Michelle Obama reveals she turns to Bruce Springsteen for help amid divorce rumors

Daily Mail14-06-2025
Michelle Obama revealed on her podcast that she looks to Bruce Springsteen for marital advice as rumors of divorce between her and Barack have swirled in recent months.
The former First Lady hosted Springsteen on the recent June 11 episode of IMO, Michelle's podcast with her brother & Craig Robinson.
The two dove into a bevy of topics, including Springsteen's relationship with his father, parenting, and marriage.
Michelle praised her rock star bestie for his over 30-year marriage to Patti Scialfa, a guitarist and singer-songwriter.
'You and Patti have been couple mentors for me and Barack for quite some time,' she said.
Springsteen was shocked to learn that the former First Lady and President looked to him and his wife for couple advice, exclaiming, 'Whoa! Alright.'
The rock legend revealed that he and his wife came from 'complicated families,' and they worked to make sure their children weren't burdened by the toxicity they endured.
'Let your sins be your own for your children. Let them have their own mistakes, just don't make my mistakes over again,' Springsteen said when discussing how he and Scialfa parented their children.
'It's rare that people don't pass their stuff on,' Michelle responded.
'And that's one of the things that I marvel at you and Patti and the work that you all have done, because you learn those lessons,' she continued.
Meeting: Michelle said that she admired Bruce and his wife Patti's communication skills and that they were 'couple mentors' to her and Barack
Michelle went on to praise Springsteen and Scialfa for their communication skills and admitted that she looked to them for advice on maintaining a healthy marriage.
'You got two powerful people in you and Patti, your own powerhouses in your own right,' Michelle added.
The comments come as the public has speculated about the Obamas' marriage for months.
The rumors began when Michelle skipped several high-profile events, including Donald Trump's inauguration and former President Jimmy Carter's funeral.
Speculation only heightened when the pair weren't seen together for months and refused to publicly address their marriage.
Michelle finally cryptically addressed the rumors in April on actress and activist Sophia Bush's podcast.
'That's the thing that we as women, I think we struggle with disappointing people,' Michelle said.
'I mean, so much so that this year people were, you know, they couldn't even fathom that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing.'
'That this couldn't be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself, right? That's what society does to us.'
The couple were then seen for the first time together in six months, leaving The Lowell Hotel restaurant in New York City.
Neither couple has explicitly denied the rumors, but the two have been vocal about their relationship and their love for one another.
Earlier this week, Michelle posted a family photo for their youngest daughter, Sasha's, birthday.
Michelle also dismissed the rumors during a podcast episode of The Diary of a CEO, telling the hosts, 'If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it.'
Despite the rumors, Michelle praised her husband on her latest podcast episode as a 'tremendous father.'
She said that even when Barack was president, he left the job at the door whenever he talked to his daughters to help cultivate their formative years.
Springsteen has long had a relationship with the Obamas, and even hosted a podcast series with Obama in 2021 titled, Renegades: Born in the USA.

Amusement park ride stops in mid-air leaving thrill seekers dangling in terror

Shocking footage captures an amusement park ride stopped in mid-air, leaving riders dangling high above the ground. The Sol Spin ride at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California, suddenly malfunctioned Saturday afternoon as it was rotating 360 degrees. Video from the Citizen App showed about 20 riders stuck in mid-air, with many screaming, some swinging their legs, and others leaning sideways on one of the ride's six arms. "The safety of our guests is a top priority. Today the ride did not complete a full cycle as a safety precaution. The ride was stopped for approximately five minutes,' Knott's Berry Farm said in a statement to ABC7. The ride then reopened after 'a full safety inspection,' the statement continued. The Independent has reached out to the amusement park for more information. 'This thrilling ride is one for the brave,' Knott's Farm says of Sol Spin. It rotates riders in three directions simultaneously, according to the park's website. 'Sol Spin sends guests on a thrilling adventure over six stories high as they rotate in all directions on one of six spinning arms. Each arm rotates 360-degrees independent of one another providing a different experience every ride,' the website states. Social media users replied to videos of the harrowing incident, calling it a 'nightmare.' One X user remarked: 'Oh. Hell. No. One of my worst fears unlocked.' 'What a nightmare!' another said. Another recalled a similar incident last year, put it succinctly: 'Again.' Last November, the same ride left 22 people suspended in the air for two hours due to 'technical difficulties,' a spokesperson for the amusement park said at the time. Some riders left the thrill ride in wheelchairs while two female guests were taken to the hospital for further evaluation "out of an abundance of caution,' the spokesperson said in November. The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health then inspected the ride, KTLA reported.

