CM slams police for poor investigations
Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed deep concern over the declining quality of police investigations across Karnataka, despite a drop in overall crime rates. Speaking at a high-level police review meeting held at the State Police Headquarters, the CM pulled up senior officers over lapses in key cases and demanded a course correction.
Referring to the recent mob lynching incident in Bengaluru that claimed 11 lives, Siddaramaiah said, 'In my 40 years of political life, I have never witnessed such a tragic case of mob violence. The CID and intelligence completely failed. Despite deaths being reported by 3:50 PM, senior officers failed to inform me accurately, claiming only one death even by 5:45 PM.'
The CM said he had no choice but to suspend top officials, though he admitted the decision saddened him. 'But when mistakes are made, action is inevitable,' he stated sternly.
In a strongly worded rebuke, Siddaramaiah questioned officers for their failure to act against hate speech and communal incitement, especially in the Dakshina Kannada region. 'Why are communal incidents happening only in Mangaluru and not elsewhere? Why are you not taking suo motu action against those spreading hatred?' he asked.
The CM instructed the police to identify and act against instigators, irrespective of their background. 'We cannot sit back and watch. The police must instill fear of the law in the minds of potential offenders,' he said, urging the force to create a law-abiding, citizen-friendly police environment.
Siddaramaiah also announced that the government would begin recruitment to fill vacant posts in the police department within the next two months. He emphasized the government's commitment to providing resources, funds, and infrastructure to the department.
"You are entrusted with delivering justice to both the powerful and powerless. The law is equal for all. We have pledged to uphold democracy and the Constitution — act accordingly,' he said.

CM rejects governor's claim of disrespect by education minister
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan rejected governor Rajendra Arlekar 's claim that general education minister V Sivankutty showed disrespect to him by staging a walkout from Raj Bhavan in the middle of an official function. The chief minister conveyed his opinion to the governor in a reply to the latter's letter, accusing Sivankutty of being disrespectful to him. In his letter sent to Raj Bhavan on Friday, Vijayan stated that the minister had no plans to show disrespect. Sivankutty behaved in a manner befitting a minister when he encountered non-constitutional flags and symbols at an official event. This was the duty of the minister, who is bound to show respect to the Constitution, said the chief minister. Vijayan also stated that only national symbols and flags should be used in official and ceremonial events organised at Raj Bhavan. This is the second time govt expressed disagreement with the governor regarding the use of Bharat Mata posters, generally used by RSS.

No Talk Of Change Of Chief Minister By High Command: Siddaramaiah's Son
Bengaluru: Amid mounting speculation over a potential leadership change in Karnataka, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has strongly dismissed the rumours, asserting that his father has the full backing of both the party high command and legislators. He, a Member of the Legislative Council, underlined that his father will complete his five-year term as Chief Minister. Junior Siddaramaiah's statement comes amid repeated comments from Congress MLAs and ministers hinting at a political churn towards the end of the year. Minister KN Rajanna's recent statement has fuelled most of the speculation. "Between 2013 and 2018, there was just one power centre. Now there are one, two, three, several power centres. When power centres increase, the issues also increase. Most people have an opinion that they are not seeing the Siddaramaiah of 2013. Let September pass, then we will talk about all this," said Mr Rajanna. Adding to the speculation, Congress MLA Pradeep Eshwar, speaking during a Kempegowda Jayanti event on Friday, offered glowing praise for DK Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah's Deputy, "As I end my speech, I want to remember DK Shivakumar, the leader whom I trust and dream of. I wish that his future is bright, and he takes one more step forward in his political career." Yathindra Siddaramaiah's remarks are the most definitive rebuttal yet from the Siddaramaiah camp. "Repeated statements are being made because there are certain factions that want to become CM, so they keep trying to spread rumours," he said. "But from the time the government was formed, Siddaramaiah has had the support of the high command and will continue to do so. The legislators also support Siddaramaiah. Therefore, he will continue for five years. The high command has never said they will change the CM or given any hints in this regard," he added. Asked about Mr Rajanna's comments, the Chief Minister's son said, "Only the minister can explain the context of his statement." He noted that such rumours have been circulating since the formation of the government. "From the beginning, there had been talk that Siddaramaiah would be removed within six months. Later, it was said he would be replaced after the MUDA case came to light - but nothing of the sort has happened," he said. As Karnataka continues to witness a tug-of-war between factions backing Siddaramaiah and those supporting DK Shivakumar, the political spotlight now turns to September, the month increasingly being seen as a possible turning point.

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while addressing the media on Saturday at Vajpayee Bhawan, the state BJP headquarters in Guwahati, launched a book titled 'Emergency Diaries', highlighting the resistance and struggle during the Emergency, particularly emphasizing the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "Today, we have launched the book Emergency Diaries, which is basically about the struggle and resistance movement during that time organised by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Mr Sarma said. He added that it is now time to erase the legacies of the Emergency period, comparing it with PM Modi's ongoing efforts to remove remnants of colonial rule from Indian systems. "In the same spirit, we must work to wipe out the legacies of the Emergency. Two important legacies from that time are the insertion of the words secularism and socialism into our Constitution," he said. "I believe the word secularism contradicts Sarva Dharma Samabhava, which is a truly Indian concept. Similarly, socialism does not reflect our economic philosophy, which has always been about Sarvodaya and Antyodaya," he said.
