Auto OEMs to witness pressure in Q1 FY26E amid input cost surge and operational headwinds: Report

India Gazettea day ago
New Delhi [India], July 12 (ANI): India's auto original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are likely to witness margin pressures in Q1FY26E, impacted by higher raw material (RM) costs and operating deleverage, according to a report by HDFC Securities.
The report added that elevated prices of key inputs, particularly steel and platinum group metals, are expected to weigh on gross margins, while lower seasonal volumes may further strain EBITDA margins.
For two-wheeler (2W) OEMs, an adverse domestic product mix, weaker export contribution, and lower electric vehicle (EV) mix have added to the challenges.
The report added that minor pricing revisions are expected across two-vehicles (2W) and commercial vehicle (CV) players, triggered by the implementation of new regulations--OBD 2 norms from April 1, 2025 for 2Ws and AC cabin norms from June 8, 2025 for CVs.
The report added that auto ancillary companies are also under pressure, with subdued global demand and tariff uncertainty clouding long-term planning.
Tyre makers may get some relief from lower raw material prices, while some players could benefit from a drop in aluminium costs, the report added. However, export-focused firms face risks from rising ocean freight costs and potential disruptions. Delays in the return of migrant labourers could further impact operations, the report stated.
Adding to the sector's concerns is an imminent shortage of rare-earth magnets, essential for both EV and ICE vehicle components. With most global processing concentrated in China due to its radioactive and high-cost nature, alternatives like domestic production or sourcing from Japan remain long-term prospects.
In the near term, importing fully assembled components from China may be the only viable solution, though this would raise costs, reduce localisation, and potentially affect PLI eligibility, as per the report.(ANI)

Modi govt's plan B to counter China's arrogance revealed! Chinese engineers' exit won't affect iPhone 17 manufacturing in India because...

Representational Image The Indian government is actively monitoring the iPhone manufacturing in the country, and has expressed confidence that the exit of 300 Chinese engineers from Foxconn iPhone plants in India will not affect the production of Apple's flagship device, including the upcoming iPhone 17 series. Why Indian govt called it an 'opportunity'? Media reports citing government sources said the Centre is keeping a close eye on the matter, and is confident that Apple is capable of dealing with the situation. A senior official from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) said the matter was directly between Apple and Foxconn, and termed it as an 'opportunity'. 'I would look at it more as an opportunity. If the workers want to go back, it's between the company and the workers. They will have to make arrangements to ensure the work continues — production won't be impacted. We facilitated their visas'. The official noted that Apple has alternatives but the primary responsibility lies with the company (Apple) to ensure that the manufacturer doesn't impact production. What was the job of Chinese engineers who went back? According to reports, the 300 Chinese engineers who were recalled by Beijing, were responsible designing the factory, handling the assembly line and training employees. The Indian government said it was monitoring the production capacity of Foxconn, one of the few companies part of the Narendra Modi government's PLI scheme. Its must be noted that China is a global manufacturing and industrial powerhouses, and most of the equipment required to assemble mobile phones comes from there. These machines require specialized training to operate, which is usually imparted by Chinese experts who work for the manufacturer of these devices. How India plans to boost iPhone manufacturing? While a decade ago, iPhone manufacturing in India was practically negligible Apple began to assemble iPhones in the country from 2017 with newer models now being manufactured at Indian plants. Apple is strengthening its footprint in India as it proves to be a key market with its high population and rapidly growing economy. Foxconn operates iPhone manufacturing plants in India's southern states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana, and its estimated that iPhones worth $14 billion, were assembled in India in the 2024-25 fiscal year, which means that one out of seven iPhones sold across the world carries a 'Made in India' tag. The Union government has launched the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme which is expected to attract gadget making moguls other than Apple, to establish their presence in the country. Two flagship stores were launched by Apple in Mumbai and Delhi in 2023 and Apple indicated that they are now planning to open four more retail stores in Bengaluru, Pune, Delhi-NCR, and Mumbai.

FPIs continue to buy India stocks well into fourth month in July

New Delhi [India], July 13 (ANI): Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) continued to remain net buyers in Indian stock markets well into the fourth month of July. Latest data made available by National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) showed that FPIs had cumulatively bought domestic stocks worth Rs 3,839 crore in July so far. In April, May, and June, the FPIs had accumulated stocks worth Rs 4,223 crore, Rs 19,860 crore, and Rs 14,590 crore, respectively. FPIs had somewhat fueled the latest bull run in the stock market, after a sharp slump. The benchmark index Sensex is however quite below its all-time high of 85,978 points. The benchmark Sensex is now about 3,500 points below its all-time high. At one time, the Sensex had fallen about 13,000 points from its high. Indian stock markets outperformed global markets over the past few weeks, as volatility continued to reign in global markets over possible US reciprocal tariffs. As per the definition, Foreign Portfolio Investment involves an investor buying foreign financial assets. 'The first three months of this year, FPI inflows were negative, and this trend was reversed in the next three months,' said VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited, referring to FPI buying trends. 'For 2025, so far, inflows show a negative figure... This is due to the massive selling that happened in January and February. An important trend in FPI investment is that FPIs have been consistent buyers/investors in the primary market even when they have been selling through the exchanges,' Vijayakumar added. 'Since other markets are cheaper relative to India, FIIs may again sell and move money to cheaper markets as a short-term strategy. In H1 2025, the Indian market underperformed most markets, including the MSCI EM index.' In 2024, Sensex and Nifty accumulated a growth of about 9-10 per cent each. In 2023, Sensex and Nifty gained 16-17 per cent, on a cumulative basis. In 2022, they gained a mere 3 per cent each. (ANI)
