'San Pedro Prowler' targeting Brits' homes on Costa del Sol as victims sleep: Terrifying video shows masked burglar stalking through properties

Daily Mail2 days ago

British expats in Spain have been warned to beef up their security systems after falling prey to a 'terrifying' burglar who remains at large.
Chilling footage shows the moment a man in a mask and a grey hoodie breaks into a series of villas between San Pedro de Alcantara in Marbella and Benahavis, on the Costa del Sol.
The brazen thief, dubbed the San Pedro Prowler, is seen picking locks with a sharp implement, which locals said he could use as 'a weapon if he needs it to be'.
The menacing figure then calmly walks off with his hands filled with goods, including luxury handbags and jewellery.
Among the recent stolen items include €10,000 in cash and a €30,000 watch.
The robber appears to be wearing no shoes and just have socks on during his raids, seemingly to avoid alerting anyone inside the house to his presence.
Neighbourhoods he has targeted include Guadalmina, and La Quinta, in upmarket Benahavis.
The evidence has been collected by Martin Brown, originally from Scotland, who is well connected to the expat community as he runs a property management company.
He told the Spanish Eye: 'I'm being sent a lot of images with what appears to be the same guy sporting a grey hoodie and a hanging mask.
'In several cases the victims were in the villa. He enters knowing there are cameras, knowing there are alarms... and knowing people are inside.
'He has no interest in TVs or such, just targets bags and watches from what we know.'
Martin said that this week in San Pedro he stole €3,000 in cash and a luxury watch that was a family heirloom.
He said: 'He seems to be able to open patio doors very easily, prising them up from the bottom. He can be in very quickly.
'In the case of a recent La Quinta robbery, the British couple were inside.
'He had been inside the house at around 6am and stolen a watch from the bedroom while the victim was asleep.'
When Martin called the Policia Nacional, they told him that 'this is a job for the Guardia Civil.'
When he called the Guardia Civil, they said he must call the Policia Nacional.
The Guardia Civil polices more rural areas and smaller municipalities in Spain whereas the Policia Nacional is an armed civil force which deals with more serious crime.
Martin said he ended up losing his temper over the confusion and told the police to be at the victim's house in the next 20 minutes.
'Two coppers did turn up and they were pleasant, but that is probably the first time I have had the cops turn up after a robbery,' he said.
'In a recent San Pedro robbery, they rang the police, who asked if the robber was still in the house, when they said 'no', they said just go to the police station in the morning.
'And this robber had just been inside their house, in their bedrooms… so that's the attitude of the police.'
Martin advised any homeowner on the Costa del Sol to get centre locks on patio doors and install high-quality perimeter alarms, and to 'get a big dog.'
Another expat living in Benahavis said that when her area was targeted, thieves 'always got in through the patio or terrace doors.'
She advised that residents fit bolts 'that vertically go up and down into the frame so it's no longer possible to lift the patio doors from underneath.'

A source said: 'The package was really scary and she was terrified to receive it. 'It was delivered by the postman, but had no postage stamp on it. 'Gemma was worried as it contained rat poison, especially as she has animals at her home.' Gemma, who lives with businessman fiancé Rami Hawash, has since beefed up security with 24-hour guard dog patrols. The source added she has passed on details of the latest incident to cops, who she had been already in contact with over the previous hate letter. The Spanish resort where Brits 'can't stop cheating' revealed as tourist hotspot is nicknamed 'marriage destroyer'

According to new research, couples should be wary of one Spanish resort which has been dubbed the 'marriage killer' as people are more likely to cheat when they holiday there. A survey carried out by affairs website IllicitEncounters revealed this area is Magaluf. While the town has previously been known for its affordable pints and sun-soaked beaches, the recent research has labelled it the top destination for Brits looking to cheat. For the survey, more than 2,000 users of the site were polled, and asked where there were most likely to travel to if they wanted to be unfaithful. The answer that came top of the list was Magaluf. As a result, IllicitEncounters described the destination as the 'marriage destroyer' of Europe. Jessica Leoni, spokesperson for IllicitEncounters, said: 'Magaluf has been famed for its booze-fuelled breaks for decades, and its popularity with stag and hen-dos is another reason it is still considered a mecca for cheating. Leoni added why she believes the area makes people more likely to be unfaithful. She described the trinity of a sense of freedom, heat, and alcohol all combining to create a holiday romance (or something rather more tawdry). And it's not the case that all cheaters leave their infidelity in Magaluf. According to the majority of those polled (87 per cent) they kept in touch with their affair partner once returning home. When it comes to the cheating capital of the UK, some may be surprised to learn where it is. Last November, Cheltenham was crowned the UK's 'new adultery capital'. According to figures from the annual Infidelity Index data provided by the UK's 'leading affairs site', 6.98 per cent of the town's population reportedly had affairs last year. Not far behind Cheltenham, known for its posh surroundings and four-day horse racing festival, was Farnham, Surrey, with 5.99 per cent of people allegedly cheating on their partners. In third place was Motherwell, Lanarkshire (5.63 per cent), followed by Warwick (5.61 per cent) and Braintree in Essex (5.55 per cent). Elsewhere, 5.36 per cent of the population in Rhyl, Denbighshire were reportedly caught up in affairs, as were 5.35 per cent of people in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. Towards the bottom of the list were Newbury, Berkshire (5.23 per cent), Frome, Somerset (5.18 per cent) and Wilmslow in Cheshire, (5.12 per cent). Commenting on the Infidelity Index results at the time, sex and relationships expert at Jessica Leoni said: 'While picturesque towns like Cheltenham may seem serene on the surface, data suggests that love lives here are anything but tranquil.' When it comes to the opposite end of the scale, Swindon has been dubbed the UK's 'most faithful town', with only 0.35 per cent reportedly cheating. Close behind are Bracknell, Berkshire (0.36 per cent), Dewsbury, West Yorkshire (0.39 per cent), Castlereagh in County Down (0.44 per cent) and Rotherham, South Yorkshire (0.58 per cent).

