Beloved Gogglebox star dead at 96 after health battle - as her last heartbreaking words before she died are revealed
Her granddaughter Isabelle Silbery announced the heartbreaking news on Instagram and shared Emmie's last words before she passed away.
'Our Emmie, waited for me to come home for one last snuggle. Her last words 'I'm ready to hang up now,' she wrote.
'She was 96, an orphan, a nurse, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, the oldest woman on TV, a great grandmother, an author and so much more. Thank you for loving her as much as we did and will forever. Have a big rest now- you deserve it. Xxxxx.'
It comes after Emmie left the popular show in 2022 following her dementia diagnosis.
During the 2023 season's premiere, the show paid tribute to Emmie's time on the show.
Emmie's iconic red chair was empty while her daughter Kerry and granddaughter Isabelle sat on their lounge.
'We love you Emmie and we hope you continue to enjoy the show,' said a voiceover, paying respect to the beloved cast member who starred on the show for 14 seasons.
Many viewers flocked to social media to share their tributes to Emmie, with one Tweeting: 'We'll miss you Emmie #GoggleboxAU.'
'Sad that Emmie is no longer on @GoggleboxAU. I hope she is receiving good care in the retirement village. #GoggleboxAU,' another said.
A third person wrote: 'Emmie will be dearly missed #GoggleboxAU.'
It comes after Isabelle and her mother spoke to The Project host Sarah Harris on Tuesday night, weeks after announcing Emmie would not be returning to Gogglebox due to her diagnosis.
Kerry said the 'hardest part' of Emmie's diagnosis was having to tell her mother, who has been moved to an aged care facility, that she wouldn't be appearing on the show anymore.
'She said why not, and we said you've got dementia and she said I'm perfectly alright, there's nothing wrong with me, I'm not ga-ga,' Kerry explained.
'This is real life. Emmie is no longer able to do the show, and we wanted to be really transparent about that and not have her disappear off the couch,' added Isabelle.
The pair insisted that they would be keeping the ornate red chair Emmie sat in on the show, in honour of her.
They also explained that they became aware of an issue when wise-cracking Emmie could no longer follow what was being said while they were filming an interview.
Isabelle then broke down in tears as she described the 'long goodbye' of losing someone to the neurological disorder.
'Sometimes I really wish that she'd just go, because she's not the same. It's just really hard,' she said.
Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe a range of progressive neurological disorders that impact memory, thinking and behaviour.
There are many types of dementia, of which Alzheimer's disease is the most common.
There is no cure for dementia, although medical intervention can slow its progression.
Earlier this month, the Silberys made the sad announcement Emmie would no longer be joining them on the Gogglebox couch due her condition.
'We've had to make an array of difficult decisions that are best for Emmie since her recent diagnosis of dementia,' Kerry told 10Play.
'Emmie has now happily settled into an aged-care facility right around the corner from both Isabelle and me.'
Isabelle said 'it's been a tough few months, but her grandmother is 'safe and happy'.
'It's been tough watching my grandma deteriorate before our eyes with dementia,' she wrote on Instagram.
'I've been supporting mum, who has all the weight on her shoulders as she makes some big decisions for Emmie's future.'
'The three of us have always maintained being real with each other and you all, even through family struggles and this is one of them.'
She went on to say she hopes 'this opens up the conversation about dementia'.
'What's best for her now is that she is safe and happy in permanent care just up the road, where we visit her every day,' she added.
'She's stepping back from Gogglebox as it just wouldn't be fair to her, and instead she will be enjoying her evening wine whilst watching us on the coach.'
She concluded: 'Rest assured, Emmie is still cracking jokes, still up for a cuddle and in blissful ignorance of her circumstance.'
The Silbery family has appeared on the four-time Logie Award-winning series since 2016, and during that time have shared many personal stories.

Nadia Bartel reveals new details about split with ex-husband and AFL star Jimmy in emotional interview: 'I was in a bad place'
Nadia Bartel has revealed 'the most intense experience' she had following her devastating split from AFL star Jimmy. The Aussie model, 40, who ended her marriage with her husband of five years in 2019, sat down with Bec Judd and Jess Roberts on their podcast Vain-ish, where she discussed her self-care regimen. Speaking to the podcast hosts, the Henne founder revealed that she turned to meditation and breathwork to 'recentre' herself in the wake of her divorce. 'I got into that after the split from my marriage,' she told Bec and Jess. Speaking of her breathwork journey, Nadia said that the recommendation came from a mate who 'knew I was struggling'. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. She turned to Jess and Bec, saying: 'I was in a bad place, as you guys knew.' Nadia's friend said that her brother had recently gone through a break-up too and had turned to breathwork as a means of therapy. 'When you're going through something, you're willing to do anything,' Nadia added about the experience. Despite saying she probably wouldn't have tried if she had Googled it beforehand, Nadia said the experience was 'incredible'. 'It was three hours of the most intense experience,' she said, adding that the instructor taught her how to get into a meditative state through breathing in and out. 'It was almost hard to do it. You're having all these intense thoughts when you're doing it,' she said. 'And then my whole body and fingers started cramping and tears were pouring... 'It was like an out-of-body' experience.' Nadia and Jimmy, who were once considered the glamour couple of the AFL, separated in 2019 after five years of marriage. The couple married back in 2014 and share two sons, Henley and Aston. Nadia said at the time: 'It's been a very difficult month for me and the boys.' 'My single focus now is to continue to protect, care for, and provide for my two beautiful boys as this is a personal matter. I am so thankful for my very supportive family and friends.' Jimmy, famous for his tenure with the Geelong Football Club, welcomed a baby girl with his now-girlfriend Amelia Shepperd on April 4, 2023. Nadia and former footballer Peter Dugmore went public with their relationship at the 2024 Australian Open tennis and the couple are still going strong.

