Idayu Wati Osman. Yesterday, Anwar announced the RM100,000 allocation for each village under Felda to fund development projects decided by the local residents. This initiative aligns with the Madani government's focus on consultation and empowering the people. Regarding the delisting of FGV Holdings Bhd (FGV) from Bursa Malaysia, Ahmad Shabery said it should not be viewed negatively. He said delisting will allow for a restructuring of the company without being constrained by the regulations governing public companies, ultimately enabling Felda to fully own FGV and run welfare activities for settlers more effectively. Anwar had earlier confirmed that Felda would have control over FGV's direction once the delisting process is completed, which will begin on August 28.

Felda communities to boost economy with RM100k village allocation
KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) has unveiled plans to utilise the government's RM100,000 allocation per village to enhance socio-economic development across settler communities. Key initiatives include tourism projects, SME support, and infrastructure upgrades tailored to local needs. In Selangor, Hassan Mukmin Amat, a second-generation settler, proposed developing recreational attractions like an ATV park to boost tourism. 'Sungai Bernam is already popular among anglers, so we can capitalise on that,' he said. In Terengganu, Mat Zain Mat Uyob plans to purchase a tractor to reduce palm oil transportation costs. 'This will save RM60 per ton and increase settlers' income,' he explained. Kedah's Felda Laka Selatan will expand cabin accommodations due to high demand. Rodhi Md Rejab noted, 'Our cabins are fully booked weekly, thanks to our strategic location near schools and the Thai border.' Melaka aims to support local SMEs.
