Utnoor cops identify fake certificate scammers
Adilabad: Following a report published in The Hans India on April 28, highlighting how individuals secured army jobs using fake certificates centered around Islamnagar village in Ichoda Mandal, Adilabad district, the district police intensified an investigation. On Sunday, Utnoor ASP Kajal Singh IPS held a press meet to reveal the details. On June 25, police at Ichoda station discovered that a man identified as Sahani Suraj had submitted a fake residence certificate claiming to be from Islamnagar and secured a job in CISF.
However, verification revealed he was actually from Uttar Pradesh. Further investigation uncovered that nine other individuals from UP contacted locals in Ichoda to obtain Aadhaar and residence certificates, each paying Rs 1 lakh. Initially, Deepak Tiwari paid Rs 4,000 for a fake Aadhaar card. When the Panchayat Secretary refused to sign the residence certificate, former Sarpanch's husband Shaikh Fareed and Shaikh Khaleem forged the secretary's signature and applied through MeeSeva to obtain a fake certificate.
After Deepak secured the job, the remaining eight followed the same process.
Verification later confirmed that none of them were residents of Islamnagar. Despite this, Fareed and Khaleem created and provided fake documents to all of them. A total of Rs 9 lakh was collected, of which Rs 3 lakh was taken by the duo, and Rs 6 lakh was reportedly sent to Hurlik, UP. When Jadhav Gajanand, a local from Islamnagar, learned of the scam, he tried to extort money from them. In response, Fareed and Khaleem paid him ₹20,000. All three—Fareed, Khaleem, and Gajanand—were remanded on June 28.
ASP Kajal Singh IPS stated that the accused encouraged outsiders to use fake certificates to secure defense jobs and that they are currently employed. Further investigation is ongoing, and more details will be revealed soon.

New housing scam in Karnataka: Contractors get funds, but beneficiaries get work
A large-scale housing scam has come to light in Karnataka's Haveri district, where contractors allegedly received payments from the Housing Department for the construction of homes, but made beneficiaries build the structures themselves. This came to the fore during a recent meeting held with Haveri district in-charge Minister Shivanand Patil, who then ordered an official inquiry into the matter. The findings, accessed exclusively by India Today, are based on an official inspection report submitted to the Deputy Commissioner in May Housing Department, acting on behalf of the Karnataka Slum Development Board, had been tasked with constructing housing units in Haveri district under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Housing for All (PMAY-HFA) scheme. According to protocol, the department is meant to complete construction and hand over the homes to the Slum Development Board, which in turn allocates them to the inspection report submitted to the Deputy Commissioner in May 2025 reveals widespread irregularities across Savanur, Shiggaon, and Bankapur taluks. Many contractors reportedly informed beneficiaries that they would only be providing building materials and labour equivalent to 350 square feet, with the onus of actual construction falling on the beneficiaries. Even this support was only partially provided in many cases, with materials supplied only up to 50 per cent and labour charges left In Savanur, where 696 houses were sanctioned at a total cost of Rs 43.71 crore, 545 houses were completed while 151 were still in progress. Work began in October 2021 and was executed by M/s Nakshatra Infrastructure under contractor Selvi Shanmuga. Although Rs 28.97 crore has been released so far and Rs 10.54 crore disbursed to 527 beneficiaries under the Gruha Bhagya scheme, the report notes that many homes remain incomplete. During site inspections, officials found that plastering and electrical connections were still pending, and the actual construction was carried out by beneficiaries themselves with only partial Bankapur, 454 houses were sanctioned with an estimated cost of Rs 27.76 crore. Contractor G Chandregouda began work in October 2021. At the time of the inspection, only 100 houses were completed, 154 were still under construction, and 200 were pending due to site clearance issues. Financial progress stood at Rs 12.32 crore, of which Rs 7.57 crore had been released. Rs 3.74 crore was disbursed to 187 beneficiaries under Gruha Bhagya. Here too, the same pattern was reported: beneficiaries received partial material, no labour payment, and electricity was unavailable in several homes. Some beneficiaries had built homes beyond the approved size, reportedly without official had two packages of housing works. In the first package, 500 houses were sanctioned at a cost of Rs 26.54 crore, with work starting in July 2021 by contractor Krishnamurthy & Co. While 474 houses were completed and 26 remained in progress, only Rs 17.92 crore had been released out of a financial target of Rs 25.35 crore. Rs 3.42 crore was distributed to 171 beneficiaries. Here too, contractors were reportedly absent during inspections. Beneficiaries said they built the houses themselves with partial