The AFL's most eligible bachelor Bailey Smith joins Tinder - and he wants fans to hit him up for dates
Footy heartthrob Bailey Smith has officially joined Tinder - and he is keen for fans to join him on a double date. The Geelong midfielder, 25, broke the news via Instagram on Wednesday, and it is unlikely he will struggle for potential suitors. 'Guys, I've done it, I've joined Tinder,' Smith's clip began. 'They have just come out with a new Double Date feature. Basically, you match with other pairs and get thrown into a group chat. 'I've got a pretty busy schedule sometimes, so it's hard to get out there. Being able to hang out with a mate and also go on a date is pretty fun. 'I've got my best mate "Gorms", he's awesome, so come find us.' Smith is single after splitting from his glamorous girlfriend of two years Gemma Dawkins last year. They made their public debut as a couple at the 2023 Derby Day in Melbourne. He missed the entire 2024 season for the Western Bulldogs following an ACL injury before joining the Cats for this campaign. Smith has admitted he went off the rails when he was unable to play. 'When you have to sit with yourself and be your own source of entertainment, fulfillment, stimulation, that's when I had to look inward and realise, "S**t, I am pretty f***ed up and I need to sort my s**t out,' he told the Real Stuff podcast. 'I got into some bad ways going flat-out after my knee [injury] and getting on the p**s and being an idiot, which we all do, but that was my coping mechanism.' The code's most eligible bachelor was in hot water with the AFL after Geelong's win against his old side earlier this year. He raised eyebrows after talking about the possibility of celebrating a win with a few 'nose beers' - slang for cocaine - in a comment on Instagram. One follower asked Smith if he'd had 'nose beers after the game mate?'. Smith responded by writing 'na bro, after the flag maybe tho', with the comment coming after he admitted he was holding a bag containing a white powered drug in a photo that went viral after the 2021 season. That saw him get slammed by AFL CEO Andrew Dillon. 'We are talking with Geelong and talking with Bailey and we wouldn't want to see it again,' Dillon said. 'He delivered the comments, he put up an apology and I absolutely don't condone it. 'Drug use is a serious thing and shouldn't be joked about. 'If he has time again, I'm not sure he'd do it.'

The cast of The Castle don't look like this anymore! Stars of iconic film look unrecognisable in Today show segment
The Castle stars looked unrecognisable as they reunited on Wednesday, 28 years after the film hit Aussie screens in 1997. Stephen Curry, Michael Caton and Anthony Simcoe sat down with Nine's Today show on Wednesday to discuss their new gig - a partnership with Uber Green - while also reminiscing over the iconic '90s flick. The trio have all greyed since the film first premiered; however their humour hadn't changed a wink as they chatted to Richard Wilkins over a pint at The Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre in Marrickville. Caton and Curry also now sport salt and pepper bushy beards and moustaches. Looking back on the iconic Aussie film, the trio couldn't believe how the film was still so relevant after all this time, especially considering it only took 11 days to film. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'All those lines from the film have become such a part of the vernacular that the next generation of people coming through don't even know they're quoting the film,' Stephen, 49, revealed. Reflecting on the film's popularity 28 years on, Caton, 81, said that no one could've predicted the cult status it achieved. 'We all knew it was a great script. Great scripts have come and gone and the films have done nothing. This, this just surprised us all,' he said. Simcoe, now 56, chimed in, saying: 'When it took off, I was almost in disbelief about the impact that it had. 'I'd done a few films before that and usually it's your girlfriend, your mum and dad and your next door neighbour who sees it. 'And here, all of a sudden, you've got something that people not only watched at the time, but to have something that people remember 25-something years later...' The Castle recently made its way back into headlines after critics of the 1997 film linked its plot about a blue-collar family trying to save their home from being acquired by developers to Australia's current housing crisis. Taking to X, a critic slammed the beloved hit comedy that made household names Eric Bana, Michael Caton and Stephen Curry. 'The film that did irreparable damage to urban planning in Australia,' complained the keyboard warrior about the film that launched one-liners like: 'Tell 'em they're dreamin'.' The angry critic then explained that the film was 'a convergence towards self entitlement and hypocrisy, a surrender to urban sprawl and sitting on a motorway two hours a day.' Another joined in the strange pile-on against the film. '[1997] Literally when the housing boom took off. Coincidence?' they added on the X thread. Originally released in 1997, The Castle is a comedy about a blue collar family who battle with developers. The ultra-low-budget film went on to gross $11 million at the Australian box office. The film's creators Rob Sitch, Santo Cilauro, Tom Gleisner, and Jane Kennedy later made another comedy classic The Dish, in 2000.
