U.K. Restrictions
Chief Executive Sir Pascal Soriot, as reported by The Times, has spoken privately about his desire to leave the FTSE 100 behind and head stateside.
Soriot is said to be concerned about how quickly Europe is falling behind the U.S. and China when it comes to medicine innovation. He is also known to be frustrated by the restrictions on approvals of new drugs and treatments by the state-owned National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, or NICE – such as breast cancer drug Enhertu.
AstraZeneca is no stranger to the U.S., which accounts for over 40% of its $54 billion group revenues. It recently ramped up investment there both to escape tariff hits and as a move away from those U.K. and European restrictions.
London Loss
The loss of the firm, with a market value of around £160 billion, would be a major blow to the London stock market and will likely meet opposition from some shareholders and the U.K. government.
It would follow on the heels of other firms shifting their primary listings to the U.S., such as building materials supplier CRH (CRH).
'America is important to its growth strategy and it could become an even bigger cog in the wheel,' said Dan Coatsworth, investment analyst at AJ Bell. 'The CEO seems frustrated at the lack of financial support to open new laboratories and manufacturing facilities in Europe and might see a full U.S. stock listing as a stepping stone to receiving better treatment stateside.'

Ryanair and easyJet cancel hundreds of flights amid air traffic control strikes

Thousands of passengers have had their travel plans disrupted after low-cost airlines Ryanair and easyJet cancelled hundreds of flights due to French air traffic control strikes. Ryanair said it was forced to make 170 cancellations on Thursday and Friday as the strikes affect flights to and from France – and also flights over the country to destinations such as the UK, Greece, Spain and Ireland – impacting more than 30,000 passengers. Luton-based rival easyJet said it had cancelled 124 flights today and was scrapping 150 tomorrow due to the industrial action. EasyJet said customers have been contacted directly and have the option to transfer to another flight for free or receive a refund, but advised all passengers to check the status of their flights in case of further disruption over the next two days. 'While this is outside of our control, we will do all we can to minimise the impact of the strike action,' easyJet said. Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary renewed calls on EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to take 'urgent action' to reform European Union air traffic control (ATC) services in light of the disruption, which comes at the start of the European summer holidays. Mr O'Leary said: 'Once again, European families are held to ransom by French air traffic controllers going on strike. 'It is not acceptable that overflights over French airspace en route to their destination are being cancelled/delayed as a result of yet another French ATC strike. 'It makes no sense and is abundantly unfair on EU passengers and families going on holidays.' EasyJet echoed the plea, asking for 'long-term solutions'. It said: 'On behalf of our passengers we are extremely unhappy with the strike action, particularly given the current performance of French ATC which has been the leading cause of airspace delays in Europe this summer. 'Long term solutions must be found for our customers and crew who suffer repeated disruption.' Airlines have long-campaigned for an overhaul of ATC services across Europe. Ryanair said it wants the EU to ensure ATC services are fully staffed for the first wave of daily departures, as well as to protect overflights during national ATC strikes. 'These two splendid reforms would eliminate 90% of all ATC delays and cancellations, and protect EU passengers from these repeated and avoidable ATC disruptions due to yet another French ATC strike,' Mr O'Leary added. Ryanair also said on Wednesday it had been hit by the recent conflict in the Middle East, and it cancelled more than 800 flights last month. It is among those to have cancelled and rerouted flights amid the conflict between Israel and Iran, as well as continued attacks in Gaza, which last week saw flights halted at Dubai airport in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

UiPath Names Romanian Olympic Swimming Champion David Popovici as Global Ambassador

