Richard Ashcroft is welcoming "all new fans" after a gig-goer at Oasis' Cardiff gig was caught Shazaming The Verve's iconic hit Bitter Sweet Symphony.
The former frontman of the Britpop group is among the opening acts on the Oasis Live '25 Tour, and he has reacted to the viral moment someone was seen using the Shazam app to identify the 1997 classic in the crowd.
After night two of the Supersonic group's first tour in 16 years at Cardiff's Principality Stadium on July 5, Ashcroft penned on Instagram: "Day 2 thanks to everyone who came down and gave such beautiful support for my set. If you don't know it Shazam it, all new fans welcome! Love to LG for Cast No Shadow, what a tune! We move on Manchester. Are you ready? Music is Power RA."
The 53-year-old musician said when his support slot was confirmed last year: "As a fan from day one I was buzzing for many reasons when the news of Oasis' return was announced.
"I can say with no exaggeration that the songwriting talent of Noel and Liam's pure spirit as a lead singer helped to inspire me to create some of my best work.
"It was the perfection of Live Forever that forced me to try and write my own. They dared to be great, made the dreams we had real and I will always remember those days with joy.
"Now it's time to create more memories and I'm ready to bring it. See you next summer. Music is power."
Meanwhile, Ashcroft is set to release a brand new solo album, Lovin' You, on October 3.
It will be his first LP of all new material since 2018's Natural Rebel.
The Lovin' You album opens with its recently released first single Lover, which interpolates Joan Armatrading's 1976 song Love And Affection.
The single sets the standard for a record that finds Ashcroft at the height of his powers. The album spans the many facets of his sound, from his classic string-soaked acoustic balladry and anthemic indie-rock – through to flashes of Americana, soul and glitch electro beats.
Its themes are intimate and personal, dominated by love, romance and affecting messages of support for those struggling with life's challenges.

Oasis to rock London for the first time in more than 16 years

Oasis will return to the capital to play their first gig there in more than 16 years. After a run of homecoming gigs in Manchester's Heaton Park, the group, fronted by Gallagher brothers Liam and Noel, will take to the stage at London's Wembley Stadium on Friday. The rock band announced their highly anticipated reunion tour in August last year, after Noel quit in 2009 after a backstage brawl at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris. They will now return to perform at Wembley Stadium for the first time since July 12, 2009, when they performed during their Dig Out Your Soul tour. With five nights scheduled, the group posted door and stage timings on their Instagram account with an hour-by-hour breakdown of the evening, starting with the gates opening at 5pm. The night will kick off from 6pm with the rock band Cast, followed by singer Richard Ashcroft at 7pm. Oasis will then take the stage for a two-hour set at 8.15pm. The group kicked off their Oasis Live '25 world tour on July 4 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, receiving five star reviews from critics at The Guardian, The Telegraph and The Times. The group has also dominated the UK album charts, with three top five albums, according to the Official Charts Company. While fans were excited at the reunion, some were outraged after some standard tickets in the UK and Ireland jumped from £148 to £355. The controversy prompted the Government and the UK's competition watchdog to pledge to look at the use of dynamic pricing. After their final London gig on August 3, the group will move north to Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium before performing at Dublin's Croke Park. The band will then head to Japan, South Korea, South America, Australia and North America. Formed in Manchester in 1991, the band was led by lead guitarist Noel and lead vocalist Liam during their 18 years together. Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993, rising to fame with the release of their debut chart-topping album Definitely Maybe on August 29 1994. They had hits with songs including Don't Look Back In Anger, Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall and Live Forever. Dig Out Your Soul, the band's last studio album, was released in 2008, just months before the Paris row.

Ashcroft isn't the only support act. The second support act are 90s band Cast, led by former La's bassist John Power. The group, which first appeared on the music scene in 1992 and is well-known for songs like Walkaway, Finetime, and Flying, supported Liam on his Definitely Maybe 30 Years tour last year. Workshop demonstrates the power of sound on the mind

'How many of you would go to the moon today?' The question was posed to an audience gathered at the OASIS Senior Center last week by Karen Skipper, a music therapist who was there to lead a brain-stimulating social engagement workshop hosted by Alzheimer's Orange County as part of its Connect2Culture program. About half of the 40 adults in the room raised their hands in response to her query. A few minutes later, Skipper asked the group to name a song with the word 'moon' in it. Soon the words to 'Fly Me to the Moon' appeared on a screen and attendees joined in a singalong of the jazz standard that became associated with the Apollo moon missions after Frank Sinatra recorded it in 1964. The space-themed class was an interactive experience that combined music and historical facts. As Skipper explained when the Music for the Mind session was getting underway, everyone was there to use 'every single part' of their brains. Attendees were posed trivia questions related to space, including which U.S. president started the space program (John F. Kennedy), the name of the first person to walk on the moon (Neil Armstrong) and who was the oldest person to go into space (90-year-old actor William Shatner), among others. The combination of trivia quizzes paired with music about stars, comets and planets continued for the next hour as Skipper strummed her guitar and encouraged attendees to sing along. 'Music is such a great inroad for people with memory impairment,' said Kim Bailey, program and education specialist with Alzheimer's Orange County, adding that dance and art also elicit responses in Alzheimer's patients, especially those in later stages who rely on non-verbal communication. Bailey said the class was comprised of OASIS clients as well as some seniors who are living with Alzheimer's. 'All seniors are interested in brain stimulation classes,' said Bailey. 'They are helpful for everyone, including those without Alzheimers.' Skipper illustrated the power of using music to help anyone memorize facts. 'It's very effective and just a functional use of music assigning a tune to what you need to remember.' She used the example of her husband putting words to a familiar tune to remind him of what he needs to take to work in the morning. 'He sings, 'I'm glasses, wallet, keys and phone,' based on 'There is a Tavern in the Town.' 'It's another source and anybody can do that,' Skipper said. 'It's one more chunk of input to keep that information in your brain.' She also noted how music is a tool when children in school are taught to sing the 'ABC Song' to learn the alphabet. Sitting in the front row for the session were Newport Beach residents Charles and Wanda Stansbury, who enthusiastically took part in the trivia quizzes and singalongs. 'I thought it was fantastic the way our minds were tuned into the songs,' said Charles Stansbury. 'It was amazing, very stimulating and lots of fun,' said Wanda Stansbury. 'It was also very interactive and I need to come back again [when it's offered] in September.' Newport Beach resident Rayleen Creath's thoughts about the workshop echoed the Stansburys' take on it. 'It was fabulous, beautiful and brought our souls alive,' Creath said. 'I was blown away how many people knew the answers [to the triva questions]. I liked that it was gentle and I would come back and do it again.'
