Our favorite Levoit air purifier is $37 off in this Prime Day deal

Engadget2 days ago

We now know that the 2025 edition of Amazon's blockbuster Prime Day sales event will start on July 8, and it's set to be bigger than ever as it will run for four days. But you don't need to wait until then for tasty deals. There will be plenty in the lead up to the event, including this one for the Levoit Core 400S air purifier. At $183, the device is $37 off. It's not quite the lowest price we've seen for this model. However, it's not too far off that mark of $176.
The Levoit Core 400S is our current pick for the best air purifier overall. Sure, it might not have the prettiest design of all the options we have tested and the companion app might have a little too much going on. But the Core 400S does its job and does it well.
This smart air purifier is slated to clean the atmosphere in spaces of up to 1,733 square feet in as little as one hour. The Core 400S has a cylindrical shape with vents at the top and a touch display that shows air quality readings. You'll be able to get a sense of the current air quality in your space at a glance with a color-changing ring that will light up in blue, green, orange or red. The 360-degree filtration system is said to be capable of capturing over 99.9 percent of pollutants as small as 0.3 microns, such as dust, pet dander and pollen.
There is an auto mode that should suffice for maintaining air quality, but the Core 400S is compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant voice controls too. The fan isn't too loud, even when it's operating at maximum speed — the volume topped out at 62dB in our testing. Meanwhile, at $50 each, the air filter replacements aren't too expensive compared with those from many of Levoit's competitors.

Is America's billionaire boom good for government, democracy? Tell us.

Billionaires are having a day. The White House is a good example of this happy time for the wealthiest among us, since it is the residence (once more) of our first billionaire president, Donald Trump. It was there that he was joined briefly by the richest man in the world, Elon Musk, who slashed his way through much of the federal government, then exited to go tend to rockets, electric cars and other ventures. But not to worry. Left behind are five billionaires brought into office by Trump, the most of any administration. Those magnates spent hundreds of millions of dollars to reelect Trump and to throw him an inaugural party. Opinion: What's an oligarchy? With Trump's 'Big, Beautiful' bill, we're living in one. As a national phenomenon, the number of billionaires has grown from one in the 1920s (industrialist Henry Ford) to more than 900. Since the start of the 21st century, that group's wealth has expanded nine times, aided by Trump's 2017 tax cuts. For the country's lower half of earners, the expansion was double, mostly due to stimulus checks. I say all this to set up the question for you: What do we think of this conspicuous power of America's billionaires? Is it something to fear, as President Joe Biden warned on his way out the door, saying there is a growing oligarchy that "threatens our entire democracy, our basic rights and freedoms, and a fair shot for everyone to get ahead"? Or are these exceptional people whom we should celebrate? They are, after all, the group that brought us Starlink, a satellite system that kept Ukraine afloat in its war against Russia. And Amazon. (Boy, I like not going to the store to buy that thingy to fix my dryer. And I get it the next day!) Opinion: You're not really mad at the Bezos, Sánchez luxury Venice wedding. You're just poor. If Bezos' Wealth Was Evenly Distributed Across the U.S., How Much Would We Get?

It's no secret that Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, is one of the richest people in the world. According to Forbes Real Time Billionaires List, Bezos tends to hover in the top five wealthiest humans on the planet, after Elon Musk and in the company of Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Page and Warren Buffett. Read More: Find Out: But what if one day, Bezos decided to dismantle his empire and liquidate his assets in order to give everyone in the United States an equal share? GOBankingRates is checking the math to see how much money every American would have if every citizen got a piece of Bezos' wealth. Based on the U.S. Census Bureau's tracking and data, the total American population is at 341,891,315 as of June 2025. The numbers show that about one American is born every 9 seconds while another one dies about every eleven seconds, so the rate of growth and loss are fairly in step with one another. Theoretically, each of these people would receive an equal share of Bezos' fortune in a perfect world under ideal circumstances. In the real world, that could prove to be a Herculean task; however, for the sake of experimentation, everyone accounted for in the population will receive the same amount of Bezos' wealth at the same time on the same day. Discover Next: Forbes lists Jeff Bezos' net worth at $237 billion as of this writing, and he is considered to be one of the few people to be included in the $100 Billion Club. Using that figure and dividing it by the population of America, each person in the country would receive a sum in the range of $693.20. While that might not be a lot of money to some in the current economy, it would act similarly to a stimulus check or perhaps a holiday bonus. Bezos started from fairly humble beginnings and is now one of the richest people in the world. It might sound impossible to ever reach a salary that could cultivate wealth like Bezos', but it is not entirely out of the realm of possibility if you build for the future, not just for today. 'Bezos doesn't make decisions based on what looks good this quarter; he's thinking in five, 10, sometimes even 20-year timelines,' said Jamie Wall, a personal finance strategist at Gamblizard. 'Amazon didn't turn a profit until 2003, nearly a decade after it launched and seven years after going public.' 'For regular people, this means not basing every financial or career decision on short-term wins,' Wall concluded. 'Gaining wealth isn't a sprint, it's a marathon.'
