Family of tragic Kory McCrimmon to march through Glasgow in 'Parents Against Knives' demo
Hundreds are expected to march from Ibrox Stadium to Celtic Park today in a demonstration against knife crime.
The family of tragic Kory McCrimmon will join a 'Parents Against Knives' march in Glasgow today.
Hundreds are set to walk through the streets of the city from Ibrox Stadium to Celtic Park at 1pm.
Kory died after an attack involving a bladed weapon on May 31, 2024. He was found seriously injured in the city's Greenfield Park.
Ahead of the march his family vowed the 16-year-old's life 'will not be in vain' as they urged others to join the walk.
The march comes in the wake of the deaths of teenagers Amen Teklay and Kayden Moy in separate incidents in recent weeks. The tragedies have taken place amid the Record's Our Kids ... Our Future campaign, which was launched two years ago in response to a youth violence epidemic.
In a statement issued through Victim Support Scotland, Kory's family previously said: 'Kory McCrimmon's young life was a brushstroke in time but we his family wish for his death to make a difference: Kory's life will not be in vain.
'Our aim here is to continue highlighting the increase in deaths and danger by knife and violent crime. Our sons and daughters are more than statistics, they deserve better.
'Kory's parents are very clear: if we can prevent at least one more family going through this life-shattering agony, we have gone a long way in our mission, but let's go further.
'We walk in Kory's name but we stand for all those lives lost or maimed to knife violence: too much, too many. No more.
'Come join our walk and lend your hearts and voices to making our streets, our young people and our lives safer.'
Two boys aged 14 and 16 have appeared in court charged with murder following the death of 15-year-old Amen in the Maryhill area of Glasgow on March 5.

Kayden, 16, was found seriously injured on Irvine beach in North Ayrshire after police were called to the area at about 6.45pm on May 17.
A 14-year-old boy and two 17-year-old boys have appeared in court charged with murder following his death.
Kate Wallace, chief executive of Victim Support Scotland, said: 'Too many lives are being devastated by knife crime in Scotland.
'Behind every statistic, hundreds of lives are irreversibly impacted with tragic consequences for everyone involved; family, friends, siblings, school mates, and the wider communities in which we all live.
'We support the Parents Against Knives walk, organised entirely by the McCrimmon family in memory of their son Kory, which will undoubtedly help draw attention to this growing crisis.
'These are complex and sensitive situations which require a multi-agency response from the Scottish Government, victim support organisations, police, social work, youth work and others to work together to tackle knife crime and the devastation it causes. People across Scotland deserve to feel safe in their own communities.'

'Contracts for pals' crisis deepens at Scottish council as two senior figures step aside
South Ayrshire Council faces urgent calls for an inquiry over alleged misconduct by local chiefs following a Sunday Mail investigation. Two senior figures at a local authority have stepped aside amid a widening police probe into contracts for 'pals' allegations. South Ayrshire Council's conservative leader Martin Dowey resigned in April after the Sunday Mail published a recording in which he appeared to offer to help a company with lucrative work. We can reveal police are now assessing a further recording of the local authority's CEO Mike Newall, who also stepped aside after we received it. A businessman who claims he is owed more than £400,000 has also now written to the council demanding an inquiry into the scandal is launched immediately. David O'Neil's letter states: 'I am writing to formally raise serious allegations involving misconduct, abuse of position and potential fraud.' In the latest recording to emerge CEO Newall appears to tells a company boss he wants to hand him key work. Newall is heard stating he wants to 'weave a way through all the bureaucracy and procurement stuff so we can make you the preferred bidder so as you get the work'. He added: 'What I have to deal with is a head of legal services who is very risk averse. 'She says, 'Oh you can't do this and you can't do that.' It's can't, can't, can't.' Newall added: 'I want this to happen.' The audio was recorded at the council's HQ around a year ago and related to a project to redevelop a shopping centre in Ayr town centre. Newall, 63, who earns £135,000 a year, took a leave of absence from his role as CEO citing family reasons days after the Sunday Mail asked for the council to comment on the recording. Newall can also be heard telling the businessman: 'I'm being candid with you here…we have to be careful what we're saying. The leaked tape comes two months after the council's former Conservative leader, Martin Dowey, stood down amid another recording row revealed by the Sunday Mail. Dowey has been reported to police but has insisted no wrongdoing took place and vowed to clear his name. Police confirmed they had 'received additional correspondence which is being assessed.' In a tape, Dowey calls officers at his local authority 'f****** useless' and boasts: 'All the top ones I can sack.' And he appears to tell the businessman he can help him win work including a deal to demolish Ayr's Station Hotel, which was devastated by fire in 2023. In the recording of a meeting at the council's offices that year Dowey, a former police officer, states: 'You will be told the quotes are coming out. You put in your price, we will give you a guestimate of what is happening. 'If you are in the last three you will get the quote. You will get it. That's easy, that's not a problem. The problem arises if you are not in the final three, I can't do anything about that. It's up to us getting a proper price from you.' In the wake of our story deputy leader of South Ayrshire Council Bob Pollock was removed in May following an angry meeting. Provost Iain Campbell resigned after admitting he was 'totally disgusted' by the behaviour in the chamber. 'An investigation into the awarding of council contracts is already under way and some of these allegations form part of that investigation.'

