Oklahoma AD Joe Castiglione, leading voice in college sports, to retire
Castiglione is entering his 28th year at the helm of the Sooners' athletic department. He plans to stay on as athletic director emeritus and help with special projects.

Under Castiglione's watch, Oklahoma has won 26 national championships (of the school's 45 total) and 117 conference championships. Castiglione oversaw the football program's return to glory when he hired former coach Bob Stoops before the 1999 season, and he led the school's move into the SEC.
Before Oklahoma, Castiglione spent five years as the athletic director at Missouri, and 32 of his former employees have gone on to become athletic directors or commissioners, according to ESPN.
Castiglione is also the only AD to serve on the selection committees for the College Football Playoff, men's basketball tournament and baseball tournament.
The move comes at a tenuous time for the Oklahoma football program. Brent Venables has posted two 6-7 records over three seasons as head coach, but the program has invested heavily to get back on track this fall. The school hired offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle from Washington State, added Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy as general manager and brought in top transfers in quarterback John Mateer (Washington State) and running back Jaydn Ott (Cal).
Castiglione's departure also comes at a changing time in college sports with the implementation of the House settlement. The OU Daily reported in May that the athletic department would lay off 5 percent of staff in preparation for revenue-sharing with athletes.

Weeks after a messy breakup with the Indiana Fever, WNBA veteran DeWanna Bonner has found her new landing spot. Bonner is reportedly expected to sign with the Phoenix Mercury, a team where she spent the first decade of her career, per ESPN. Bonner was one of the Fever's flashiest offseason signings, agreeing to a one-year, $200,000 deal with Indiana with the hopes of giving the team a veteran boost. She became the WNBA's third-time leading scorer at the beginning of the season, during the Fever's sold-out season opener. As a result, the forward reportedly wanted out of Indiana, and missed multiple weeks in June due to "personal reasons." Bonner was released by the Fever on June 25 after the team failed to find a trade partner. The veteran has only played in nine games this season, averaging 7.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists. She hasn't played since June 10. Now, Bonner will reportedly join a thriving Mercury team, which is currently tied for second in the league with a 12-6 record, winning seven of their last ten games. Bonner will join her fiancée and former Sun teammate Alyssa Thomas in Phoenix, and will also take the court alongside stars like Satou Sabally and Kahleah Copper.

The 2026 NFL Draft, at first glance, offers several enticing quarterback prospects, spanning different archetypes, journeys, and physical traits. No quarterback in this class has the athleticism of South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers. Texas' prodigal son, Arch Manning, has taken casual college football fans by storm. Clemson's Cade Klubnik, Indiana's Fernando Mendoza, and Penn State's Drew Allar should all make plays for Round 1, too. Among the Heisman hopefuls and potential first-round picks is LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who had the opportunity to search for greener pastures after a 9-4 season kept the Tigers out of the College Football Playoff. Instead, he stayed home in Baton Rouge, opting to conclude his collegiate career where it started. Advertisement Nussmeier's loyalty stands out in NIL era There's nothing wrong with a prospect pivoting to a bigger school for a better shot at the NFL or a player maximizing their earnings in a sport known to end careers in a flash. But there's something satisfying about continuity and finishing what one started. Nussmeier has a chance to do that with the Tigers. Part of the reason why Nussmeier may have been convinced to stay was the talent waiting for him at LSU. Draftable talents at receiver like Nic Anderson and Aaron Anderson complement a strong defense, opening the door for a playoff run this winter. Nussmeier recently spoke with Yahoo Sports about keeping his focus on the Tigers, despite the temptations waiting for him in the college football offseason. With an entire season until the NFL Draft, he'll have to play well to maintain his stock. Still, there's reason to believe in his upside. He's a big-game hunter with a strong enough arm to capitalize on his aggression, even with an undersized (6'1", 200 pounds) frame. LSU knows what it has at the sport's most important position, throwing (and completing) more passes than any team in the SEC a season ago. His 12 interceptions also led the conference, although the rest of his production profile, including 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns, helps offset those concerns. Continuity at quarterback is important, and with a top prospect under center, the Tigers are poised to find success in 2025.