Considering an open relationship? Don't read this Reddit forum

It all started with Elon Musk's black eye. In May, the President's on-again-off-again best friend appeared in the Oval Office visibly bruised. He laughed it off and said his five-year-old child had done it. The internet had other ideas. Soon, a round of extremely unconfirmed speculation began about an alleged – and I cannot stress the word 'alleged' enough – throuple: Musk; Trump's deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller, and his wife, political adviser Katie Miller. The Democrats even weighed in with a post of an empty hotel room chair, a notorious signpost of cuckoldry. I'm not alone in finding perverse joy in other people's relationship dramas. Reddit's crowdsourced advice sections, particularly r/relationships and r/amitheasshole, have long been staples of viral posts. They're portable soap operas – or in some cases, sitcoms – with the added spice that they're (probably, sometimes, maybe) real. The Musk-Miller saga led me to r/openmarriageregret, a subreddit mining and reposting threads from other relationship and polyamory boards for cautionary tales of open relationships gone wrong. Maintaining a relationship with another human being contorts us into new ugly shapes. Maintaining a relationship with two or more other human beings can break us apart. The page opens with a sober preamble: 'Life is about choices. Some we regret, some we are proud of – and some will haunt us for ever.' It's all very 'don't try this at home'. Sure. This is for educational purposes. Many posts are as you'd imagine: a man pressures his wife into an open relationship and is then shocked to discover that she's a sought-after 10 and he's sexual kryptonite. But things can get so much worse. One user asks if they're in the wrong 'for leaving our honeymoon because my husband and his boyfriend kept leaving me and my girlfriend out'. Another writes of a very contemporary woe: 'My husband wants to open our marriage for his AI girlfriend and says it's the next step in their relationship.' Her partner has been acting distant lately, she says, spending a lot of time on the phone, smiling to himself, hiding away in the home office. Then he says he has something to tell her. Is he having an affair? No. It's far worse. The user continues: 'He told me he wants to take the next step with her.' This involves introducing the AI to their children. 'How do I stay married to someone who's half emotionally checked out of our life and into a fucking chatbot?' In the comments, several people share their experience of male partners becoming enamoured of a simulation of a woman who doesn't talk back and is programmed to think everything he says is brilliant. The voyeurism of the group is twofold: of course the relationship dramas are engaging. But so are the way people discuss these real scenarios. The commenters bring their own baggage and bias, perhaps not realising they're part of the drama themselves. The group's diehards subscribe to one central thesis: that those opening their relationships want novelty and attention, and the person who provides this is functionally irrelevant. The thesis, of course, doesn't necessarily hold water. As much as non-monogamy continues to rise, we've been gawking at successful open arrangements for decades. Not that it matters to the group's frequenters, who forge forward in their cynicism, however misinformed. 'I know absolutely no one in an open relationship or marriage,' says one user, who is in the top 1% of commenters in the group. I know, by my slightly unsettling investment in the group, that I'm complicit. But I can't look away. Who are these commenters? Who hurt them? Why are they so devoted to other people's romantic dramas, their crumbling marriages? Why am I? The emotional zing of gossip is strong. Even the usually humourless Democrats are in on it. So, putting ill will to one side: I truly hope the alleged Musk-Miller polycule patch things up. Alleged! I mean alleged! They're made for each other.