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--UiPath (NYSE: PATH), a global leader in agentic automation, today announced that it has named Romanian Olympic swimming champion David Popovici a Global Ambassador. In this capacity, Popovici will be attending and speaking at several UiPath events globally. The partnership, spanning four years, will support the young athlete throughout his preparation for the biggest European and world swimming competitions, culminating with the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. A freestyle swimming specialist, the 20-year-old Bucharest-born David Popovici broke into the elite swimming scene with a standout performance at the 2022 World Championships. Then aged 17, Popovici became the first male swimmer in 49 years to win the 100m and 200m freestyle at the same World Championships. He also became the second-youngest swimmer ever to win the men's 200m world title. Popovici went on to win gold in the 200m and the 100m freestyle at the 2022 European Championships, becoming the second-youngest male swimmer ever to break the 100m freestyle world record, while also setting a new world junior record in the 200m race. In 2024, Popovici went on to improve on a fourth-place ranking in the 200m freestyle race at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics by winning the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the same race. He also won a bronze medal in the men's 100m freestyle final. Currently, Popovici is training towards his third consecutive Olympic Games and will next compete in the Singapore 2025 World Aquatics Championships. 'What makes David a champion isn't just raw talent – it's his ability to bring together every element that drives excellence: discipline, mindset, training, recovery, and the will to do it all over again. That kind of integration is what unlocks true performance. I see a similar principle in how we think about the future of technology: real breakthroughs happen when you combine the right parts – people, technology, and intelligence – into something greater than the sum of its parts. At UiPath, while we're shaping what technology can do, we're just as focused on the humans behind it. Our vision of agentic orchestration is about uniting people, AI agents, models, and robots into a cohesive system – just like David brings together every part of his craft. He's the perfect embodiment of the harmony between precision, perseverance, and purpose,' said UiPath Co-Founder and CEO Daniel Dines. 'I am delighted to share my journey with a partner who genuinely understands what it takes to excel in one's field. As a sportsman, I know firsthand that achieving global success requires hard work, discipline, unwavering motivation and the belief that you can win every time. UiPath is a place where innovative ideas are supported, where everyone is encouraged to express their creativity and contribute to developing the best technology in the world. It feels natural to partner with UiPath, a strong brand with a global impact that has remained true to its roots. We share much of the same journey, and this partnership goes beyond support – it's built on trust and shared values, representing a big source of inspiration to me,' said Olympic champion David Popovici. Between September 29 – October 1, 2025, UiPath will hold the first edition of UiPath FUSION, a high-touch, high-tech, white-glove event for the most passionate and innovative members of the UiPath ecosystem. David Popovici will join UiPath Co-Founder and CEO Daniel Dines on stage during the event. Register here to join UiPath FUSION at the Wynn Las Vegas. Ryanair cancels flights for 30,000 passengers amid French ATC strike

July 3 (UPI) -- Ryanair publicly called on the European Commission Thursday to reform EU Air Traffic Control services as strikes by French ATC employees have canceled flights for more than 30,000 people. "European families are held to ransom by French Air Traffic Controllers going on strike," wrote Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary in a press release. "It is not acceptable that overflights over French airspace en route to their destination are being canceled/delayed as a result of yet another French ATC strike." "It makes no sense and is abundantly unfair on EU passengers and families going on holidays," he added. Ryanair asked EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to "take urgent action to reform EU ATC services" after the airline was forced to cancel 170 flights slated for Thursday and Friday, which happens to coincide with the start of the European summer holiday season. Ryanair's release also noted that aside from flights involving France being canceled, flights that fly over France to and from countries such as Ireland, Spain and Greece are also impacted. "EU skies cannot be repeatedly closed just because French Air Traffic Controllers are going on recreational strikes," it declared. "I am determined to stand firm against this unacceptable movement," said French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot in an X post Wednesday. He called the ATC's choice to strike during the peak holiday departure time and salary increase demands, among other conditions, "unacceptable." Tabarot also noted that the ATC strike impacts Air France, whose losses he said "are likely to amount to millions of euros, a burden that will ultimately fall on French taxpayers." Ryanair has also created a website titled "Air Traffic Control Ruined Your Flight," which lists several EU nations' transportation ministers under the banner "ATC League Of Delays." It lists each minister's country, then alleges how many flights have been disrupted and passengers have been impacted by ATC delays. It has Tabarot at the top, and purports 26,008 flights and 4,681,440 have been affected under his watch. O'Leary also said in his statement that should von der Leyen reform EU ATC services by making sure ATC services are fully staffed for the beginning of daily departures and provide protection for overflights during national ATC strikes, it would "eliminate 90% of all ATC delays and cancellations, and protect EU passengers from these repeated and avoidable ATC disruptions due to yet another French ATC strike." The UNSA-ICNA air traffic control engineer union had announced in June it would be striking on July 3 and 4, and in a statement released Saturday said it is "calling for a change of course to strengthen the staff, to complete technical modernization projects and to reinstate operational priorities at the heart of decisions."
