How could Sona BLW's JV with JNT unlock ₹1,670 crore TAM? Stock up 3%

Sona BLW Precision Forgings shares rose 3.4 per cent, logging an intraday high at ₹496.3 per share on BSE. At 12 PM, Sona BLW share price was trading 1.72 per cent higher at ₹258.8 per share on the BSE. In comparison, the BSE Sensex was up 0.36 per cent at 82,052.49.
The company's market capitalisation stood at ₹30,339.98 crore. The 52-week high of the stock was at ₹767.8 per share, and the 52-week low of the stock was at ₹379.8 per share.
Why were Sona BLW Precisions shares buzzing in trade?
The buying interest on the counter came after the company signed a binding term sheet with Jinnaite Machinery (JNT) to establish a joint venture (JV) company in China.
According to the filing, the JV will manufacture and supply driveline systems and components to automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in China and globally.
Sona Comstar will invest $12 million, while JNT will contribute $8 million in assets and business to the joint venture in the first phase. The JV is expected to commence operations in the second half of the current financial year, marking a significant milestone in Sona Comstar's expansion into the Chinese EV market.
The driveline manufacturing operations in China align with the company's strategy to expand its presence in Asian markets, particularly in India, China, Japan, and South Korea, while also working to increase its market share further in North America and Europe, according to Sona BLW
Domestic brokerage JM Financial Institutional Securities believes this JV will represent a significant growth opportunity for Sona BLW as the company would not have entered this venture without a strong anchor customer (mostly BYD).
Based on the brokerages estimates, the JV could unlock a total addressable market (TAM) of ₹1,670 crore (48 per cent of Sona's FY25 revenue), with potential upside if the JV onboards other global and domestic EV players like Tesla in China.
The brokerage has maintained a 'Buy' on the stock with a target of ₹630 per share.

Chinese Firm Unveils World's First Humanoid Robot Capable Of Changing Own Battery

A Chinese firm has launched a humanoid robot that can change its own battery, allowing it to run autonomously for 24 hours in seven days without human intervention. The world's first autonomous robot, Walker S2, has been developed by UBTECH Robotics. Watch the video here: The robot is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs around 95 pounds (43 kilograms), the company said in a video posted on YouTube. It has 20 joints or mechanisms that can move in different ways, allowing flexible movement. It is also compatible with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, which enables seamless connectivity. The robot uses a 48-volt lithium battery in a dual-battery system, allowing it to walk for two hours or stand for four hours before needing a recharge. The battery takes around 90 minutes to fully recharge. The video, posted by the robotics firm, showed the robot working in an industrial setting. The reports have also mentioned that Walker S2 is designed for use in settings like factories or public venues, where it can interact with customers or perform tasks autonomously. The company, established in March 2012, is one of the leading humanoid robots and smart service robots companies. It was officially listed on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on 29 December 2023. The company claims it has developed a full stack of humanoid robotic technologies independently to align its mission of "bringing intelligent robots into every family and making everyday life more convenient and intelligent". "We are also one of few companies in the world to accomplish mass production of small torque to large torque servo actuators. Our self-developed Walker is China's first commercialized biped life-sized humanoid robot," the company says.

Dalmia Bharat's profit surges nearly 3 times on improved pricing

Dalmia Bharat's consolidated net profit surged nearly three times on year in the June quarter to Rs 345 crore, helped by an improvement in net sales realisations, which offset the impact of lower sales volumes. ADVERTISEMENT The cement producer's sales volume fell nearly 6% on year to 7 million tonnes in the June quarter, which limited a growth in its consolidated revenue to 0.4% on year to Rs 3,636 crore. The topline grew despite a fall in sales volume as realisations improved by 6.6% on year to Rs 5,193 per tonne during the quarter. This also boosted the company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization to an all-time high of Rs 883 crore, while the EBITDA made on each tonne of cement surged 40% on year to Rs 1,261. The profitability was also boosted by lower costs of logistics and power and fuel costs, as compared to the previous year. 'Beginning of this year marks a recovery in cement realizations in our key markets, which has helped us deliver robust EBITDA growth, resulting in an EBITDA margin of 24.3%, which is an increase of 5.8% percentage points compared to last year,' Puneet Dalmia, managing director of the company was quoted in a release. The company currently has a capacity of 49.5 million tonne and is targeting a capacity of 75 million tonne by FY28. Earlier this year, the company announced fresh capital investments of Rs 6,800 crore for adding 12 million tonne of capacity across its South and West regions. ADVERTISEMENT 'Backed by a robust balance sheet, a disciplined capital allocation framework and healthy profitability outlook, we are steadily progressing towards our vision of becoming a PAN-India player,' chief financial officer Dharmender Tuteja company announced its earnings after market hours, and its shares closed at Rs 2,319.15 rupees on the BSE, up 2.5% from the previous close.
