‘Money, money, money': White House talks up ‘no tax on overtime' under Trump's pet bill that came under fire from Musk
Asserting that 'you keep what you earn,' under the proposed bill, it proclaimed: 'More hours = More cash. That's America First.' followed by emojis of an explosion and the American flag.
The White House captioned the post: 'Money, money, money, moneyyyy! Every overtime shift? TAX-FREE. Under President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill, YOU KEEP WHAT YOU EARN. More hours = More cash. That's America First. US.'
A post shared by The White House (@whitehouse)
The 'One Big Beautiful Bill' seeks to shake up several aspects of the US economy, according to the Trump administration, including via
Tax cuts: The bill promises permanent tax cuts, with a double-digit per cent decrease in tax bills
No tax on tips and overtime: Eliminates federal taxes on tips and overtime pay for workers
Tax relief for seniors: Slashes taxes on seniors' Social Security benefits
Medicaid changes: Removes illegal immigrants from taxpayer-funded Medicaid benefits; Prohibits Medicaid funding for gender transition procedures for minors.
Raises debt ceiling: It raises the upper limit on what the US government is allowed to borrow to keep itself running. The US government already runs a deficity.
Why the bill has sparked debate
The One Big Beautiful Bill has sparked intense debate and also ignited the infamous Trump-Musk feud. Days before exiting his role as a special government employee, Musk said he was 'disappointed' to see the bill.
'I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,' Musk said, while speaking to CBS News. 'I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful, but I don't know if it can be both,' he said.
Once outside the government setup, his criticism was more scathing, calling it a 'disgusting abomination'. He also called on the Americans to tell their representatives in Washington to 'kill the bill'. Trump soon turned his ire towards his once staunch ally, warning him of 'serious consequences' if the Tesla boss proceeded with plans to fund Democratic candidates.

Worker dies after being injured during US immigration raids on California farm
A farm worker died on Friday after being injured during a raid by US immigration agents on a legal cannabis farm in California that resulted in the arrests of 200 undocumented migrants and clashes with protestors. People gather outside of Glass House Farms, a day after an immigration raid on the facility, on Friday.(AP) President Donald Trump, meanwhile, called demonstrators involved in attacks on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents "slimeballs" and said they should be arrested. In another development, a district judge ordered a halt to "roving patrols" in Los Angeles by federal agents who were detaining suspected undocumented migrants without probable cause and denying them due process. District Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong ordered an end to the arrests, which she said were being made "based upon race alone," on whether a person was speaking Spanish or English with an accent or because of their place of work and ordered them stopped. Also read: ICE Vs California cannabis farm on cam: 100 migrants detained as national guard joins crackdown Trump's remarks and the court order come a day after a chaotic raid on a cannabis plantation in Ventura County some 56 miles (90 kilometers) from Los Angeles left one farm worker critically injured. The United Farm Workers labor union said in a post on X on Friday that the worker had "died of injuries they sustained as a result of yesterday's immigration enforcement action." Tricia McLaughlin, a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokeswoman, said the man who died was never in custody. "Although he was not being pursued by law enforcement, this individual climbed up to the roof of a green house and fell 30 feet (10 meters)," McLaughlin said. "(Customs and Border Patrol) immediately called a medivac to the scene to get him care as quickly as possible." The DHS said 200 undocumented migrants were arrested during raids on marijuana growing sites in Carpinteria and Camarillo on Thursday and 10 children were rescued "from potential exploitation, forced labor, and human trafficking." Glass House Brands, which owns the farms, said in a statement that it has "never knowingly violated applicable hiring practices and does not and has never employed minors." DHS said more than 500 "rioters" had attempted to disrupt the operation and four US citizens are facing charges for assaulting or resisting officers. Tear gas was used against the protestors, some of whom were seen in television footage throwing projectiles at law enforcement vehicles. The department said immigration agency vehicles were damaged and a $50,000 reward was being offered for the arrest of an individual who allegedly fired a gun at law enforcement officers. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he had watched footage of "thugs" throwing rocks and bricks at ICE vehicles, causing 'tremendous damage.' Trump said he was authorizing law enforcement officers who are "on the receiving end of thrown rocks, bricks, or any other form of assault, to stop their car, and arrest these SLIMEBALLS, using whatever means is necessary to do so." "I am giving Total Authorization for ICE to protect itself, just like they protect the Public," he said. Trump, who campaigned on a pledge to deport millions of migrants, has been involved in a showdown over immigration enforcement with Democratic-ruled California for weeks. The Republican president sent thousands of National Guard troops to Los Angeles last month to quell protests against roundups of undocumented migrants by federal agents. California Governor Gavin Newsom has said the troops were not necessary to address the mostly peaceful protests, but his legal efforts to have them removed have failed so far. The cannabis farm in Camarillo was calm during a visit by an AFP reporter on Friday as workers waited in line to collect their belongings and paychecks. "We've been here since six this morning asking questions but they're not giving us any information," said Saul Munoz, a 43-year-old Colombian whose son was detained on Thursday. "I just want to know how he's doing," Munoz said. "Bring him back to me and if it's time for us to leave, we'll leave. 'The truth is the American dream is no longer really the American dream.'

