Has Ayan Mukerji put 'Brahmastra' sequel on hold for Ranbir Kapoor's 'Dhoom 4'?
With WAR 2 nearing its release, all eyes are now on director Ayan Mukerji, to see what his next big film will be. The director, who has a bunch of interesting films lined up, has reportedly shuffled their release schedules.
According to the latest reports, Mukerji is reportedly shifting focus from the fantasy trilogy Brahmastra, to helm Dhoom 4, the highly anticipated reboot of the iconic action franchise. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the sequel to Brahmastra has hit a funding snag, prompting Ayan to prioritise Dhoom 4 instead.
With WAR 2 getting ready for its August 14, 2025 release, the director is now expected to head straight into pre-production for Dhoom 4 which will reportedly be a reboot of the franchise, with all new characters. Ranbir is rumoured to be playing a lead role in Dhoom 4, thus following in the footsteps of
John Abraham
, Hrithik Roshan, and Aamir Khan. Casting for other key roles, including the female lead, is said to be underway, with production expected to begin in April 2026.
The film is tentatively set for a 2027 theatrical release.
While fans had been eagerly awaiting Brahmastra Part Two: Dev, tthe report suggest that the sequel will now begin production only in 2027, with both the second and third instalments being shot back-to-back, in a style similar to Nitesh Tiwari's two-part Ramayana.
Though reports hint at creative differences and possible budgetary issues, nothing has been confirmed officially.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Ranbir is currently busy shooting for
Sanjay Leela Bhansali
's 'Love and War'. He also has 'Ramayana Part 2' in the pipeline and the action film 'Animal Park'.

Morning shows started slow with just 8.23 per cent occupancy, but numbers picked up by the afternoon, reaching 20.08 per cent. The evening shows saw a further boost, clocking in at 21.16 per cent. A part of the review of Maa by News18 read, 'The concept and story have substance, but the film lacked largely because of its style of storytelling. Besides, the film also has a lot of stereotypes that could have been done without. Besides the exaggeration that the palace had a almost 30-feet tall Kali maa's stone carved statue, the way people from Chandrapur talk in the film, everything seems to be a cliche that all the Bengalis would be running away from. It only gets disappointing to see Ronit Roy, who plays a vital part in the film, deliver all his Hindi dialogues with such a heavy Bengali accent. A lot would argue that it is not how people from Bengal speak when they talk in Hindi."
