We're back with another installment of our flagship cocktail playlist,'Shuffle', this time bringing you a hefty selection of new regional releases across every kind of genre and style.
The playlist features Egyptian-Sudanese alt-pop shapeshifter Nxdia with 'More!', a provocative, hard-hitting tune that explores themes of desire and the intensity of new love through the compelling electric and punk feel that Nxdia is known for. Then, we have the trailblazing Italian-Palestinian artist TÄRA with 'Ya Helwe Ciao', a powerful rendition of the famous Italian resistance song, 'Bella Ciao'.
Next up on the list is the Egyptian singer Donia Wael with 'Shams W Amar', a sweet and melancholic tune co-produced by Hatembas and rap superstar Marwan Moussa. We also have Turkish-born artist INJI turning messy situationships into a fearless dance-pop banger, 'U WON'T'. The track is accompanied by a music video, shot on a shoestring budget, that oozes with DIY grit and raw emotional power.
The playlist also features rising Kuwait-based Lebanese-Syrian artist Rita Malek with an afro-inflected pop, 'Ya Dunyay', from her upcoming debut EP, along with fresh tunes from Hawas, Vinyl Mode, Sami Galbi and more.

Alexandria Mediterranean Countries Film Festival to honour Laila Eloui - Screens - Arts & Culture

The management of Alexandria Mediterranean Countries Film Festival revealed that the event's 41st edition (2-6 October) will honour Egyptian actress Laila Eloui. This honour comes in recognition of Eloui's long and distinguished artistic career—one of the most prominent in the history of Egyptian and Arab cinema. Born in 1962, Laila Eloui has left a significant mark through a wide range of roles—classic, social, romantic, and comedic—delivering performances that have become iconic in Egyptian cinematic memory. She has starred in nearly 100 films, sharing the screen with many of Egypt's most renowned actors, including Adel Imam, Ahmed Zaki, and Farid Shawky, and working under the direction of dozens of filmmakers, such as Youssef Chahine. Chahine cast her in Al-Masseer (Destiny, 1997), alongside Nour El-Sherif, Mahmoud Hemeida, and Khaled El Nabawy. The film competed for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Eloui also starred in his Iskendereya Kaman We Kaman (Alexandria Again and Forever, 1989), again appearing with El-Sherif and Hemeida. She has also worked with directors Mohamed Khan, Samir Seif, Atef El-Tayeb, Yousry Nasrallah, Ahmed Yehia, Raafat El-Mehy, Kawthar Younis, Ayten Amin, and many others across generations. A highly versatile actress, Eloui has also appeared in more than 60 television series and 20 theatre productions. She has served on the juries of several local and international film festivals and has received numerous honours from the cinema industry. Alexandria Mediterranean Countries Film Festival One of Egypt's oldest film festivals, the Alexandria Mediterranean Countries Film Festival is an annual event organized by the Egyptian Association for Film Writers and Critics, under the auspices of the Ministries of Culture, Information, and Tourism. It highlights the cultural wealth of the Mediterranean Basin. The 41st edition will take place from 2 to 6 October under the theme Cinema and Beauty, with broad participation from filmmakers across Egypt and the Mediterranean. Lotfy Labib Discharged from Hospital

Yara Sameh Veteran Egyptian actor Lotfy Labib was discharged from the hospital on Friday after his health improved. Father Boutros Daniel, director of the Catholic Centre for Cinema in Egypt, has shared an update on social media about the actor's health. "Thank God for the safety of the great and wonderful actor Lotfy Labib. We visited him at his home with the respectful actor Hamza El Eily," Father Daniel said. "He extends his thanks, appreciation and gratitude to his fans and loved ones for asking about him and praying for him." On July 13, Labib was admitted to the intensive care (ICU) after suffering a health scare. Born on August 18, 1947, Labib is an Egyptian stage, television, and film actor. The acclaimed actor has worked profusely, in many supporting but memorable roles, with over 200 film and television credits. Through many of his screen appearances, the veteran actor has performed admirably and has shown himself to be one of the strongest performers of his generation. On March 29, Labib announced his retirement from acting due to his health condition. "In my current health condition, if I get a role, I won't be able to play it because I prefer that my image remains as it was to the fans," he said. He made his final onscreen appearance in the 2024 film 'Ana W Ibn Khalti' ("Me and My Cousin"). Hanady Mehanna, Bayoumi Fouad, Sayed Ragab, Mimi Gamal, Sara Abdelrahman, Ali Loka, and Enaam Salousa round out the cast. Ahmed Saleh directed from a script by Doaa Abdel Wahab and Amr Abu Zeid.
