Patwari writes to Shah over Sanchi brand ‘decline' after merger with NDDB

Time of India08-06-2025
Bhopal: Congress state unit chief Jitu Patwari has written to Union home and cooperative minister Amit Shah, raising alarm over what he termed the rapid decline of the state's flagship dairy brand 'Sanchi' following its merger with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).

In a letter to Shah, he said the merger has neither benefited consumers of Sanchi products nor the farmers supplying milk to the MP State Cooperative Dairy Federation. He accused the state govt of neglecting the brand.
Patwari wrote at the time of merger, CM Mohan Yadav had announced that the share of MP in overall milk production of the country would be raised from 9 per cent to 20 per cent and "you, too, had given direction to the MP govt to take the target seriously".
The Congress leader, however, regretted that it has turned out to be an 'airy' target while the situation on the ground is just the opposite.
Patwari claimed that the milk collection by the federation has in fact declined. While the total milk collection from Indore was 94,496 Kg in 2023-24, it reduced to 85,438 Kg in 2024-25. Similarly, the sale of milk has also dipped from 1.56 lakh litre to 1.51 litre. The committees of milk producing farmers also reduced from 385 to 362.
The 'Sanchi Parlour' scheme, too, was in a bad shape as 257 applications for setting up a parlour are pending in Indore division itself. Only 57 of them have been accepted and only 31 have opened. In Indore city , 74 applications are pending and only 1 has been accepted.
The 'neglect' of Sanchi brand by the govt has "obliquely promoted the private milk brands and they have launched milk and several milk products in the market.

It's not only damaging the brand value of 'Sanchi' but also leading to 'exploitation' of milk-producing farmers", he said.
Patwari alleged that the milk-producing farmers in place of getting remunerative prices for the milk and becoming economically self-sufficient are being driven into economic crisis due to neglect by the state government and bureaucracy.
While stating that as cooperative minister, Shah was supposed to strengthen the cooperative bodies all over the country, Patwari said he should not "mutely see a historic cooperative movement like 'Sanchi' go to ruins".
He also suggested steps to the union cooperative minister to improve the 'Sanchi brand including formation of an independent panel to examine the actual state of affairs at MP Milk Federation, disposal of application for setting up of 'Sanchi' parlour all over the state in a time-bound manner, review the role of NDDB in collection of milk, its price determination and its distribution network and make the entire process transparent, the state government should be asked to explain why the milk production is not increasing despite announcement of the chief minister.
He urged the union cooperative minister to "save" Sanchi brand from decline in the overall interest of the country's cooperative movement.

Stickers without caste survey? CCTV captures Bengaluru civic body workers bypassing houses. Watch

A video shared by Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan has sparked a row after it showed officials from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) affixing caste survey stickers on houses without conducting any actual survey. The footage, shows BBMP workers bypassing homes and placing stickers arbitrarily. (X/@PCMohanMP) The footage, shows BBMP workers bypassing homes and placing stickers arbitrarily. Sharing the video on X, Mohan criticised the Congress-led state government, saying, 'In 2015, the Congress government spent ₹170 Cr on a caste census in Karnataka, then blamed dogs for its flaws. Now in Bengaluru, BBMP is pasting caste stickers without collecting any data. From dogs to data-less drama, Congress's idea of social justice is a comedy of errors.' Watch the video here: Three officials suspended On Wednesday, the BBMP suspended three officials revenue inspector Ramesh, tax collector Peddaraju, and assistant revenue officer C Senthil Kumar, for dereliction of duty in the ongoing caste census exercise for Scheduled Castes. According to the suspension order issued by BBMP East Zone Zonal Commissioner Snehal R on July 2, the officials failed to ensure that the enumerators completed the survey process before affixing stickers on homes. The instructions required that stickers be placed only after contacting residents, completing the enumeration, and uploading the collected data via a mobile application. However, it was found that in several cases, the stickers were affixed without any contact with homeowners, in violation of the protocol. In response to the criticism, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah defended the intent behind the exercise and urged the public not to panic. 'Is there any problem in applying online? We will do enumeration online, or approach door-to-door and in the camps. You just have to tell your caste using any of the three means. This is related to only the Scheduled Caste,' he told reporters according to PTI. The incident has triggered criticism from opposition leaders, who have accused the Congress government of mishandling the caste census despite the sensitive nature of the exercise and the significant public funds allocated to it. Kerala Congress member frowns on young leaders ditching khadi for modern look

