Tennis: French Open sensation Boisson withdraws injured from Montreal - Omni sports
"I (did) an echography this morning following the pain that I had on my left adductor during the tournament in Hamburg and it appears that I need a little bit more time to rest and heal it properly," world number 44 Boisson posted on social media.
"I am very disappointed to miss the @obnmontreal... It was not an easy decision but I always put my health as a priority."
The injury blow comes days after the 22-year-old backed up her performances at last month's French Open by winning her first tour-level event on the clay in Hamburg and breaking into the world's top 50.
Ranked 361st in the world before Roland Garros, Boisson created a sensation by reaching the semi-finals of the Grand Slam tournament, beating top 10 players Jessica Pegula and Mirra Andreeva in the process.
The Canadian Open has already seen a raft of big names withdraw from the women's and men's draws.
Aryna Sabalenka and Zheng Qinwen will both miss the WTA event in Montreal, while Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic will not be in ATP action in Toronto.
The Montreal tournament runs from July 27-August 7, and is one of the principal warm-up events ahead of the US Open on the hard courts of New York at the end of the summer.

Lionel Messi and Inter Miami team-mate Jordi Alba have been suspended after the duo skipped Major League Soccer's All-Star game earlier this week, the league said Friday. MLS said in a statement Messi and Alba would be unavailable for Saturday's clash against FC Cincinnati "due to their absence" at this week's All-Star showpiece. "Per league rules, any player who does not participate in the All-Star Game without prior approval from the league is ineligible to compete in their club's next match," the league said in a brief statement. Messi and Alba had both been selected to play for a combined MLS side in Wednesday's game against a team drawn from Mexico's Liga-MX as part of the league's All-Star break. However, both players withdrew from the showpiece early Wednesday for reasons that were not revealed. The 11th-hour snub left Messi and Alba both facing sanction. Under MLS rules, players selected for the All-Star game must participate unless they have a valid reason -- such as an injury -- not to do so. MLS commissioner Don Garber said Friday the league had been left with no choice but to suspend players from duty this weekend, describing the ruling as a "very difficult decision". "I know Lionel Messi loves this league," Garber said. "I don't think there's a player -- or anyone -- who has done more for Major League Soccer than Messi. I fully understand, respect, and admire his commitment to Inter Miami, and I respect his decision. "Unfortunately, we have a long-standing policy regarding participation in the All-Star Game, and we had to enforce it. It was a very difficult decision." Garber however said MLS would review its existing policy in future. "We're going to take a hard look at the policy moving forward," he said. "I'm committed to working with our players to determine how the rule should evolve." Speaking on Wednesday, Garber said the league should have known earlier about the no-show, but expressed some sympathy for the gruelling schedule faced by Messi in recent weeks. The 38-year-old Argentinian superstar has played nine games in 35 days and played 90 minutes in each game, including four games in the FIFA Club World Cup. "Miami's had a schedule that is unlike any other team," Garber said. "Most of our teams had a 10-day break. Miami hasn't. So, we have to manage through that as a league." Messi and Alba's participation in the game had been under a cloud after Miami coach Javier Mascherano indicated last weekend he would have preferred the duo to be excused from All-Star duties. "The players are called up. I'd prefer they rest, but it's not my decision," Mascherano said. Football players' union hits back at 'autocratic' FIFA, Infantino in fallout from CWC - World
The global football players' union hit back at FIFA and its president Gianni Infantino on Friday, saying their autocratic style of leadership was harming the rights of its members. 'Football needs responsible leadership, not emperors,' the FIFPRO network said after a meeting of 58 national player unions responded to FIFA pursuing its agenda with unofficial player representatives. 'It needs fewer autocratic monologues and more genuine, inclusive and transparent dialogue,' the union added. FIFA announced two weeks ago it reached a consensus on key issues after Infantino hosted a group of mostly non-recognized officials in New York ahead of the Club World Cup final. The latest rift between football's governing body and its players' unions flared while the European Commission in Brussels is considering a formal complaint against FIFA. It was filed by FIFPRO's European division and national leagues in Europe against FIFA's style of governance and decision-making. FIFPRO said FIFA's core agenda included an overloaded global match calendar with too many games for elite players, lack of physical and mental recovery periods and extreme playing conditions. Players at the month-long Club World Cup in the United States reported feeling dizzy and unwell in the heat of daytime games played to appeal to worldwide TV audiences. The 63-game tournament backed by Saudi Arabian money was lucrative for clubs, especially in Europe, though FIFA added it to the schedule without formally consulting players. The tournament, FIFPRO said, was 'celebrated by President Infantino despite being held under conditions that were extreme and inappropriate for any human being, demonstrating a troubling insensitivity to human rights, even when it concerns elite athletes. 'FIFPRO reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting the rights of men and women players — rights which are being seriously undermined by commercial policies imposed by its autocratic system of governance,' the Netherlands-based union said of FIFA. 'This is a model that puts the health of players at risk and sidelines those at the heart of the game,' FIFPRO said, adding it was 'unacceptable for an organization that claims global leadership to turn a blind eye to the basic needs of the players.' FIFA was approached for comment. FIFPRO has not had a formal working agreement with FIFA since the previous one expired in 2023. Ex-Italy Skipper Pirlo Appointed Boss Of Emirati Second-tier Club - World
Former Italy captain Andrea Pirlo has been appointed as United FC coach, the Emirati second-tier club United FC announced on Friday. The ex-AC Milan and Juventus midfielder has signed a two-year deal with the club, also known as Dubai United, who play in the UAE First Division League, one tier below the country's Pro League.