support and no labour cost provided. Despite construction, several homes had no electricity, with contractors unresponsive to the second package for Shiggaon, 350 houses were sanctioned with a budget of Rs 20.77 crore. Contractor TN Paramesh of Chair Ventures LLP began work in July 2021. As per the report, 160 houses were completed and 190 were in progress, with Rs 11.96 crore released and Rs 4.65 crore disbursed to 242 beneficiaries. The inspection found similar concerns: contractors were missing from the sites, beneficiaries reported incomplete support, and officials were informed on the spot of the lack of contractor the three taluks, the report identifies a consistent pattern of malpractice: contractors allegedly billed the full amount while providing only partial materials, failed to pay labour charges, and often remained absent or unresponsive. Beneficiaries were left to complete construction on their own, sometimes building beyond the approved area. Mehak Jaiswal topped the UP board Intermediate exam with 97.20 per cent marks while Class 10 topper Yash Pratap Singh secured 97.83 per cent marks. Pune Crime Files: how 2 alert cops foiled an ATM robbery midway, caught accused red-handed with gas cutters
On March 23 this year, a gang of robbers targeted the ATM kiosk of a public sector bank on the Dehu-Alandi Road in Pune. Using gas cutters to breach the cash dispenser machine at around 2.20 am, they fled with cash amounting to Rs 16.8 lakh. A coordinated probe launched subsequently looked into multiple angles, but the police could not achieve any breakthrough. Patrolling was intensified in areas closer to the Pune-Mumbai highway and meticulous efforts were taken to cultivate ground-level intelligence on such gangs. The breakthrough Around 1.50 am on May 26, a patrolling team from the Dehu Road police station zeroed in on a vehicle which was suspiciously parked close to some Automated Teller Machine (ATM) kiosks in the area, the police said. When beat marshals Samadhan Patavkar and Kiran Patil approached the car, the driver started the vehicle in haste and sped towards Alandi. The officers saw that two men were sitting in the car's front seats and a woman was in the back seat. The next moment, the two officers heard a metallic thud from inside an ATM kiosk. They immediately called for back-up and waited for an opportunity to enter the kiosk. They saw that there were two men inside the kiosk who were about to breach the cash dispenser machine with a gas cutter. As they spotted the cops, the two men started pelting stones and came charging. Fortunately, within moments, Joheb Shaikh, Assistant Inspector, and constable Sopan Valekar reached the spot. After a fistfight, the four police officers finally managed to overpower the two robbers. The suspects were identified as Mustafa Mobin Khan, 30, and Mustakim Mobin Khan, 25, residents of Pinangwan village in Haryana's Nuh district. The investigation revealed that they were members of a notorious gang of armed robbers led by one Yusuf Khan of Pinangwan. According to the police, preliminary probe revealed that the officers had caught the two just moments before they were about to breach the cash dispenser which had over Rs 15 lakh in it. Detailed investigation later revealed that the three accomplices who had fled in the car were Yusuf Khan's partner Seema Khan, 40, his brother Azad Khan, 45, and one Waris Khan, 20. The same gang was behind the robbery on the Dehu-Alandi road in March, the questioning of the suspects has revealed. A team of Dehu Road police is currently conducting a search to arrest the remaining gang members and their leader, who are said to have fled to their village in Haryana. Investigators detect pattern Multiple incidents have been reported previously in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad and surrounding areas where burglars have used gas cutters or explosives to breach ATM cash dispensers. Probe has revealed these incidents took place at kiosks with inadequate security measures. The series of such heists at ATMs, especially those located in the industrial areas in and around Pune, have revealed a pattern. Most of these heists have taken place in deserted areas during the night or early hours. Despite very clear guidelines from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and repeated communications from the police, banks and non-banking entities which manage ATMs kiosks fail to put adequate security cover in place, officers have observed. Taking note of aspects like inadequate security cover at the kiosks, the police have also charged bank officials concerned for 'abetting' these crimes by failing to take necessary measures to secure the ATMs, in some of the cases. Officers added that directives issued to banks and ATM managing entities are very elaborate. They pertain to alarm systems linked to cell phones of the bank officials, security cameras and their specifications, armed security guard deployment, lighting arrangements, location of the kiosk, monitoring of CCTV footage, construction of the kiosks and so on. In the ATMs that have been targeted, these directives were blatantly flouted, probe into recent cases has revealed.