Matt Gaetz to replace Pam Bondi as AG? George Santos' X post sparks speculation
Calls for Attorney General Pam Bondi's resignation are intensifying following backlash over her handling of the Epstein case. A CNN report revealed that FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino is considering stepping down after a heated internal clash with Bondi over the matter. Rumors also suggest that FBI Chief Kash Patel may follow suit if Bongino resigns. George Santos has fueled rumors that Matt Gaetz could replace Pam Bondi.(Reuters) This internal upheaval comes days after the US Department of Justice and FBI concluded that convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein did not possess a so-called 'client list,' contradicting Bondi's earlier claims. She had previously stated on Fox News that such a list was 'on her desk.' George Santos fuels Matt Gaetz speculation Amid the chaos, a post on X by former Congressman George Santos has gone viral, sparking speculation that Rep. Matt Gaetz could be in line to replace Bondi, 'Matt Gaetz is MIA at Turning Points USA tonight! Something is in motion!' he wrote. The post quickly racked up thousands of comments. One person wrote, 'Gaetz as an interim would be awesome. That require no confirmation process. Once he has to leave, you could insert Ed Martin or any other number of people and just keep a good rotation in!' Another commented, "If Bondi had to resign could Gaetz be temporarily put in as "acting AG" without congressional approval?" A third person wrote, 'Now, that would be a dream come true. I just hope that Susie Wiles doesn't have a say in any decision that needs to be made on this.' When someone noted that the role requires Senate confirmation, Santos replied, 'Well he can serve 120 days as interim AG and that's enough to clear this mess up no?' Megyn Kelly and Tucker Carlson weigh in During Friday's Turning Point USA summit, Megyn Kelly directly blamed Bondi for the Epstein files debacle. 'I blame Pam Bondi!' she said. 'She has never missed an opportunity to go on TV and dangle sweet nothings.' Tucker Carlson, speaking at the same event, made headlines of his own, claiming Jeffrey Epstein was likely 'working on behalf' of Israel. "The real answer is, Jeffrey Epstein was working on behalf of intel services, probably not guy had direct connections to a foreign government. Nobody's allowed to say that foreign government is: Israel," he said.

AOC calls Trump a ‘rapist'; MAGA erupts, demands defamation lawsuit
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ignited a storm of controversy on Friday after directly referring to President Donald Trump as a 'rapist' in a social media post. The New York congresswoman suggested that Trump's presence in the White House had interfered with the Justice Department's handling of matters related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. MAGA is demanding a lawsuit after Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called Trump a 'rapist.'(Getty Images via AFP) 'Wow who would have thought that electing a rapist would have complicated the release of the Epstein Files?" she wrote on X. The post quickly went viral, garnering over 10 million views and sparking backlash from Trump supporters and conservative commentators. Many accused AOC of defamation, pointing out that Trump has not been criminally convicted of rape. Right-wing activist Laura Loomer responded, 'Donald Trump has not been criminally convicted of being a rapist. This is defamatory. And I hope you are sued by Trump for this the same way George Stephanopoulos was sued and forced to pay Trump $15 million dollars. I hope you have millions ready for Trump.' Another person wrote, 'If Trump is a rapist, then surely he was convicted of rape in a criminal court and you have evidence of that conviction right? If not, then this is defamation, and the ABC case that resulted in a $15M payment to Trump is precedent that puts you in legal jeopardy.' A third person commented, 'Donald Trump has not been criminally convicted of rape. As a congress woman, with such broad reach, you should be aware of this and act and speak appropriately. This is defamation.' Another person wrote, 'Do you think you are above the law? I hope you get sued for defamation.' In 2023, Trump was found civilly liable for sexually abusing writer E. Jean Carroll, but he was not found liable for rape and was never criminally charged in the case. AOC's post has drawn comparisons to ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, who faced a defamation lawsuit last year for referring to Trump using similar language. That case ended in a $15 million settlement. Epstein files update Earlier this week, the US Department of Justice and the FBI concluded that Jeffrey Epstein did not possess a so-called 'client list' implicating prominent individuals. The agencies also said Epstein died by suicide in a New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Following this, past statements from Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel resurfaced. In a February appearance on Fox News, Bondi claimed Epstein client list was 'on her desk', while Patel has repeatedly pushed conspiracy theories about the case.