Kerala Congress leader Ajay Tharayil has criticised the party's youth leaders in Kerala for abandoning 'khadar' (Malayalam word for khadi) in favour of colourful shirts, questioning why they are imitating the DYFI, the youth wing of the CPI(M).In a Facebook post, Tharayil, who's also a KPCC political affairs committee member wrote, 'Khadi is a message. It is the biggest weapon against capitalism. If anyone thought not wearing khadi is the new generation model, then it's like running away from the principles. Why are we imitating DYFI, the youth wing of CPI(M)?'advertisementHe added that khadi and secularism are the foundations of the Congress party. Tharayil's remarks come as several young party faces, including MPs Hibi Eden and Shafi Parambil and MLAs Rahul Mamkootathil and Mathew Kuzhalnadan, are often seen in colourful shirts rather than the traditional white 'khadar' to the criticism, former MLA K Sabarinadhan acknowledged Tharayil's point but defended the practicality of wearing coloured shirts.'I am not someone who is very strict about dressing. But to be honest, the white khadi dress cannot be seen as a symbol of the simplicity of Gandhian ideas now. One, it is difficult to wash and iron a khadi shirt at home like usual. But coloured shirts are easier. Two, the practicality of ironing five coloured shirts for the cost of dry-cleaning one khadi shirt is also of great value. So, whatever the dress is, the mind needs to be good, right?' he president Sunny Joseph also weighed in, saying that the youth are free to wear whatever they are comfortable with.- Ends IN THIS STORY#Kerala

Kerala oppn asks Veena George to resign over medical college collapse death

Several parts of Kerala on Friday witnessed protests by the opposition Congress, BJP and their various wings demanding Health Minister Veena George's resignation over the death of a woman in a building collapse at Kottayam Medical College. A 52-year-old woman, Bindu lost her life in the Kottayam medical college collapse on July 3.(ANI Video Grab) Bindu (52) died and three others -- Aleena (11), Amal Pradeep (20), and Jinu Saji (38) -- were injured in the incident on July 3. Protests were held in the state capital and other towns, including Kollam and Pathanamthitta, by the BJP and its youth wing, Yuva Morcha. At Thiruvananthapuram, a large number of BJP workers, including women, marched to the official residence of George, shouting slogans against her and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and chanting 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'. When the workers were blocked by the barricades set up by the police, the BJP activists tried to overturn the barricades and climbed on top of them waving party flags. They also snatched away some shields and lathis of the police personnel, prompting use of several rounds of water cannons against the protestors. The state capital also saw protests by the Congress's women's wing outside the minister's office and the youth wing of the Indian Union Muslim League, all seeking George's resignation. At Kollam, Yuva Morcha members protested at the District Hospital and shouted slogans after entering the superintendent's office, according to visuals on TV channels. The visuals also showed BJP workers protesting outside George's office at Pathanamthitta. At Pathanamthitta, Youth Congress activists carrying a coffin -- on which was written Kerala's Health Department -- marched to the family home of George there and shouted slogans demanding her resignation. At Kottayam, a large number of Youth Congress activists marched to the medical college and threw sticks at the police present there, according to visuals on TV channels. As the protestors climbed on top of the barricades, police used water cannons on them. At all places, police set up barricades to stop the protestors. Congress MLA from Palakkad Rahul Mamkootathil termed Bindu's death as "institutional murder" and alleged that George was the main person responsible for it. He also said that the probe being carried out by the District Collector was unacceptable as the Collector oversees the development of the medical college. The toilet complex adjacent to wards 10, 11, and 14 at Kottayam Government Medical College collapsed on Thursday while the hospital was in the process of fully shifting operations to the newly constructed surgical block. Following the incident, the Congress-led UDF opposition had alleged delays in launching the rescue operation and claimed that search efforts only began seriously after relatives of the missing woman raised concerns. Bindu from Thalayolaparambu in Kottayam district was pulled out from the debris more than two hours after the incident and was declared dead. She was there at the medical college as her daughter was awaiting surgery.
