Iran strikes Israeli Channel 14 headquarters in major missile attack - Region
Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it targeted Israeli Channel 14's field broadcasting headquarters in Haifa on Friday with Sejil-3 long-range missiles, describing the strike as part of a wider operation involving 'long-range and very heavy missiles.'
The strike formed part of 'Wave 17' of Operation True Promise 3, according to Nour News, which is affiliated with Iran's Supreme National Security Council. The outlet said the attack followed a prior warning issued by the Guard.
Earlier, Iranian authorities had called for the evacuation of Channel 14's headquarters in Tel Aviv, warning it could also be targeted in the coming days.
The semi-official Mehr news agency described the channel as 'a propaganda outlet for Benjamin Netanyahu' and 'a hub for supporting terrorism.'
The strike on Haifa occurred amid a wider Iranian missile barrage that triggered air raid sirens across northern and southern Israel. Explosions were reported in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa, according to Israel's Home Front Command.
Channel 12 confirmed a direct hit in Haifa, where 21 people were injured, some seriously, according to Israel's ambulance service.
The Israeli Army radio said multiple impact sites were recorded across the country. Channel 7 reported that around 20 missiles were involved, while Al Jazeera earlier cited a figure of approximately 30.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said: 'The Zionist enemy is now receiving its punishment.'
The missile salvo marks one of the most extensive direct attacks by Iran since the war began on 13 June.
The Israeli military later lifted nationwide shelter orders and confirmed missile impacts in Haifa, as well as in central and southern areas.
Earlier, the Israeli army said its air force was carrying out renewed strikes on targets in western and central Iran, according to Israeli media.

A terminally ill 73-year-old Israeli woman has been charged with plotting to assassinate Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with a rocket launcher, prosecutors said on Thursday. According to the indictment, the woman, an anti-government activist from Tel Aviv whose identity has not been released, decided to kill Netanyahu after she learned of her diagnosis. She consequently decided to "sacrifice" her life in order to "save" the State of Israel from the current government, the prosecutor quoted her saying. She reportedly shared her plan with another activist and asked him to help her purchase a rocket-propelled grenade to carry out the assassination. She also asked him for his assistance in collecting information on the prime minister's agenda, movements, and security arrangements, the prosecutor said. The man refused to cooperate and tried to dissuade her but after realising that his attempts were in vain, he reported her to the authorities, leading to her arrest. The prosecutor requested to keep the woman under house arrest until the end of the legal proceedings, arguing that she still poses a danger, as evidenced by her statements that she was willing to die as a "martyr". An Israeli man was arrested last year after threatening to kill Netanyahu in a social media post. High-profile political assassinations are not unheard of in Israel. UN's Francesca Albanese urges Arab countries to do more to end Israel genocide in Gaza - Foreign Affairs
Francesca Albanese, the United Nations' special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, discussed in an interview with Al-Masry Al-Youm her vision on the role of the international community and the Arab world in ending the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza and Tel Aviv's rampage against various countries in the region. Albanese, a distinguished Italian legal scholar and expert on human rights, has served in the post since May 2022. In February 2024, Tel Aviv banned Albanese from entering the occupied territories for her outspoken rejection, detailed in various reports to the UN, of the Israeli genocide in Gaza and the crimes committed in the occupied West Bank. In early July, the US sanctioned Albanese for her 'illegitimate and shameful efforts' to prompt International Criminal Court prosecutions of Israeli and US officials, as well as corporations profiting from the occupation and bombardment. Al-Masry Al-Youm asked Albanese to comment on the suggestion by some that the countries neighbouring the Gaza Strip could break the blockade and allow humanitarian aid into the strip, and the response to these suggestions by Egypt and Jordan, for example, that Israel, as an occupying power, bears responsibility. "What is your position as a UN official? And who bears the real responsibility?" queried Al-Masry Al-Youm. "As a UN official, I hope Egypt will do more to help the people of Gaza, but we must be clear: if the crossing is opened and aid is allowed in, Israel may bomb it. This is the cruel equation," she said. "But what is truly required, given the impossibility of these assumptions, is for the most influential countries in the region, such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE, to use their power to tell Israel: "Stop bombing immediately, or we will cut off all forms of cooperation with you and with the United States. This is the position that can effect change," she added. "Today, we see Israel and the United States working together to undermine the international order while committing genocide against the Palestinians. Unfortunately, I don't see any real collective action from Arab or even Western countries to stop this madness." "Frankly, yes, I believe the major Arab countries are not doing enough to prevent this genocide. I don't even know if they describe what is happening in Gaza as "genocide," a question that should be clearly posed." To another question about what proposals Albanese believes could help end the tragedy in Gaza, and what steps should be taken either by Israel or by the international community to stop what is happening, she replied: 'The first necessary step is to impose sanctions on Israel. UN member states must halt all arms exports to Israel and stop buying weapons and security technologies from it. This also includes Arab states, which must cease all forms of trade with Israel." "Everyone must understand that there is no such thing as a 'good Israel' and a 'bad Israel in the settlements.' The Israeli state, with all its institutions, is committing crimes, and it must face consequences.
