Squid Game season 3 review: Darker and emotionally more impactful, Netflix show gets an imperfect but fitting finale

Squid Game season 3 review Cast: Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon, Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-shim, Jo Yu-ri, Lee David, and Roh Jae-won Creator: Hwang Dong-hyuk Rating: ★★★
The second season of Squid Game, Netflix's sensational show, had raised fears that the quality was dipping. Amid revelations that creator Hwang Dong-hyuk and Netflix had split the second season into two, there were fears of the quality being diluted. The third and final season both alleviates and reinforces those fears. Yes, the show isn't as good as that stupendous first act, but then that was a high bar to reach. On its own, Squid Game season 3 is a fitting end to a great indictment of capitalism, greed, and inequities; one that not only ties up loose ends but also sets up a potential franchise. Squid Game season 3 review: Lee Jung-jae is the backbone of the show.
In Squid Game season 3, a shattered Seong Gi-hun resigns to his fate after his failed coup at the games in season 2. But the games continue, under increased surveillance. And soon Gi-hun realises he must get out of his stupor if he is to survive the onslaught. Meanwhile, Detective Hwang Jun-ho is closing in on the island, while guard Kang No-eul is planning a daring escape. How it all comes to a close together forms a thrilling journey.
Squid Game season 3 moves at a faster pace, largely because of the shorter six-episode duration. A lot happens in a quick time, much of it outside the island. That keeps the viewer engaged, even as the goings-on in the games get a little dull. There are fewer games left, so makers have fewer chances to surprise the audience with their ingenuity. Yet, the shock value is there, with the plot twisting and turning every now and then.
Yet, there is a feeling that the show is not at its best. It lurches ahead on occasions and stutters in between. There is almost a phase where the narrative loses steam. The redemption comes from Gi-hun's arc, which brings the emotional heft of the story. His character's development, complemented by Lee Jung-jae's masterful acting, is the backbone of the show. He makes you feel for the players again and shows that the series is much more than just innovative new ways to show death. What works
This emotion is where Squid Game season 3 succeeds. It connects with the audience, even threatening to touch the vulgar VIPs who watch this carnage without as much of a second thought. The anti-capitalist undercurrent of the show has never been stronger than in season 3, and Hwang Dong-hyuk goes all out to indict modern consumerism and greed without any subtlety at all.
Squid Game season 3 is imperfect because it has its fair share of flaws. It gets predictable in the middle, resorts to using gore to shock, and even stretches the boundaries of suspension of disbelief every now and again. Yet, all this is offset by how it ties up all the plots and includes a sense of finality, while not saying goodbye. On top of it, the show retains its ability to surprise the audience, and what more do you want?

Jake Paul Dominates Chavez In Whitewash; Eyes Bigger Fights in Boxing Career

Jake Paul defeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a 10-round cruiserweight bout by unanimous decision. Paul aims for tougher opponents next. YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul made light work of former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on Saturday night, cruising to a unanimous decision win in their 10-round cruiserweight bout in California. Paul, 28, controlled the fight from the opening bell, using superior speed and power to overwhelm the 39-year-old Mexican veteran. The judges at ringside scored the fight 99-91, 98-92, and 97-93 — all in favor of Paul, who extended his professional record in what has become a headline-grabbing boxing career. The fight marked Paul's first outing since his controversial exhibition with 58-year-old Mike Tyson last November. While that bout drew mixed reviews, Paul's performance on Saturday was clinical and decisive. Outclassed from the Start Chavez Jr., son of Mexican boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez, struggled to offer any meaningful resistance. The former middleweight world champion failed to land a single punch in the opening round—a trend that continued throughout the fight. Despite entering the ring with 63 professional bouts under his belt, Chavez Jr. appeared sluggish and out of sync, unable to keep pace with Paul's tempo or land significant offense. By the final bell, the result was never in doubt. 'It was flawless," Paul said afterward on DAZN. 'I think I only got hit ten times. Really, he just survived, and I thought I did great, going 10 rounds against a former world champion who has never been stopped." Big Payday, Bigger Ambitions Although Paul received a guaranteed purse of around $300,000 for the bout, total earnings from pay-per-view revenue and sponsorship deals are expected to land in the $8–10 million range. By contrast, he reportedly earned around $40 million from his Tyson event, which streamed on Netflix. Following his win, Paul wasted no time in looking ahead to potential high-profile opponents. 'I want tougher fighters. I want to be world champion," Paul said. 'Zurdo looked slow as shit tonight. That'd be easy work, too. 'Badou Jack. I want everybody. Anthony Joshua, Gervonta (Davis). And Tommy (Fury), stop running." Paul emphasized that he has no plans to slow down and wants to stay active as he continues to build credibility in the boxing world. 'As soon as possible," he said when asked about his return. 'I'm staying active, I'm fighting everybody. You've already seen my face hella. Get used to seeing it more." Squid Game Season 3 ending wasn't the original plan, creator reveals shocking last-minute twist and teases more deadly games ahead

Squid Game is back with Season 3 on Netflix, and fans can't stop talking about it. Released on Friday, 27 June, the new season has received mixed reviews from both viewers and critics, especially when it comes to the ending. Now, the show's creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has revealed that the ending we saw wasn't what he had originally planned. The finale of Squid Game Season 3 brings both sadness and a small ray of hope. It completes the journey of Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), who makes the biggest sacrifice of all, he gives up his life so that Jun-hee and Myung-gi's newborn daughter can survive the deadly games. The baby becomes the symbolic 'last one standing.' Gi-hun's final act touches even the heart of In-ho, also known as The Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun). Known for being cold and cruel, The Front Man shows a rare moment of kindness. He collects the baby from the arena and ensures she receives the full prize money, 45.6 billion won, in honour of Gi-hun's to Variety, Hwang said, 'When I had a vague idea of what I wanted to do in Seasons 2 and 3, I had a different ending in mind. But while writing the characters and shaping Gi-hun's story, I realised this should not be the way it ends. The new ending made more sense emotionally and was better for his character.'Hwang added that in his original version, Gi-hun was supposed to make the opposite choice in the finale. 'It was a very drastic change from my first idea to what ended up being the final story,' he explained. A big part of Season 3 is the clash of ideas between Gi-hun and The Front Man. Gi-hun believes people are basically good and kind, while The Front Man has lost all hope in humanity, thinking people are selfish by nature. This conflict builds up to their final confrontation, the emotional high point of the of the most powerful scenes is when Gi-hun, tempted to kill others in their sleep to survive, sees a vision of Sae-byeok (played by HoYeon Jung), his ally from Season 1. She reminds him, 'You're not that kind of person.' These words bring him back to his said this moment was key. 'It had to be simple but strong. Sae-byeok's words were the best way to stop Gi-hun from crossing a line.'While this season ends Gi-hun's story, and Hwang's involvement with the series, at least for now, there are signs that Squid Game could continue. In the final scenes, a new Recruiter (played by Cate Blanchett) appears, hinting at a future game in Los said, 'Even though the story has closure, I think it leaves behind a sense of longing. So maybe, if the timing is right, there's a chance for more stories someday.' Squid Game Season 3 is now streaming on Netflix. Have you watched it yet? Share your thoughts with us.
