PM Modi can't push Hindi in Tamil Nadu: DMK leader on language row
DMK MP Kanimozhi Somu launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Tamil Nadu for the Gangaikonda Cholapuram millenary celebrations. The DMK leader questioned the Prime Minister's "selective interest" in Tamil heritage while accusing him of playing political drama ahead of next year's Assembly polls.'PM Modi says he loves and respects Tamil. Then why impose the three-language policy on us?' she asked, referring to the controversial New Education Policy that proposes Hindi as a mandatory language alongside English and the regional tongue. 'He should retract the third-language policy. Let English remain the communicating language" she also took strong exception to PM Modi carrying Ganga water to the event, calling it inappropriate for a national leader. 'He represents the entire country. He can't get into religious things. He is the Prime Minister for everyone, not for one particular community,' she said. 'He can't follow all these superstitions.' On the Keezhadi archaeological findings, which many scholars believe provide evidence of an advanced, ancient Tamil civilisation, she accused the BJP-led Centre of deliberately downplaying the discovery. 'Keezhadi will turn the whole history around and establish that Tamil is the oldest language. Modi doesn't want this. He doesn't want the Southern states to flourish,' she a sharp remark aimed at the Prime Minister, Somu said, 'He is someone who makes a child sit on his lap but also pinches it. That's the kind of split personality we are seeing. You can't pretend to honour Tamil civilisation at Gangaikonda Cholapuram while rejecting Keezhadi findings.'The DMK MP also questioned the Prime Minister's visibility in Tamil Nadu. 'He only comes during elections. And now, when elections are around the corner, he is back here. But at other times, he's out of the country. Why is he touring abroad during election season? He has walked away to some other country.'When asked about the ongoing state tour by AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami, she dismissed it as politically inconsequential.'There is a big air of confusion between the AIADMK and BJP. Amit Shah says it's a coalition, and EPS says ADMK will come to power on its own. There's no synchronization", she noted, adding 'EPS is someone who became Chief Minister through the backdoor.'- EndsMust Watch

'Stay in the fight': Kamala Harris urges young voters as she skips in-person address, sends taped message
Kamala Harris made a rare political appearance but not in person, she sent a taped message for youth voters. All eyes were on the much-touted return of Kamala Harris to politics as she was named as a speaker at a youth voters event Friday in Washington, DC, but she spoke only for a few minutes and that too not in person. She sent a pre-recorded video address in which she urged the youth to "stay in the fight". Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Dem Rep Ro Khanna addressed the event in person. 'Keep building your political power, keep building community, keep building coalitions, keep challenging the status quo,' Kamala Harris said. 'And born out of our love for our country, keep fighting to build a country and a nation. That works for everyone. And I look forward to continuing in the fight alongside you. You take care.' 'Your generation has grown up on the front lines of so many crises — from COVID and the climate crisis to gun violence and mental health.' 'It is critically important that we have organizations such as this who understand that we must be intentional about lifting up our young leaders and encouraging your ambition,' she added calling the youth the greatest generation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If you have a mouse, play this game for 1 minute Navy Quest Undo Kamala Harris has been on a political hibernation as she left the White House after the election defeat. She said she will stay in the fight but her political future is not certain now as she did not announce whether she wants to contest in the California Governor election or whether she wants to prepare for the presidential election 2028. Her party is also reeling under a leadership crisis and many of her ex-aides believe that she is losing her chance in California every day as she drags her feet to make a political decision. Harris set an end-of-summer deadline for a decision on her political future and Democrats are also growing impatient over her California announcement. Insiders said she was exploring book and talk deals and is still weighing her political options.

US, Pakistan Discuss Iran, Terror, and Trade in First Foreign Minister-Level Meeting in Three Years
The meeting reflected a renewed warmth in US-Pakistan ties under the Trump administration, a shift particularly noticeable to New Delhi. New Delhi: US secretary of state Marco Rubio on July 25 welcomed Pakistan's 'willingness' to mediate with Iran and its commitment to maintaining 'regional stability' during a meeting with Pakistani deputy prime minister and foreign minister Ishaq Dar – the first foreign minister-level engagement between the two countries in three years. The meeting reflected a renewed warmth in US-Pakistan ties under the Trump administration, in contrast to the previous Biden years, when former president Biden did not directly engage with either Imran Khan or Shehbaz Sharif during their tenures as prime minister. The shift has been particularly noticeable to New Delhi, which has been uneasy over President Donald Trump's repeated claims that he pressured India and Pakistan into a ceasefire following four days of cross-border clashes by leveraging trade. India has maintained that the hostilities ended only after a direct military-to-military conversation between the two sides, with no third-party intervention. Pakistan, which has long sought to internationalise the Kashmir dispute, publicly supported Trump's version and even nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize. A week after the ceasefire, Pakistan army chief Asim Munir visited the White House for a lunch meeting with Trump. The discussion focused on Iran and came shortly after Israeli airstrikes on Iranian territory. According to the US State department readout, Rubio 'expressed appreciation for Pakistan's continued willingness to play a constructive role in mediating conversations with Iran and its commitment to preserving regional stability'. It also stated that the two ministers on Friday 'discussed prospects for deepening bilateral counterterrorism cooperation, including countering ISIS-K, and the upcoming U.S.-Pakistan Counterterrorism Dialogue in Islamabad this August'. Pakistan's opening with the Trump administration began in the early months of his second term, when its military quietly handed over an Islamic State (ISIS-K) militant to US authorities. Trump later referenced the handover in his first address to Congress, singling out Pakistan for praise, which was an early indication of the alignment that would follow. Rubio also raised the issue of 'mutually beneficial bilateral trade', language seen as reflecting the Trump administration's concern about trade deficits. He spoke about enhancing collaboration in the critical minerals and mining sectors, which has been a priority area for Trump amid China's tightening control of global supply chains. At an event hosted by the Atlantic Council, the visiting Pakistani minister said the United States and Pakistan were close to concluding a deal to extract min erals from Pakistan. He suggested that an agreement could be finalised in 'weeks and days, not months'. During an interaction at a think-tank Atlantic Council, he stated the US and Pakistan were close to concluding a deal for extracting minerals from Pakistan and an agreement could be finalised in 'weeks and days, not months.' In a post on X, he wrote the two sides had reaffirmed their 'commitment to the long-term Pakistan-US partnership, with renewed focus on economic, trade, investment, IT/AI, and CT cooperation'. He also thanked the United States for what he described as a constructive role in helping facilitate the recent ceasefire between Pakistan and India. According to a statement issued by the Pakistan embassy in Washington, as reported by Dawn, Dar told Rubio that the U.S. intervention had 'helped avert a potential nuclear confrontation and restored calm to a volatile region'.
