The Repair Shop's Chris Shaw was up against a particularly tough restoration challenge, confessing it posed a "big problem".
The book restoration expert found himself grappling with an old, moisture-damaged tome that turned out to be a more formidable task than anticipated.
In a snippet posted on the BBC show's official Instagram page, Chris offered viewers a peek into his meticulous process of mending the book, reports the Express.
While examining the pages that had fused together, he conceded: "The biggest problem is the damp, and how it's affected the structure of the binding and basically, it's delaminated absolutely everything."
Leafing through the volume, the specialist detailed: "So here, you've got three separate boards that have been glued together, and the damp has made them come apart."
(Image: BBC)
He elaborated: "I need to get some glue in here and give it a squash and leave to dry and this is quickly tricky because I'm having to push a brush down by holding the board upright.
"I'm hoping gravity will take the glue all the way down. It's very important that all these boards are stuck together to provide strength again."
Determined to salvage the piece using clamps, he described: "I very rarely, in bookbinding terms, use clamps for what I'm using now.
"You'd normally see Will using it, so it feels like a different trade suddenly, but it's necessary, and it's trying to get the pressure right."
The comment section quickly overflowed with heartfelt messages from admirers, commending the star for their meticulous restoration work.

One admirer commented: "Another brilliant restoration is always like learning." Another shared their fascination, saying, "Watching Chris bring a time-worn, battered book back to life is so entrancing."
They continued to express admiration: "His knowledge and skill are exceptional, and his reverence for books and his compassion for the owner are so touching."
A third added their praise: "Another brilliant restoration, BEAUTIFUL work once again. I enjoy and appreciate all you do! I am an avid book lover, also and always love learning new things."
Yet another fan highlighted the unseen effort: "Making this look so easy, and we have no idea at how much time and effort was put into the learning."
And one more chimed in with enthusiasm: "You are incredible! ! ! ! To restore such a book is just amazing! ! ! I love the program."
The Repair Shop is available for catch-up on BBC iPlayer.

BBC Homes Under the Hammer buyer makes £553k profit despite expert's concerns

BBC Homes Under the Hammer buyer makes £553k profit despite expert's concerns Homes Under the Hammer took a rather different course as an eye surgeon made a hefty profit despite a number of major home setbacks Jacqui Joseph, the presenter of Homes Under The Hammer, was visibly thrilled as she strolled through the streets of Shepherds Bush, London, to inspect a three-bedroom property. ‌ In the repeat episode aired on BBC One on Tuesday, August 5, Jacqui, who has a wealth of experience in property, shared with viewers her belief that the period-style house represented a "bargain" for any would-be purchaser, with the auction starting at £450,000. ‌ The host remarked: "That guide price seems pretty good especially for this part of London," yet expressed concern upon discovering issues inside the home. Her initial "worry" was the absence of double-glazing on any windows, noting to viewers: "Not good and not good for your EPC rating." Her concerns grew as she continued her tour, shocked to find that several ceilings were completely missing. ‌ Jacqui was struggling to find any qualities the home had to offer (Image: BBC) Channel 5 22 Kids and Counting star emotional as family face major change READ MORE: Jacqui exclaimed in astonishment: "What?" and then observed: "There's no ceiling there at all." She then turned her attention to the damp walls, where the plaster had separated from the brickwork, saying: "You can see the walls bubbling there. I've got a feeling it could be due to the guttering," reports MyLondon. The visit didn't improve, with Jacqui concluding to the cameras: "The more I see, the worse it gets." Viewers were then introduced to eye surgeon Tamina, who purchased the property at auction for a sum of £697,000. Tamina admitted to Jacqui that she hadn't undertaken a property renovation in thirty years and was eager to dive into the project with her friend Humar by her side. ‌ The Shepherds Bush home needed a complete refurb (Image: BBC) The duo were well aware they had a mammoth task ahead, as the entire property required a comprehensive refurbishment. The issue of damp also needed addressing, and Tamina had plans for a loft and side extension - both of which would come with a hefty price tag. Tamina set aside a modest budget of £150,000 for the renovations and anticipated the work would take between six to nine months. However, when the programme returned to check on Tamina's progress, the situation was quite different. ‌ Tamina and her friend Humar were hoping to transform the home (Image: BBC) After having to replace her team of builders four times, the project faced not only delays but significant cost overruns. Tamina revealed that she had exceeded her budget by an additional £100,000, bringing her total investment to £947,000. Although there had been stress, pressure and time constraints, Tamina found herself in a fortunate position as property values in the area had significantly increased since her initial investment. After completing the extensive renovations, an estate agent evaluated her new home and informed her that if she decided to sell, she could potentially make a staggering profit of £553,000 - music to her ears. Article continues below Despite the lucrative proposal, she opted to retain the Shepherds Bush townhouse in her property collection and lease it out. An estate agent estimated rental earnings of £4,000 to £4,500 monthly, yet Tamina had the final chuckle when she revealed receiving a superior bid. She affirmed: "I've managed to rent it out for £5,500 per month and I managed to rent it out before it even went to market." Homes Under the Hammer airs weekdays on BBC One, from 11:15am.

