About the Ghibli 3D Sculpture Exhibition
The
Ghibli 3D Sculpture Exhibition
is being hosted inside
Warehouse Terrada's B&C Hall
. The venue is located in the Tennozu Isle, situated between Shinagawa and Odaiba, which is accessible by either the Tokyo Monorail or Rinkai Haneda Airport line. The isle is often nicknamed as the 'art and design island' — a little artsy hub where you can enjoy cutting-edge galleries, stock up on art supplies and grab a bite complimented by peaceful seaside dining. The surrounding area, with its steady waves and full docks, pairs well with the serenity and tranquil moments that Studio Ghibli has come to masterfully interject and be renowned for. At the entrance of the exhibit, you'll find Ponyo sprinting atop a tower of fish to greet you in.
The exhibit originally debuted in 2003 and now, after 22 long years, it's making its much-anticipated comeback. Running until September 23, the gallery features several large models recreating famous movie moments, including scenes from
My Neighbor Totoro
,
Spirited Away
,
Howl's Moving Castle
and
Pom Poko
.
The models use various visual elements and techniques to add a sense of wonder to the figures. Dancing strips of paper placed on top of the light fixtures give the illusion of
komorebi
blanketing Totoro and Mei as they nap in the forest. Intricately arranged food scraps and garbage in the
Spirited Away
model subtly cast the ominous monstrous shadow of No Face following the banquet at Yubaba's bath house. Creaky and slightly unsteady mechanisms bring out the charming choreography of Howl's expressive moving castle.
Various interactive photo spots can also be found through the exhibition. Interactive spots include areas where you can pet Moon the cat on a train, just as Shizuku did in
Whisper of the Heart
,
or to confront the humanoid shapeshifting heron from Ghibli's most recent release,
The Boy and the Heron
.
Coming to the gallery alone or need a helping hand for a group photo? Staff members are available at each interactive photo spot to snap your perfect shot.
On top of the impressive 3D models, the exhibit also covers extensive history on how Studio Ghibli's films reached the hearts of millions of people across the globe. A significant portion of the attraction is dedicated to explaining international distribution plans and the translation/dubbing process. International theatrical posters adorn the walls of the gallery, showing the global enthusiasm
of fans.
Conclude your visit to the exhibit at the
Porco Rosso
Piccolo-inspired warehouse, where you'll find a recreation of the Savoia S-21 flying boat.
Watch An Exclusive Short Film
The exhibit is running a special screening of the short animated film
Kuso no Sora Tobu Kikaitachi
(
Imaginary Flying Machines
). Directed by Hayao Miyazaki, and accompanied by the ever-beautiful music of Joe Hisaishi, the short film was created in 2002 for the Ghibli Museum in Mikata.
Exhibition Merchandise
There are some
exclusive goods
available at the exhibit's gift shop, along with other merchandise from the Ghibli Museum and Donguri Republic. Exhibit-exclusive items include t-shirts inspired by
Porco Rosso,
bookmarks depicting all of the featured characters and an official catalogue book with 112 pages full of photos from the exhibit and interviews from Studio Ghibli's history.

Nintendo quarterly revenue surges thanks to Switch 2
Pent-up demand for the new gadget from the 'Super Mario' gamemaker fuelled fan excitement at the release By Katie Forster Nintendo on Friday said quarterly revenue had more than doubled year-on-year thanks to the Switch 2, which became the world's fastest-selling console after its launch in early June. Pent-up demand for the new gadget from the "Super Mario" gamemaker fueled fan excitement at the release that saw sold-out pre-orders and midnight store openings. Like the hugely popular original Switch, the Switch 2 is a hybrid console that can be handheld or connected to a television, with a bigger screen and more processing power than its predecessor. It smashed industry records by selling 3.5 million units in its first four days, and Nintendo said Friday that the figure had increased to 5.8 million units by the end of June. "Net sales increased significantly in the first quarter, due mainly to the launch of Nintendo Switch 2," the Japanese company said as it reported a 132 percent on-year jump in sales for April-June, to 572 billion yen ($3.8 billion). Net profit in the quarter rose 19 percent on-year. However, a challenge for Nintendo will be maintaining a supply of hit games for the new system, gaming industry consultant Serkan Toto told AFP. "There are new games from the Pokemon, Metroid and Kirby franchises coming later this year, but some fans have already started to ask for even more titles," he said. But "the launch of Switch 2 has surpassed many people's expectations" and it will be hard for another console to match its strong start, Toto added. "Nintendo should be able to comfortably ride on this momentum through the holidays and into 2026," he predicted. The company expects to sell 15 million Switch 2 units by the