The singer has been able to continue performing despite appearing in court this month over an alleged bottle attack against a man at a London nightclub in 2023. Brown has pleaded not guilty and was freed on conditional bail. Domestic abuse charity Glasgow Women's Aid accused the entertainment industry of repeatedly 'turning a blind eye' to violence against women. The group said: 'Kneecap were recently removed from a UK festival line-up because of political views. They were deemed too controversial and dropped from the bill. Yet artists accused of repeated violence against women continue to tour, headline and profit with little pushback. Male Allies Challenging Sexism (MACS), which has been running its #NoAbusersOnStage campaign since 2023, said: 'Chris Brown's booking at Hampden underlines how accepted male violence against women is in our society. "Within the music industry and the general public the vast majority of people won't care enough about Chris Brown being a violent abuser. Promoters and venues will be more interested in making money and his fans will care more about his music than his 'past actions'." Snell added: 'We're currently seeing a rise in sexism across society, driven by misogynistic influencers, celebrities and politicians in an increasingly vitriolic landscape… 'We need to be mindful of the message we send to young women about how they are valued in society when domestic abusers are celebrated, and of the message this sends to young men too.' Glasgow City Council said its role is to 'ensure events are safe and properly organised', adding: 'Any issues in relation to an act performing at an event are a matter for the promoter of the event.' Gangland enforcers Tamo Junto fire 'accept no imitation' warning as they vow to hound imposters
The gang, also known as TMJ, has claimed responsibility for a number of firebombings and other incidents across the country. The faceless crime group behind Scotland's raging gang war has fired a chilling final warning - saying they will "relentlessly" pursue the copycats passing themselves off as members of their crime syndicate. Tamo Junto has claimed responsibility over a number of incidents in recent months, as firebombings, shootings and knife attacks have taken place in and around Scotland's biggest cities. The group, also known as TMJ, serve as the footsoldiers for former Union Bears Capo-turned gang boss Ross "Miami" McGill, who holed up in a Dubai bolthole after leaving Scotland. And in a final video released today, the gang has warned the mystery figures behind a social media account bearing their name that they too will be targeted. The threats came in a 15-second video sent to the Daily Record. The clip features white text on a black background and ends with the TMJ logo against a camouflaged backdrop. The video brands the tmjdoesitbest TikTok account a "Fake Page". The account had posted a number of videos in recent days, naming a so-called rival and alleging attacks were imminent. But the group defiantly said: "As we have stated previously TMJ do not have any social media accounts. We've never been on TikTok, Instagram or any of these platforms and never will be. "Social media is for snitches as we've seen over the last few months from The Gremlins and their associates. Anyone we find creating any accounts under our name will be targeted.