The Repair Shop on August 5, 2025 | BBC The Repair Shop is back for another episode on the BBC. It is due to start at 8pm on BBC One/ iPlayer and will be followed by The Great British Sewing Bee. The preview for the episode via the BBC reads: 'First through the barn doors is Ruth from Nottinghamshire, carrying a weather-worn concrete portrait of her late father David, a passionate beekeeper. This remarkable artwork was commissioned as a gift to her father by Ruth herself, and it's the delicate task of paintings conservator Lucia Scalisi to restore it to its former splendour. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'However, the challenge of recreating David's faded features – and particularly the swarm of bees that accompany him – proves unexpectedly tricky for Lucia, who's more used to working with canvas, and it takes a couple of false starts before she finally hits her artistic stride. 'Next, silversmith Brenton West meets Ian and his daughter Issy, who bring in a rare and precious silver statuette of a paratrooper. One of only 100 ever made, this beautiful object belonged to Ian's father John, a proud veteran of the parachute regiment, and was one of his most treasured possessions. 'But after surviving a dramatic shipwreck off the coast of Tenerife, the statuette has been left battered and tarnished, with its silver parachute strings a torn and tangled mess. Can Brenton bring the paratrooper back from the dead, restore the statuette's shine and honour a lifetime of service?' It continues: 'Pari from Ormskirk brings in a precious heirloom from her childhood in Iran – a traditional leather baby hammock of extraordinarily intricate design, in which her own brother was once swaddled. Leather expert Suzie Fletcher has the mammoth task of reconstructing its missing loops and reinstating the decorative stitching, with only a hand-drawn diagram left by Pari's late mother to go on. Can she revive this much-loved link to Pari's past and to the Iranian in-laws who welcomed her English mother into their hearts? Now the proud possession of Trevor's fellow Hull musician Lindsey, the case and its fittings are covered in rust and barely functional. 'It's down to Dom to restore it in time for its next gig – a slot at Glastonbury – and create a new chapter in rock history.' Who are the experts on The Repair Shop?' Strictly Come Dancing pro warns celeb 'don't ever do it' ahead of line-up announcement

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A Strictly Come Dancing pro playfully warned Emma Willis not to appear on the BBC hit competition after her unique dance move proved not to be a hit. During Monday's instalment of This Morning, Emma Willis and Joel Dommett stepped up to the plate to present while Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard took a break to enjoy their summer break. The duo presented the day's top stories and welcomed several guests, including former Strictly pros James Jordan, Brendan Cole, Pasha Kovalev, and Ian Waite. The professional dancers appeared on the ITV hit daytime show to promote their forthcoming live tour, The Return of the Legends, a move away from the BBC show. Just moments before they got into the interview, Emma was keen on sharing her passion for Strictly and wasted no time sharing her unique dance move. (Image: ITV) The TV presenter revealed: 'I'm a bit of a sofa dancer.' Everyone looked confused as she asked, 'Have you ever heard of one of them?' She explained: 'I love Strictly and I'm a massive fan.' While demonstrating the move, she shuffled from side to side on the sofa and continued: 'I sit there and watch it and do this on the sofa while watching them dance, and my toes are pointing.' She went on:' And before I know it, everyone is looking at me, thinking 'what are you doing?'" Before she could finish her sentence, James, who appeared as a professional on Strictly from 2006 to 2013, jumped in and joked: 'If you do it like that, don't ever do Strictly.' Everyone burst out laughing as Brendon also joked, 'I had a couple of partners like that.' (Image: ITV) It comes as Strictly Come Dancing fans patiently wait to find out which stars will appear on the dance floor for the new series. With the launch fast approaching, the BBC is keeping the line-up firmly under wraps. "More details regarding the upcoming series, including the celebrity contestants taking part, will be announced in due course," the BBC has said of this year's Strictly stars, adding that we can expect to see "another spectacular series" when it kicks off in a few weeks. However, that hasn't stopped viewers from sharing their predictions. If the rumoured line-up is anything to go by, fans are in for one of the best series yet. This year's names heavily tipped to take to the dancefloor include winners of huge shows such as Love Island star Dani Dyer, as well as Olympic legend Sir Mo Farah. This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX
