March 8 - D'Marco Dunn scored a career-best 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the floor and Penn State closed its season with a stunning 86-75 upset of No. 12 Wisconsin in Big Ten play Saturday afternoon at Madison, Wis.
Yanic Konan Niederhauser produced 15 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots as Penn State (16-15, 6-14 Big Ten) snapped a 23-road game losing streak against the Badgers. The Nittany Lions' previous victory at Wisconsin was a 78-67 triumph on Jan. 26, 1995.
Zach Hicks had 14 points and seven rebounds for Penn State, which didn't qualify for the upcoming Big Ten tournament. Nick Kern and Freddie Dilione V added 12 points apiece and Ace Baldwin Jr. had nine assists and three steals for the Nittany Lions.
Steven Crowl and John Blackwell each scored 19 points for Wisconsin (23-8, 13-7), which blew a 13-point lead and missed a chance to clinch a double bye in the Big Ten tourney.
Jon Tonje added 13 points and seven rebounds but was just 2 of 13 from the field for the Badgers. Kamari McGee had 11 points for Wisconsin.
Penn State shot 56.4 percent from the field -- including 60 percent in the second half -- and made a stellar 11 of 19 3-point attempts.
Wisconsin made 36.2 percent of its shots, including 10 of 31 from behind the arc. The Badgers shot just 28.6 percent from the field in the second half.
Penn State trailed 40-27 late in the first half before scoring 18 of the next 23 points to tie the score at 45 on Dilione's trey early in the second half.
The Nittany Lions took their first lead at 48-47 on Baldwin's three-point play with 16:34 left.
The score was tied at 51 before Dunn's basket and two straight hoops by Kern gave Penn State a 57-51 lead with 11:18 remaining.
The Badgers answered with a 9-2 run to take a 60-59 edge with 8:52 left on Blackwell's short basket.
Penn State responded with a 10-2 push. Dunn capped it with a turnaround to give the Nittany Lions a 69-62 lead with 5:33 left.
Blackwell scored five straight points for Wisconsin to cut its deficit to two. But Dunn drained a trey to start an 11-4 push as Penn State took an 80-71 lead with under a minute to play.
Two free throws by Hicks pushed the lead to 11 with 18.9 seconds as Penn State closed it out.
McGee scored 10 first-half points as Wisconsin held a 40-35 halftime advantage.

Report: Packers CB Nate Hobbs (knee) out for preseason

August 5 - Green Bay Packers starting cornerback Nate Hobbs will miss the rest of training camp after weekend knee surgery, ESPN reported Tuesday. Hobbs, who signed a four-year, $48 million contract as a free agent in March, could be back for the Sept. 7 season opener against the visiting Detroit Lions. Hobbs, 26, underwent a procedure Saturday to repair a partial meniscus tear, per the report. He has not practiced since Thursday. He had been having a strong training camp, adding such a physical presence that coach Matt LaFleur had to ask him to save something for the regular season. "The thing you admire most about him is he's passionate about the game and he loves to compete," LaFleur said last month. "That's one of the reasons we went out and got him is he shows it. He's that consistently on a daily basis." He played his first four seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, who drafted him in the fifth round in 2021. He posted 281 tackles, 3.0 sacks, three interceptions and 19 passes defensed in 51 games (38 starts). With Hobbs sidelined, cornerbacks Carrington Valentine and recently signed Corey Ballentine could see more time on the outside opposite Keisean Nixon. --Field Level Media

Fans left split as ESPN hires TikTok star, 22, with 14 MILLION followers for new football coverage role

Football fans are divided after it was announced that ESPN will hire a recent college graduate with 14million followers to be a weekly contributor on College GameDay, Sunday NFL Countdown, and Monday Night Countdown. Katie Feeney, a social media influencer with a combined 14m followers across her TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube channels, has signed a deal with 'The Worldwide Leader in Sports' to focus on football-related content. Feeney, who just graduated from Penn State this past spring, will also have a starring role in the company's 'SportsCenter on Snapchat ' social media channel. The move, made public by ESPN's Adam Schefter has drawn significant criticism from core NFL fans due to the company letting go of major talent and journalists in 2025. Under the announcement one person wrote: 'This is why alternative networks, podcasts, and sports media brands are thriving. They are real and authentic. No football fan cares about "lifestyle" content.' Another post read: 'Talent means nothing in 2025 there are actors who can't get jobs because they don't have over 100k following on social media. ESPN firing talent left and right but NVM'. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Katie Feeney (@katiefeeneyy) Another user said: 'When my ten year old daughter knows more about ESPN personalities than me means it's probably time to sign off with the former worldwide leader in sports...' Another wrote: 'There should be a masterclass course to teach how NOT to run a sports media conglomerate.' Others pointed to the new hire as a sign of the times - especially in a world where social media success has begun to dwarf traditional media. One said: 'The reminders and notices I'm old, just keep coming in lol. Just where the world is headed…social media success gets you in regular media. My kid was working as an IG recruiter for an ad company, and it took me a while to even understand what that meant.' Feeney announced the news from the Get Up! studio in New York on her Instagram and received congratulations from sports media stars like Jenny Taft, Kay Adams, and Haley Cavinder among others. Feeney, a Maryland native and the daughter of a state's attorney, began posting to TikTok back when it was known as in 2015. Since then, the now 22-year-old has gained fame on the platform as well as on Snapchat and YouTube shorts. Most of her posts consist of sports, travel, and lifestyle content. She's previously worked as a social media correspondent for the Washington Commanders and at the White House with AKSM Media. Feeney graduated from Penn State in May with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. Part of the backlash Feeney received isn't directed at her hire per se, but the cut back of traditional journalists and shows at the company. Earlier this year, ESPN decided to stop producing 'Around the Horn' after over two decades on the air. ESPN has also parted ways with NBA analyst Jonathan Givony, longtime reporter Michele Steele, and SportsCenter anchor Stan Verrett who will leave at the end of the summer.

Texas makes history at No. 1 in college football's 2025 preseason poll

The Buckeyes received 20 first-place votes heading an almost equally crowded field of Big Ten contenders. The No. 1 vs No. 2 matchup in the season opener is unprecedented in the history of the coaches poll, and the hype leading up to the clash in Columbus will be as well. TOP 25: Complete preseason US LBM coaches poll Penn State, expected to be Ohio State's primary Big Ten challenger, is No. 3 with 14 top nods, giving the preseason poll three teams with double-digit first-place votes for the first time since 2012. Georgia, accustomed to high starting positions in recent years, will begin at No. 4 while claiming three No. 1 votes. Notre Dame, last season's runner-up, didn't pick up any firsts in preseason balloting but enters the campaign in good position at No. 5. The last two No. 1 votes went to Clemson, which will open at No. 6 overall. Oregon is No. 7, with Alabama, LSU and Miami (Fla.) rounding out the initial top 10. The Crimson Tide's ranking at No. 8 is the lowest in the preseason poll since the second season under Nick Saban in 2008. The SEC, in addition to its quartet ranked No. 9 or higher, has a total of nine teams in the Top 25, with a couple more just outside the poll. The Big Ten has six ranked squads in all. Those include No. 12 Illinois getting its highest starting spot since 1990, and last year's surprise playoff team Indiana opening at No. 19. The Big 12 has five teams ranked, albeit none higher than defending champion Arizona State at No. 11. The ACC placed its two favorites in the top 10 but only one other, No. 16 SMU, landed in the top 25. No. 25 Boise State is the lone representative of the Group of Five leagues to crack the poll.
