Citizens face inconvenience as AP Police Seva app down again

Vijayawada: AP Police Seva mobile application, once a key digital platform for lodging complaints, verifying social media news, and accessing a host of citizen services, is currently non-functional and has been removed from both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
The disruption began during the 2024 general elections and marks the second such outage—earlier seen during the arrest of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in September 2023.
Launched in September 2020, the app was designed to reduce physical visits to police stations by enabling online complaint registration, tracking case progress, paying challans, and availing other services. It offered 85 features, including requesting home surveillance during absence, background verification for employees or tenants, and real-time updates on public safety.
One of its standout components focused on women's safety, offering GPS-enabled alerts about high-risk areas based on geo-tagged crime data. The platform was widely praised for promoting citizen-friendly policing and bridging the gap between the police and the public.
The sudden unavailability of the app has forced citizens to revert to traditional methods of police interaction, slowing down grievance redressal and affecting transparency.

Speaking to TOI, CH Srikanth, inspector general of police, technical services, said, "The app is currently being upgraded with new services and is under testing via the Google Play Store. After over two weeks of testing, the app will go live to the public and will also be launched on iOS devices."
He added that in the meantime, citizens can access the services previously available on the app through the AP Government's WhatsApp governance number.

Abstinence from duty by presiding officer on strike call by bar assn illegal: HC
Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court has said abstinence from professional duty by presiding officers on a call given by the bar association was illegal and those officials who comply with such strike resolutions could face misconduct charges. While making these observations, Justice JJ Munir issued a show cause notice to the sub divisional magistrate (SDM), Koil, Aligarh for adjourning a case in pursuance of a resolution of the local bar association of Aligarh calling upon the lawyers to abstain from judicial work. "Accepting such a strike resolution may amount to misconduct on the part of the presiding officer and could invite a recommendation for disciplinary action, including removal from office," the court said in its order dated July 28. The case pertains to a restoration application filed by one Satyapal Singh before the SDM under section 38(2) of the UP Revenue Code, 2006. The case was adjourned on July 25, 2025, since the advocates were abstaining from work on that day and the matter was fixed for July 28. Ahmedabad: At first, it looked like a paperwork glitch. But a closer audit at a car dealership in Sola exposed a massive fraud: 68 used cars had been sold off under the table by insiders. The fraud, which spanned over three months, was allegedly masterminded by two employees who pocketed the proceeds, leaving the company with a loss of nearly Rs 10 crore. Sola police on Tuesday booked the two senior employees after the company's CEO lodged a complaint. The complainant stated that the company, which deals in new and used cars, discovered the fraud during an internal audit on July 23. "Of the missing vehicles, 53 had been officially purchased between April and July 24, 2025, but could not be traced in stock. An additional 15 cars, which were never bought had been sold to buyers under the company's name. However, the money was neither deposited into the company account nor paid to the original sellers," the FIR stated. Based on the complaint, Sola police registered charges of criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the two accused individuals, and any others who may be found involved during the investigation.
