Former Sri Lanka player Dassanayake earns second stint as USA coach
Dassanayake replaces Stuart Law in the top job, after the former Australia batter left the position towards the end of last year after leading the side in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup they co-hosted with the West Indies.
It is the second time Dassanayake has held the role as head coach with the USA, with the 54-year-old having previously enjoyed a three-year stint in charge from 2016-2019.
During that time, Dassanayake helped the USA win their ODI status and establish themselves as a growing nation within the cricketing landscape.
Dassanayake has since held head coaching jobs with Nepal and Canada and helped the latter to their first T20 World Cup appearance last year in the USA and the West Indies.
With the USA already qualified for next year's T20 World Cup in India, Dassanayake is looking forward to leading the side in another global tournament and building on the platform he helped establish last decade.
'It's an honour to return and lead the USA Men's National Team,' Dassanayake said, as quoted from the official website of the ICC.
'I'm proud of what we accomplished during my previous time here, and I see tremendous potential in this group to reach even greater heights,' he added.
'I look forward to working closely with the players and staff to continue building something meaningful for USA Cricket,' he noted.
Dassanayake played 11 Tests and 16 ODIs for Sri Lanka towards the end of last century, before moving to Canada and playing in their national side at the end of his playing career. (ANI)

The competition is being held from July 18 to 27, and Tanvi Sharma, along with junior world number one men's pair of Bhargava Ram Arigela and Viswa Tej Gibburu, are leading the team. India includes Nikhat Zareen, Lovlina Borgohain in its 20-member squad for World Boxing Championships 2025
New Delhi [India], July 25 (ANI): Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain and renowned Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen have been named in the 20-member Indian team for the World Boxing Championships 2025, which will be held in Liverpool, England, between September 4 and 14, according to After a week-long selection evaluation at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala, the team was chosen. This will be the inaugural World Boxing Championships, held by the newly formed World Boxing, the international governing body for the sport. It will see boxers from all over the globe compete for medals in 20 divisions: 10 weight classes for men and as many for women. The matches will follow the Olympic format. Changzhou [China], July 25 (ANI): Young Indian shuttler Unnati Hooda's campaign in the ongoing China Open came to an end with a defeat to world number four and former world champion Akane Yamaguchi in the quarterfinals on Friday, the Badminton Association of India (BAI) Media said in a release. During the final eight clash, Unnati went down to Akane by 16-21, 12-21. Playing in her very first BWF Super 1000 event, the young 17-year-old made headlines with her fearless performances. According to the release, she became only the fourth Indian women's singles shuttler to ever reach the quarterfinals of a BWF Super 1000 event. Unnati delivered a sensational performance to overcome two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and book her place in the women's singles quarterfinals on Thursday.
