Colorado football Top 25 players: cornerback Teon Parks
Colorado lost its superstar, Travis Hunter, to the NFL, leaving a gaping hole at cornerback. DJ McKinney is primed to hold down one of the outsider corner positions, but what about the opposite side of the field? The answer could be several players, but Illinois State transfer Teon Parks could be considered the top option. Parks is coming off a breakout season with the Red Birds and seems ready to make that jump to the Football Bowl Subdivision level. Advertisement Since Deion Sanders took over as head coach, Colorado has never had a shortage of talented cornerbacks, but they need at least one to step into a significant role in 2025. Parks, as one of the top FCS cornerbacks in the transfer portal, can be a key contributor for the Buffs this season. Top 25 player profiles: No. 25, No. 24 2024 in review Parks was one of the top cornerbacks in the FCS last season and Illinois State's top graded defensive player according to Pro Football Focus. Parks finished the year with 38 tackles, one forced fumble, one interception and an impressive 11 pass breakups. He proved himself as a solid all-around cornerback and at 6-foot-1, the perfect size Colorado is looking for at corner. Advertisement Biggest question in 2025 Parks showed last season that he has the talent to be a top-end coverage corner, but as is the case with most transfers making the jump to the FBS level, can he produce similar numbers against better competition? Based on his grades from Pro Football Focus, the underlying numbers suggest his production is sustainable. 2025 will be a success if... He will be given a shot to win the starting cornerback job opposite DJ McKinney, and I think that should be considered a win for the former FCS standout. It is hard to predict the exact statistical output from a corner, but he has a nose for the football, and Parks should come up with a handful of pass breakups and around 30 tackles if he wins the starting job. Man Leaves Behind 109-Page List of Thousands of Books He Read After His Death at 92
Dan Pelzer read more than 5,000 books throughout the course of his life, including one classic he called "pure torture" One man left his loved ones a very special memento of his time on Earth. Dan Pelzer, who died on July 1 at the age of 92, left his friends and family a 109-page handwritten list of all the books he's read since 1962. Though Pelzer's family considered distributing the list at his funeral, they realized it was far too long to share in that way. So instead, they scanned the list and created a website sharing his reads called, What Dan Read. In Pelzer's obituary, his family shared that his love of reading and libraries first began in 1962, when he was serving as a volunteer in the Peace Corps in Nepal. ADVERTISEMENT 'After discovering a library of about 150 paperbacks, he started documenting every book he read,' the obituary reads. 'Over the next six decades, he read more than 5,000 books.' An excerpt of Dan Pelzer's lengthy list of reads as shown on the site 'What Dan Read.' But despite being incredibly well-read, Pelzer's family shared that the grandfather's reading tastes align with 'his unpretentious nature.' 'While Dan conquered all the classics and read every volume to the end, he much preferred John Grisham to James Joyce, calling Ulysses 'pure torture,' ' the obituary reads. In a post shared on the Columbus Metropolitan Library's Facebook page, Pelzer's daughter, Marci, wrote, 'ALL of his books were Columbus Metropolitan Library books. Nobody loved the library more than Dan.' 'When we were little, he took us to the downtown library every Saturday morning and enrolled us in every summer reading program,' Marci shared with the library. 'He was a regular at the Livingston and then Whitehall branches until he could no longer read. I'm sure he would be among your highest circulation and longest term borrowers.' Egan-Ryan Funeral Home Dan Pelzer Pelzer was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary Lou Pelzer, who died in 2024. Dan and Mary Lou are survived by their children, Marci Pelzer and John Pelzer, and their three grandchildren, Sarah, Lauren and Owen Pelzer. In Dan's obituary, the family asked that in place of flowers, donations be made to Kinship Community Food Center, adding, 'You could also honor Dan by reading 'a real page turner.' Jets make major locker room upgrade after poor NFLPA report card grade
New York Jets players reported for training camp on Tuesday and discovered a very different looking locker room at their facility in Florham Park, New Jersey. The team made significant upgrades to its facilities, which includes 92 customized lockers, a sauna that replaces an under-used steam room, a larger 3D logo on the ceiling of the locker room, and a barbershop. According to the Jets, the new lockers "are equipped with electronically controlled video screens and three separate fans for shoulder pads, helmets and cleats that will dry the equipment. The forced air ventilation will reduce moisture and lessen the risks of staph infections and MRSA." Advertisement The upgrades were completed under a tight deadline of the five weeks between June's mandatory minicamp and this week's opening of training camp. Jets respond to poor NFLPA poll grade The timing of the facilities upgrades comes months after the team was ranked 29th in the 2025 NFLPA report card. Of the 11 categories, the Jets received grades of "C" or worse in eight of them, including Locker Room (D+), Training Room (C) and Ownership (F). Jets players expressed that the problem areas they brought up in the 2024 survey were not addressed and that ownership decided to make "conditions worse" as a response. 'We take pride in having a first-class environment for the players,' Jets' senior vice president of security and facility operations Robert Mastroddi said via the team's website. 'These upgrades will certainly provide more comfort, but they also will help with wellness, efficiency and ultimately performance. There is a commitment to winning and that's where this all derived from.' Owner Woody Johnson called the grades "totally bogus" during the NFL's annual league meetings in March. He wasn't a fan of how the data was collected from 1,695 players who participated, as it wasn't noted how many from each team submitted responses. Advertisement The locker room is just one of many changes the franchise has undergone this offseason. There's new leadership in general manager Darren Dougey and head coach Aaron Glenn, along with a fresh face at starting quarterback in Justin Fields, who replaces Aaron Rodgers. Changes have been made and it's time for the on-field product to improve as the Jets look to snap the NFL's longest active postseason drought, which currently stands at 14 seasons.
