Forsyth County gets update on project to lure NHL franchise to Georgia
Developers are working on finalizing documents to present to the NHL for a potential expansion team in Forsyth County, Georgia, but there is no set timeline for a decision.
The proposed development, The Gathering at South Forsyth, includes an 18,000-seat hockey arena and a mixed-use community, fully funded by real estate taxes from the site.
The project is located near Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Union Hill Road, and aims to rival Truist Park's The Battery in terms of community integration.
Metro Atlanta has previously lost two NHL teams, the Flames and the Thrashers, and the NHL currently has no plans to expand or relocate a team to Atlanta.

The backstory
This past March, Fulton County commissioners entered into a binding memorandum of understanding with Krause Sports and Entertainment, the developers of the new multi-billion-dollar arena and community, The Gathering at South Forsyth. It would feature an 18,000-seat hockey arena at the center of hotels, homes, and restaurants. Developers on Tuesday night presented their project to the taxpayers.
The proposed live-work-play center would be located at Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Union Hill Road, about a mile from Georgia 400.
Taxpayers are being promised they will not be paying for a thing. The project would be fully funded by real estate taxes from buildings on the 102-acre site.

Metro Atlanta has already had two pro-hockey teams leave the area: the Flames and the Thrashers. The NHL has expressed no plans to expand the league or move a team to Atlanta.
However, the developers believe it is the right location and that they feel they may have the right team.
What would happen to the project if it didn't land the NHL team? Developer Vernon Krause says he would have to reassess things.
Krause would like to open the arena in time for the 2027 NHL season.

Projecting Jets' Forward Lines For The 2025-26 Season As the Winnipeg Jets prepare for the next NHL season, the buzz around their projected lineup has started to commence with fans wondering what they can expect to see from the 2025-26 team. 1st Pair: Josh Morrissey - Dylan DeMelo The Jets top defensive pairing is coming off a season, where they played more minutes together than any other pairing in the NHL. With 1,225 minutes played together over 80 of the 82 games in the regular season, the dynamic duo were on the ice for 51 goals scored while only surrendering 35 goals. Their chemistry is undeniable and will continue playing a factor in Winnipeg's 2.49 team goals against average that ranks first in the NHL over the last three seasons. 2nd Pair: Dylan Samberg - Neal Pionk Winnipeg's second unit on the backend was also lethal with 710 minutes played together over 48 games played. The duo was on the ice for 36 goals scored, which outranked notable pairings with more minutes played like Vegas' Noah Hanifan and Alex Pietrangelo, who played 771 minutes but scored 34 goals or Minnesota's Brock Faber and Jake Middleton, who played 945 minutes but only scored 32 goals. It's a telling sign when your team's second defensive unit is outscoring other teams first unit especially contenders like the Golden Knights and Wild. Samberg and Pionk allowed just 21 goals while on the ice together and had the second-best goal differential of any defensive pairing with 700 or more minutes played together. 3rd Pair: Logan Stanley - Luke Schenn Schenn was one of the Jets most notable adds from the trade deadline this past season but his chemistry with Stanley wasn't as smooth as people hoped. They played 36 minutes together over five playoff games and were on the ice for one goal scored and four surrendered. The regular season wasn't much better as they played 38 minutes together and totaled another three goals against with no goals scored. This lack of time together likely didn't give them much of a rhythm when working with each other and an offseason with extended time playing together should completely revitalize this line and make them far more productive. If the line doesn't work out, the Jets will have options in Haydn Fleury and Colin Miller that will both likely work in and see time if this line continues to struggle. Filip Zadina Signs Multi-Year Contract Extension In Switzerland
Swiss club HC Davos has signed three of its key forwards to three-year contract extensions – Czech Filip Zadina, 25, Canadian Adam Tambellini, 30, and Swede Simon Ryfors, 27. 'We are delighted that Simon, Filip, and Adam have so clearly committed to HCD and are planning their future with us,' said club sports director Jan Alston. 'All three are hungry for more, and we expect a high level of play from them over the next three years.' It's interesting that Zadina chose to sign long-term in Davos after last summer, when the Czech winger was reportedly close to signing with his hometown club Dynamo Pardubice, but a sticking point was term – the club wanted a multi-year deal but Zadina, then 24, wanted to keep his NHL options available and chose the shorter-term offer from Davos. Presumably, this contract contains an opt-out in case he receives an NHL offer. Last season, Zadina had 43 points in 53 National League regular-season and playoff games. He also had four points in three games in the Spengler Cup, which Davos hosts annually. In addition to Tambellini and Ryfors, Zadina's teammates in Davos this season will include ex-NHLers Joakim Nordström, Brendan Lemieux, Rasmus Asplund and Klas Dahlbeck. Rasmus Asplund Leaves Florida Organization For Switzerland Swedish forward Rasmus Asplund, 27, has signed a two-year contract with HC Davos, the National League club announced on Tuesday. Originally from Pardubice, Czechia, Zadina went overseas at age 17 to play junior hockey for the QMJHL's Halifax Mooseheads. After winning the league's rookie-of-the-year award and making the first all-star team, he was drafted sixth overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Between 2018 and 2024, Zadina played 262 NHL games for the Wings and San Jose Sharks, recording 91 points and 40 penalty minutes. In 2023-24, his last NHL campaign to date, Zadina hit career highs in games played (72) and goals (13). Internationally, Zadina performed brilliantly for the Czechs at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo, recording eight points in seven games as the Czechs finished fourth.
