Let's embrace and celebrate our diversity, S'wak churches say in extending Wesak Day greetings
Its chairman Datuk Danald Jute said Malaysians could not afford to speak or think ill of their neighbours who seem to be different.
"As a multireligious, multiethnic and multicultural nation, we have no other option but to learn to appreciate, understand and accept each other," he said in his Wesak Day message on Monday (May 12).
Danald extended greetings on behalf of ACS to Buddhists celebrating Wesak Day, which commemorates the birth, enlightenment and death of Gautama Buddha.
He noted that the Buddhist community is known for a commitment to living good lives based on the teachings of the Buddha, which emphasise the importance of peace, harmony, compassion, kindness, good works and wisdom.
"We wish all our Buddhist friends a joyful and meaningful Wesak celebration and join them in working and praying for a more united, peaceful, harmonious and prosperous Malaysia," he said.

Malaysia, Singapore To Strengthen Ties In Govtech, Housing And Public Sector Reform
PUTRAJAYA, July 20 (Bernama) – Malaysia and Singapore are now exploring strategic cooperation in three main areas – GovTech, public housing and public sector reform – to strengthen public service delivery. Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said these were the main areas of collaboration identified during his three-day official working visit to Singapore beginning Friday (July 18). 'We want to learn from Singapore. Firstly, in regard to GovTech, as they have already implemented it, while we are in the process of launching our own. 'Secondly, their affordable housing through the Singapore Housing Board. And thirdly, we want to learn about reforms in the public service,' he said. He was speaking to reporters after launching the Sports Carnival of the Alumni Association of MRSM Malaysia (ANSARA Malaysia) here today. Shamsul Azri said Singapore welcomed the cooperation and exchange of best practices between the two countries to improve the quality of public service. 'Singapore welcomed our proposals… we also had sessions with them to discuss strategic cooperation between the Malaysian government and the Singaporean government,' he added. Earlier, in his speech, he urged Malaysians to adopt a healthy lifestyle through sports and good nutrition. Citing Singapore as an example, he said their average life expectancy is 84 years, compared to about 73 to 74 years in Malaysia.

Nga: Housing reform among key pillars of 13MP
KUALA LUMPUR: Housing reform will be one of the main pillars of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which will be tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Parliament on July 31. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the Madani government is committed to introducing comprehensive reforms aimed at improving housing affordability, accessibility, and sustainability for all Malaysians. "What I can share is that one of the main pillars of the 13MP is housing reform," he said, without revealing details on the reform. He said this after a walkabout in the city held in conjunction with the launch of Kuala Lumpur Architecture Week 2025 today. The 13MP, which sets the direction for the country's development from 2026 to 2030, is the first by the Madani government under Anwar's administration as the country's tenth prime minister. Meanwhile, when asked about Anwar's call for every new housing project to be comprehensively planned, complete with facilities such as schools, preschools and nurseries, Nga said; "It shows that the prime minister has always been committed and attentive in giving special attention to housing matters." Speaking at the Groundbreaking Ceremony and Launch of the SkyWorld Pearlmont Rumah Bakat Madani project in Penang yesterday, Anwar said the government will not approve any housing project that does not meet these basic needs. Nga added the Rumah Bakat Madani project in Penang, the largest affordable housing initiative to date, reflects the government's strong dedication to enhancing the wellbeing of the people and expanding access to home ownership. The project consists of 900-square-foot freehold condominiums, with each unit will come with modern features and access to shared facilities such as a swimming pool, gym, sports courts, multipurpose hall, surau, kindergarten, food stalls, children's playground, central park and a vertical school.

Innovative technology: Gobind (left) visiting a booth after launching the National AI Competition 2025 at Sunway University in Selangor. — Bernama PETALING JAYA: A National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap that outlines a five-year plan is expected to be launched by the third quarter this year, said Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo. According to Gobind, the national AI roadmap from 2026 to 2030 is expected to have an entire chapter on AI education, and his ministry will be speaking to different sectors after the announcement. 'The document is ready. 'However, we anticipate launching it in the third quarter of this year,' said Gobind after he launched the National AI Competition 2025 at Sunway University yesterday. Gobind also said it is important to spread awareness about AI education, as it could foster interest in technology adoption among students. 'So, we will look at what data can be digitised and used to strengthen our education system,' said Gobind, adding that the national AI roadmap will focus on all sectors, and different ministries will be involved for that purpose. 'Different ministries will deal with different sectors, such as health and transportation, among others,' he said. Gobind said his ministry will also get feedback from other ministries on the issues faced by the country's sectors. 'We will devise a plan to overcome these challenges. 'One of the key areas is to ensure that we build talent that is able to optimise the potential of technology as we move forward,' he said. At the same time, Gobind said Malaysians should look at the use of generative AI such as ChatGPT as a form of innovation that can better their lives. 'Like it or not, technology will continue developing, and in this journey, we will see more innovations that can better our lives,' he said. In 2021, the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry announced the National AI Roadmap 2021-2025, which outlined frameworks in agriculture, healthcare and education. Meanwhile, Gobind said over 2,500 students participated in the National AI Competition 2025, and more higher learning institutions should organise competitions as such. 'This is important because this is a platform where we can see how the technology is used and how it can benefit us,' said Gobind. 'This event gives important exposure to students, and I hope after this, every student will bring this message to their friends and family members that it is time to ensure that the nation is AI-ready.'