From England stars' sex tape scandal to Jack Grealish's wild night out in Tenerife: Footballers' most outrageous holiday controversies after Oldham star floored woman during Ibiza pool brawl

Oldham Athletic striker Kian Harratt has found himself embroiled in controversy this week after footage emerged of him throwing a plastic chair at a woman. Harratt, 23, whose identity was exclusively revealed by MailOnline, did so last Saturday at the Marco Polo Hotel in San Antonio, Ibiza, in response to a fight that he claimed was started by a '6ft 6in bully' who punched his friend. After being hit, the woman collapsed to the ground holding her face while the other group fell into the pool and topless Harratt retreated out of shot. It comes just weeks after the forward scored the winning goal in the National League play-off final at Wembley to earn the Latics promotion to League Two. But Harratt is not the first footballer to become involved in notorious incident while enjoying a holiday abroad. Read on below for a look at some mischievous players who racked up huge bills, ran into trouble with local police and even stole a taxi. West Bromwich Albion players in taxi drama During their last season in the Premier League, which came in 2017-18, West Brom endured a miserable campaign. They went on a 20-match winless run en route to finishing bottom of the table, with things faring worse for some of the squad off the pitch. The nadir of a forgetful season for the Baggies arguably came in February 2018 when captain Jonny Evans, Gareth Barry, Jake Livermore, and Boaz Myhill allegedly stole a taxi to get back to their Spanish hotel from a McDonald's in Barcelona. At the time, police confirmed they passed the players' details on to an investigating court after racing to their five-star boutique hotel, The One, to recover the taxi following a call from a concerned receptionist. Evans was subsequently stripped of the West Brom captaincy as punishment for his actions and apologised along with his three teammates. Fortunately for the group of players involved, a Barcelona court shelved the probe against them because of a 'lack of proof.' England stars' Ayia Napa sex tape scandal While England's so-called 'Golden Generation' will be remembered for never winning a major tournament, a select few of them will also live long in the memory for their errant antics when they were not playing for the Three Lions. In 2000, Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard and Kieron Dyer all briefly appeared in a video that contained sexually explicit content. It was filmed in the Cypriot town of Ayia Napa - a town notoriously popular with British tourists. In 2004, Channel 4 aired a brief clip of the video as part of their 2004 documentary Sex, Footballers and Videotape, claiming it was used to 'remind the viewer that [the programme] is based on real life'. The incident was subsequently revealed to the nation just days after Dyer returned home to England. After he was involved in an altercation in Ipswich that ended with him having to go to the hospital to check whether his vision had been permanently damaged, images of the sex tape appeared in the now-defunct News of the World. Dyer later revealed all behind the incident in a MailSport column in 2018, in which he wrote: 'We didn't give a s***. It was the end of the season and we thought we were invincible. Being called animals in the press ought to have curbed our enthusiasm, but we just carried on. 'We knew there were cameras around and we knew reporters were following us. We didn't care. 'They printed one picture of me on the back of a moped with Rio. That was astonishingly tame compared to the rest of the stuff we got up to, but it got me in trouble because my contract said something about not riding motorbikes.' Jack Grealish's smoke-fuelled Tenerife session Jack Grealish, once the Premier League's most expensive signing, has consistently been open about his love of playing hard on and off the field. While still at his boyhood club Aston Villa in 2015, at the age of 19, he was pictured sprawled over in the Spanish island of Tenerife. He appeared to be lying next to packets of cigarettes while holidaying there with friends during the off-season. In response to the images emerging, Villa released a statement in which they said they would hold an internal meeting with the player. Fortunately, Grealish and the club were able to put the incident behind them in the years that followed. The Villans were able to re-establish themselves as a Premier League force thanks to Grealish's exploits, while the midfielder won a Treble with Manchester City following his £100million move in 2021. Maguire's Mykonos nightmare In August 2020, England and Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire was given a 21-month suspended sentence for assaulting a police officer while on a trip to the Greek island of Mykonos. He was also convicted of attempted bribery after officers arrived to break up a brawl outside a bar. In a statement printed in Greek publication Protothema, one of the arresting officers on the night of the scrap claimed that Maguire was abusive after being placed under arrest in Greece. The statement alleges Mr Maguire shouted: 'F*** you all, f*** off, f*** the Greek police, f*** policemen, f*** Greece, f*** the Greek civilisation, I don't give a s***'. The statement adds that Maguire, 'attacked the pushed him away and kicked him in the right leg causing swelling of his left and right tibia.' However, the Man United star does not have a criminal record as his original conviction was 'nullified' and insists he is innocent. In an interview with the BBC shortly after the incident occurred, he said: 'I don't feel I owe an apology to anybody. An apology is something when you have done something wrong.' 'I don't wish it on anybody. Obviously the situation has made it difficult for one of the biggest clubs in the world, so I regret putting the fans and the club through this, but I did nothing wrong.' In March this year, his defence lawyer Alexis Anagnostakis, said: 'It is impermissible that my client has been denied the fundamental right, as set out by Greek and EU law, to understand the case file in his own language, in this case English.' After the panel of judges agreed with the statement, it saw the hearing postponed until October 8, allowing court-appointed interpreters six months to translate the case file from Greek to English.
