Merseyrail cleaners dispute ends as pay offer accepted
A dispute between cleaners on the Merseyrail transport netrwork and the outsourcing firm Churchill Services has ended after workers accepted a pay offer.Union members, who had threatened 48-hour strike action during the Grand National race festival, voted overwhelmingly to accept the offer, the RMT union said. The new agreement includes a six per cent pay rise backdated to April 2023, a further five per cent from April 2024, improved sick pay, and an uplift to a £15 minimum hourly rate from April 2025 It maked a "significant victory for the low-paid cleaning workforce", the RMT said. Churchill Services declined to comment.
RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said the victory was down to the "guts and determination of members who stood strong throughout the dispute"."They have won better pay, better conditions, and the respect they deserve," he said."But this win should not have taken strike action to settle as cleaners working on Merseyrail should not be outsourced in the first place."Merseyrail needs to be brought back into full public ownership, and that means bringing cleaning staff back in-house where they belong."As long as profiteering contractors like Churchill are involved, workers will always be fighting uphill."Public transport should be run in the public interest – not to line the pockets of private firms."Merseyrail have been contacted for comment.

DWP welfare cuts to result in 150,000 in poverty - despite major U-turn
Around 150,000 people will still be pushed into poverty under the government's proposed welfare cuts, new modelling suggests. It comes despite a major U-turn by Keir Starmer last week to water-down the policy after a massive Labour revolt threatened a Commons defeat. In a dramatic climbdown on Thursday, the PM agreed to protect all existing claimants from losing Personal Independence Payments. The changes to PIP will now only apply to new claims from November 2026. But new modelling published by the Department for Work and Pensions today says an additional 150,000 individuals will be in relative poverty after housing costs by the end of 2029-30. A previous analysis - before the concessions - said the reforms would result in an extra 250,000 people, including 50,000 children, would fall into poverty. Home Bargains shoppers impressed as £100 perfume reduced to £40
The budget store has knocked a huge 60% off the price of a popular Marc Jacobs perfume Home Bargains has wowed customers with its latest online offer, which many have hailed for its 'great price'. The discount chain, renowned nationwide for its budget-friendly deals on daily necessities, has dramatically reduced the price of a luxury perfume. Shoppers can now get a hefty 100ml bottle of Marc Jacobs Dot Eau de Parfum from Home Bargains' website for just £39.99, thanks to an impressive 60% markdown. Typically, this premium scent retails at £100 for an equivalent bottle, even reaching £102 at The Perfume Shop. However, perfume enthusiasts can pocket a whopping £60 saving by purchasing through Home Bargains. The fragrance itself boasts top notes of red berries, dragonfruit, and luscious honeysuckle. At its heart, the 'floral' essence is enriched with jasmine, coconut water, and orange blossom. It rounds off with a base of smooth vanilla, driftwood, and 'sensual' musks, reports the Liverpool Echo. On its website, Home Bargains describes the product: "Dive into the delightful world of Marc Jacobs Dot Eau de Parfum! This 100ml floral fragrance bursts with red berries and honeysuckle, blossoming into a heart of jasmine and coconut, finishing with a creamy vanilla touch that's simply irresistible." With Home Bargains charging a standard home delivery fee of £3.95, the total cost for shoppers comes to £43.94. Yet, this remains a significant bargain compared to the usual retail price tag of £100. The enticing deal was spotlighted by the thrifty members on the well-liked Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, where a user named Melissa shared a comparison snapshot of the Marc Jacobs Dot perfume prices at Home Bargains and The Perfume Shop. She pointed out: "Marc Jacobs Dot £39.99 in home bargains or £102 in the perfume shop." The comments section quickly buzzed with excitement over the remarkable price difference. An impressed commenter said: "I just bought 3 the other day." Another said: "I got this at Xmas, it was £95 and I loved it, everyone in work loved it too. I think I might need to buy it for myself again, so nice." Meanwhile, another added: "It's not a bad price." On the webpage of The Perfume Shop, the scent by Marc Jacobs boasts an impressive customer rating of 4.7 out of five stars. In a glowing review, one customer described the fragrance as: "It is a really pretty, playful scent, light, fruity, and floral with a fresh, almost tropical vibe." Another content shopper expressed: "I've been wearing Marc Jacobs Dot for a while now and I absolutely love how playful and uplifting it is." Another designer perfume Home Bargains has slashed in price, is Calvin Klein's Sheer Beauty, which usually costs £62 for 100ml but is now £27. There's also Jimmy Choo's Flash, which has been reduced from £62 to £39.99.

Uefa POSTPONE decision on Crystal Palace's Europa League fate indefinitely with club left in limbo
CRYSTAL BALL Uefa POSTPONE decision on Crystal Palace's Europa League fate indefinitely with club left in limbo Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) CRYSTAL PALACE'S agonising Europa League limbo has been indefinitely extended. The Eagles place in Europe next season is under threat due to Uefa's multi-club ownership rules. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 UEFA have once again delayed the ruling over Crystal Palace's future in the Europa League Credit: AFP John Textor, who is selling his majority share in Palace, also owns French side Lyon who have qualified for the competition alongside the south Londoners. Palace bosses have been in talks with Uefa's Club Financial Control Body to argue their case and were expecting a resolution this week. However, with Textor's financial trouble at Lyon having seen the club relegated to Ligue 2 the chaos drags on. The seven-time French champions have appealed against the relegation but will forfeit their place in Europe should they fail. In a statement on Monday, Uefa said: "The CFCB First Chamber has decided to postpone its assessment of the multi-club ownership case involving Olympique Lyonnais and Crystal Palace. "This postponement relates to Olympique Lyonnais' compliance with the settlement agreement concluded with the CFCB First Chamber for its breach of the financial sustainability requirements. "As part of this settlement, Olympique Lyonnais agreed on an exclusion from the 2025/26 UEFA club competitions should the French authority (DNCG) confirm the club's relegation to Ligue 2. "Further details on this multi-club ownership case and this settlement agreement will be communicated in due course." MORE TO FOLLOW THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY..
