Underrated attraction near Glasgow named one of the best

Glasgow Times03-05-2025
The spot was named alongside other lesser destinations across the country, including Woodchester Mansion in the Cotswolds and Johnny Wood and Borrowdale Yews in Cumbria.
Introducing its handpicked ranking, The Telegraph said that while the number of people coming to Britain's visitor attractions has skyrocketed in recent years, there are still places where you "don't need to shuffle shoulder-to-shoulder with the masses for a grand day out."
'Extraordinary' attraction 45 minutes from Glasgow named one of the best underrated places to visit
Jupiter Artland, which is just 45 minutes away from Glasgow by car, was named one of the best underrated attractions in the UK by The Telegraph.
Discussing the outdoor art gallery and pool, the publication said: "You'll find an entirely new perspective on modern art in this extraordinary sculpture park set in a wooded estate on the outskirts of Edinburgh.
"Moving around, on and through works of world-class artists like Anish Kapoor, Antony Gormley and Ian Hamilton Finlay is uniquely absorbing, with children (and adults) welcome to get up close, touch, even swim in a work of art in the Joana Vasconcelos Gateway Pool."
This wasn't the only Scottish place named with Kilmartin Glen in Argyll and Bute also being highlighted.

The newspaper said: "It's hard to find ruins quite as evocative as those of Kilmartin Glen on the west coast of Argyll.
"Begin by overlooking successive burial cairns from the roadside, then pass through fields of black-face sheep to a prehistoric collection of stone circles, cist chambers and henge monuments that are older than Stonehenge, older even than the Great Pyramid of Giza.
"Perhaps, though, the wooded glen's most wonderful feature isn't its extra layer of Neolithic or Bronze Age remains, or the rock art sites that are denser than anywhere else in Britain (there are more than 800 at the last count).
"The most magnificent attraction is that its stories are still being unearthed from the soil by archaeologists — and so much of this history is still waiting to be discovered."

Scottish folk-rock favourites Peat & Diesel have been confirmed as headliners for Edinburgh's Hogmanay Night Afore Hoolie. The Stornoway trio will kick off the capital's world-famous New Year celebrations with a 5,000 capacity open-air show in Princes Street Gardens on December 30. Trust us, you won't want to miss a single second when the island madness hits the capital.' The Night Afore Hoolie forms part of a four-day programme of events across the capital. Festivities begin on December 29 with the Torchlight Procession, as thousands of torchbearers illuminate Edinburgh's streets in a spectacular river of fire. The following days feature a mix of live music and traditional ceilidhs, including the Hogmanay Ceilidh and the Bairns Hogmanay Ceilidh at the Assembly Rooms. The celebrations culminate on December 31 with the Street Party and Concert in the Gardens, ringing in the New Year with fireworks and live entertainment, followed by free live music across Edinburgh on January 1. Margaret Graham, culture and communities convener at City of Edinburgh Council, said: 'The Night Afore Hoolie is a brilliant addition to this year's Hogmanay. With Peat & Diesel and RuMac, it promises to be a night full of Scottish spirit and fantastic live music.' Al Thomson, co-director of Edinburgh's Hogmanay, added: 'We're thrilled to bring the sound of the Western Isles to Princes Street Gardens. It's going to be a brilliant way to start the celebrations.' A Scottish family run luxury car rental and chauffeur business has received orders worth hundreds of thousands of pounds from the US government ahead of Donald Trump's visit to the country this weekend. It is understood a slew of lucrative orders placed with the Glasgow firm, Little's Chauffeur Drive, will secure a fleet of vehicles and drivers to accompany the vast presidential motorcade that is being brought to Scotland by the US Air Force. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The US State Department has made at least eight orders to the company since the beginning of July, according to an official database of US federal government spending records. Cumulatively, the delivery orders placed by the US government agency are worth $454,725 (approximately £335,850), with the single largest order, worth more than £90,000, placed on 13 July. The payments were made via the US Embassy in London. Donald Trump is set to return to Scotland, where he will meet with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and First Minister John Swinney. | Scotsman It is understood Mr Trump will arrive in Scotland at Prestwick airport on Friday, when he will depart Air Force One and make his way to Turnberry via a presidential motorcade that is being transported to Scotland. He will travel in a heavily armoured limousine known as 'The Beast'. A spokeswoman for the White House told The Scotsman that Mr Trump's visit was a 'working trip.' It is not clear if vice-president JD Vance will be accompanying him, but a large contingent of US government officials is expected alongside members of the US Secret Service. It is understood the car and driver hire orders placed with Little's will provide transport for that wider entourage. The company, based in Glasgow's Paisley Road West, has previously provided vehicle hire for UK politicians and is accustomed to transporting VIPs and celebrities around Scotland. But since Mr Trump was first elected to the White House, it has counted the US government among its most prized customers. During his first visit to Scotland as president in the summer of 2018, The Scotsman revealed how it received a flurry of delivery and purchase orders from the State Department worth around £850,000. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Since he first entered the White House during his first term, Mr Trump's Scottish firms have been paid hundreds of thousands of pounds by the US government. The transactions continued even when Mr Trump was voted out of office, with US freedom of information requests filed by The Scotsman detailing the ongoing payments. However, the official US government spending database has not disclosed any payments to Turnberry's parent firm, SLC Turnberry Limited, since 2019, when the State Department booked rooms in connection with a visit to Scotland by Mr Trump's son, Eric.