end of March 2026 -- a target it left unchanged on Friday. Nathan Naidu of Bloomberg Intelligence said Nintendo was "likely" to hike this number, having already sold 40 percent of the target. The Switch 2 launch positions the company "for a major comeback after four straight years of lacklustre top-line momentum... barring punishing US tariffs that might prompt Nintendo to hike hardware prices", he wrote Friday. While Nintendo is diversifying into hit movies and theme parks, consoles remain at the core of its business. The original Switch soared in popularity during the pandemic with games such as "Animal Crossing" striking a chord during long lockdowns worldwide. It has sold 153 million units since its 2017 release, making it the third best-selling console of all time after Sony's PlayStation 2 and the Nintendo DS. The Switch 2, which has new features including controllers that can also be used like a desktop computer mouse, costs $449.99 in the United States -- more expensive than a launch price of $299.99 for the original. "Once the hardcore Nintendo fans are tapped out, the company will need to get to the next level by convincing mainstream players to make the jump to Switch 2," Toto noted. But the postponed launch of the hotly anticipated "Grand Theft Auto VI" (GTA6) by U.S. publisher Rockstar Games from this year to May 2026 will be a boon, he said. "If GTA6 (had) launched this year, it would have sucked almost all the oxygen out of the room and made marketing Switch 2 definitely harder for Nintendo." © 2025 AFP

Here's the Studio Ghibli cookbook recipe to make Lin's Spirited Away sweets she gave to Chihiro
A super-easy way to transport your taste buds to the bathhouse of the gods. Back at the start of the summer, Ghibli's Table, the series of cookbooks with official recipes for recreating the mouthwatering food seen in the anime movies of Studio Ghibli, got our attention with the announcement that it would finally be releasing a cookbook for Spirited Away. As of July 31, Ghibli's Table: Spirited Away is now on sale, and as a sort of appetizer, publisher Shufu no Tomo has revealed more details for some of the recipes contained inside. The Ghibli's Table recipes are designed to be simple enough for even cooking newbies to enjoy them. For example, even though the recipe for The Sweet Red Bean Paste Buns that Lin Gave to Chihiro is listed as a Level 3 recipe (Level 1 recipes are the easiest), it looks pretty easy. Just how easy? Well, let's take a look at the full list of ingredients and steps. The Sweet Red Bean Paste Buns that Lin Gave to Chihiro Ingredients ● Cake flour (150 grams/5.3 ounces) ● All-purpose flour (50 grams/1.8 ounces) ● Baking powder (3 grams/0.1 ounces) ● Sugar (1 tablespoon) ● Salt (1/4 teaspoon) ● Lukewarm water (Roughly 110 milliliters/3.4 ounces) ● Dry yeast (3 grams/0.1 ounces) ● Taihaku-brand sesame oil (1 teaspoon) ● Koshian/smooth sweet red bean paste (240 grams/8.5 ounces) ● Step 1 In a bowl, sift cake flour, all-purpose flour, and baking soda together. Add sugar and salt and mix all ingredients together. ● Step 2 In a separate bowl, dissolve dry yeast in lukewarm water. Add resulting mixture to bowl containing ingredients from Step 1 and mix lightly by hand. ● Step 3 While mixture is still powdery, add sesame oil and mix. ● Step 4 Press mixture firmly with base of hand, adding a small amount of water if it has hardened. Knead until smooth. ● Step 5 Roll mixture into ball and place in a bowl. Cover bowl with plastic wrap to prevent drying out. Let sit in a warm place for 30 to 60 minutes to ferment. ● Step 6 Cut dough into three equally sized pieces, re-rolling dough to cover incisions. Place on tray, cover with plastic wrap, and let sit for 10 minutes. ● Step 7 Divide sweet red bean paste into three equally sized portions and roll each into a ball. ● Step 8 Spread each piece of dough into a disc about 12 centimeters (4.7 inches) in diameter. Place ball of sweet red bean paste in center and wrap dough around it, making sure to firmly close up any openings. ● Step 9 Place each bun on a square of backing paper inside bowl or on dish. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit for 20 minutes for second fermentation. ● Step 10 Transfer buns to a bamboo steamer, add water and steam on medium heat for 15 minutes. ▼ Thanks, Lin! In addition to other recreation recipes like The Chicken Dish that Chihiro's Mother Ate, The Mysterious Food Chihiro's Father Ate, and Kamaji's Tempura Bowl, the cookbook will also teach you how to make revised versions of Spirited Away fare that will be more palatable for real-world diners, such as the Non-bitter Bitter Dumpling, which replaces the fantasy-world magical ingredients of the medicinal dumpling that Chihiro feeds to Haku with mugwort and aojiru (a kind of Japanese green vegetable juice). Ghibli's Table: Spirited Away is priced at 1,760 yen (US$12.15) and can be purchased online through Amazon Japan here and Rakuten here. And if this has you in the mood to try your hand at other Ghibli-inspired sweets, don't forget about the official recipe for Castle in the Sky Levistone candies.
