Almost 19,000 households are still without power Sunday morning after overnight storms brought tornadoes to the western Twin Cities metro.
The Xcel Energy outage map is currently showing 18,980 households without power as of 10:10 a.m. Sunday, after severe storms brought dangerous winds, torrential rain and isolated tornadoes to the metro.
A tornado warning was issued in the western Twin Cities, including Minneapolis and the suburbs of Edina, Minnetonka and Bloomington, after an observed tornado was reported.
A few minutes after the alert was issued, the National Weather Service said the tornado was no longer observed, but noted that it could "very quickly produce another tornado and is not a storm to be messed with."
Video footage taken in Minnetonka showed what appeared to be rotation, while at 12:15 a.m. There were reports of an observed tornado in the Cologne area of Carver County, and weather officials said there were "indications of debris being lifted picked up by radar south of Waconia."
Reports are coming in of tree damage in the Waconia area following the storm.
The Winery at Sovereign Estate is among the local businesses to announce closures on Sunday – not due to storm damage, but due to power outages.
We're still awaiting further details on the number of confirmed tornadoes in Minnesota from the Sunday storm, which also brought widespread damaging winds and heavy rain, sparking flash flooding warnings in areas such as Wright County.

Hurricane center says tropical system could target Florida while Tropical Storm Barry forms near Mexico
While Tropical Storm Barry formed in Gulf waters off of Mexico on Sunday, the National Hurricane Center began forecasting the season's next potential tropical system could form and threaten Florida. In its 8 a.m. tropical outlook the NHC said an area of low pressure from a remnant frontal boundary could develop near the end of this week near either the southeastern U.S. Atlantic of Gulf coasts. Its bubble of potential development sweeps across all of Central Florida. 'Some gradual tropical or subtropical development could occur thereafter as it drifts slowly just off the U.S. coastline,' forecasters said. The NHC gave it a 20% chance for development in the next seven days. The National Weather Service in Melbourne said expect a high chance of rain no matter what forms around the Fourth of July and into that weekend. 'The evolution of this stalled boundary and any features that it may help produce remains very low confidence and bears watching. However, the overall forecast thinking remains the same, regardless: high coverage of showers and storms looks to continue each afternoon and evening into next weekend, as deep moisture lingers,' NWS forecasters said. If it were to develop into a named storm, it could become Tropical Storm Chantal. That's because the second named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season formed Sunday morning in the Bay of Campeche off of the Mexican coast. As of 11 a.m., the center of Barry was located about 90 miles east-southeast of Tuxpan and 165 miles southeast of Tampico, Mexico with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph moving northwest at 6 mph. Tropical-storm-force winds extend out 35 miles. A tropical storm warning remained in effect for the Gulf coast of Mexico from Boca de Catan southward to Tecolutla. 'On the forecast track, the storm is expected to make landfall and then move inland over eastern Mexico later today or tonight,' forecasters said. 'A little more intensification is forecast before the system reaches the coast of eastern Mexico. Rapid weakening is expected after the system moves inland.' The system is forecast to drop 3-6 inches with some areas getting up to 10 inches across the Mexican states of Veracruz, San Luis Potosi and Tamaulipas through Monday. 'This rainfall may produce life-threatening flooding and mudslides, especially in areas of steep terrain,' the NHC stated. The slow start of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season did not see the first named storm form last week. What would have been Tropical Storm Andrea remained out in the middle of the Atlantic, where it spun for less than a day with no threat to land. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, though, still forecasts this year 13 to 19 named storms this year, of which 6-10 will become hurricanes. Three to five of those are predicted to grow into major hurricanes of Category 3 strength or higher. Hurricane season runs through Nov. 30. _____

Severe thunderstorms hit Wisconsin, lead to Camp Randall evacuation
Thunderstorms on Sunday, June 29 led to storm warnings across the state and caused an outdoor concert in Madison to be temporarily evacuated. As of 8 p.m. Milwaukee County was experiencing over 7,000 power outages. Taylor Patterson, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Sullivan, said that quarter-size hail was reported in Shawano, WI. A flood advisory from the National Weather Service is in effect for portions of Milwaukee and Ozaukee counties until 11:15 p.m. on June 29. Patterson said that most flooding concerns were advisory, and that areas with one to two inches of rain may see ponding or pooling of water near drains. Meanwhile, a severe thunderstorm watch remained in effect until 9 p.m. in Fond du Lac, Dane, Green, Iowa, Lafayette and Dodge counties. The Wisconsin Badgers X account announced at 6:31 p.m. that Morgan Wallen's concert at Camp Randall was being evacuated due to severe weather. Half an hour later, the account posted that the evacuation was lifted and fans could return to their seats. Delta airlines cancelled almost 1,000 flights, largely due to the weather issues in Atlanta, according to View From the Wing. What are the numbers? FlightAware has Delta's June 28 cancellation figure at 581 flights. On June 27, 366 Delta flights were cancelled, according to that site, which noted that only 25 flights were cancelled on June 26, but more than 1,100 were delayed. According to FlightAware, Delta had only 59 cancelled flights on June 29, although 775 flights were delayed. "The storm resulted in hundreds of system cancellations across the system for Saturday. Delta expects additional delays and cancellations as teams work to safely reset aircraft and reposition flight crews," Delta wrote in a June 28 statement. "Teams across Delta are hard at work to take care of customers and recover our operation following a major weather event at our Atlanta hub June 27," Delta wrote. "Thunderstorms developed over the evening, bringing rain, lightning, hail and hazardous wind. The storm caused an evacuation and temporary power loss at the ATL air traffic control tower," Delta wrote. "The hail led to required inspections for over 100 aircraft, which our teams completed by Saturday morning. We expect continued disruption this weekend as we recover safely and as quickly as possible." View From the Wing described an internal Delta document posted on Bluesky by "aviation watchdog" @JonNYC. The document says that Delta will 'pay for accommodations, vouchers, rental car reimbursement,' and more for customers 'whose travel has been impacted by this event.' 'Thank you for your support as we recover our operation following a major weather event in ATL,' the document says. 'You should begin offering hotel, meal, and transportation vouchers immediately.
