Nokia may be looking to license its brand to a new smartphone maker

GSM Arena5 hours ago
Nokia and HMD Global started to part ways last year, which included de-listing Nokia-branded phones from hmd.com and replacing most with corresponding HMD-branded models. But the Nokia brand may live on in the phone world if the Finnish company finds another partner.
On the Nokia sub-reddit, a Nokia Community Manager posted that the company is open to collaborating with a 'large scale mobile manufacturer'. Of course, the words of a social media account manager don't carry much weight and Reddit isn't the best place to find a smartphone ODM.
Nokia had licensed its brand in several different segments – Streamview made TVs, RichGo made headphones (and other smartphone accessories), OFF Global made laptops. As you can probably tell from the use of past tense, those branding deals have also come to an end.
HMD is not doing so well and recently announced that it will scale back its US operations. Nokia itself had to fend off rumors of trouble – last year, reports came out that Samsung was looking at acquiring Nokia's network business. The Finns were quick to deny those rumors, however, and we haven't heard anything about it since. Nokia will publish its Q2 2025 results on Thursday. In Q1, it reported an operating profit of €156 million on net sales of €4.39 billion.
Which company would you like to see pick up the Nokia brand for phones – one of the established players or another startup like HMD?

T-Mobile 5G users should expect a richer experience after rollout of new capability

T-Mobile has announced that its 5G Advanced network is getting even better with the rollout of the Low Latency, Low Loss, Scalable Throughput (L4S) capability reduce latency or delay, resulting in an improved real-time experience when using immersive applications. It cuts down on lag, making the network faster, while maintaining high throughput, or the amount of data transmitted. T-Mobile began its 5G deployment with a 5G Standalone (5G SA) network, which is purpose-built for 5G workstreams and doesn't piggyback on 4G infrastructure. Most other carriers still rely on 4G cores. This not only resulted in better speeds and greater capacity, but also allowed the company to launch 5G Advanced, which is an important step in 5G technology. This new category of 5G enables better network performance.L4S is a part of 5G Advanced. It improves responsiveness and minimizes packet loss or the loss of small data units. This is crucial for use cases where response time can make or break the experience, such as when gaming or attending an online meeting. More importantly, it can be potentially life-saving in scenarios where every millisecond counts, such as remote driving. L4S isn't a new tech, but T-Mobile is the first company to use it in wireless. It allows T-Mobile 's 5G network to be more proactive, which is incredibly important for time-critical applications like remote driving, for which the carrier has partnered with the Berlin-based Vay. The company develops remote driving technology, operating cars from different locations. Implementation of L4S will also allow for the fine-tuning of other experiences, such as Extended Reality (XR) and cloud gaming. T-Mobile notes that XR has the potential to change how we work and play, but it has been help back by jitter and delays. The company has partnered with Qualcomm and Ericsson to test the performance of slim smart glasses with L4S enabled. The result was clear visuals, better frame delivery or data transmission, and reduced motion sickness. T-Mobile concluded that L4S can help take XR mainstream. L4S can also improve cloud gaming by minimising interruptions. T-Mobile says NVIDIA has already enabled L4S support in GeForce NOW to reduce latency and packet loss during gameplay. This, along with T-Mobile 's 5G Advanced network, should allow for a console-level experience when cloud gaming, even during network congestion. The tech will also improve the quality of online meetings and calls by dynamically adjusting for network congestion. This will reduce stutters, frozen frames, and distorted audio. L4S will be foundational to T-Mobile 's network slicing framework. It will also enable the network to make smarter decisions and offer customized performance tiers for XR, gaming, video, and other latency-sensitive use cases. The company also plans to bring the capabilities to enterprise offerings to unlock lag-free experiences across industries. It has also teamed up with Apple and other companies to optimize how its app works. In short, L4S is a tech to improve video streaming. As T-Mobile 's president of technology, Ulf Ewaldsson, previously said, this video priority tech will create a better video experience for different apps. He explained that during times of overload, the network will send a message to the app to ask it to adapt to the condition to ensure the video keeps playing smoothly. This will be achieved by lowering video quality, which is better than buffering or freezing. —Ulf Ewaldsson, T-Mobile 's president of technology, October 2024 T-Mobile has once again proven that it's ahead of rivals when it comes to 5G advancements. The L4S tech will hopefully reduce content load time and ensure more responsive collaboration between users. This will especially help when a network is being used by many devices at once.

Motorola is reportedly bringing the Moto 360 Watch back this year with this familiar design

What feels like a throwback to the early days of Android smartwatches is now shaping up to what might be one of Motorola's most surprising moves of the year. The company is reportedly preparing to relaunch the Moto 360 in 2025, and newly leaked images offer an early look at the refreshed design. Originally launched in 2014, the Moto 360 was the first circular smartwatch to run Android Wear, though it had a distinctive "flat tire" cutout at the bottom of the screen. Motorola followed up with a second generation in 2015 before shelving the series in 2017. A third model appeared in 2021, but it was developed by eBuyNow, a Canadian company that licensed the Moto brand. That model ran Wear OS and offered updated internals in a familiar shell, as we previously reported. Now, the Moto 360 name is back again, and this time it looks like Motorola is handling the relaunch in-house. The 2025 version keeps the round display but adopts a more refined frame with a rotating crown at the 2 o'clock position and a secondary button at 4 o'clock. It's a setup that closely resembles the OnePlus Watch 3. Leaked renders of the 2025 version of the rumored Moto 360 watch. | Images credit — Android Headlines Interestingly, it also appears that Motorola is moving ahead with five color variants for this new model. The case appears to have a brushed metal finish and flatter lugs than the older eBuyNow version. That said, many questions remain—particularly around software. As with the Moto Watch Fit earlier this year, the new Moto 360 may not use Google's Wear OS at all. Instead, Motorola could be relying on its in-house Moto Watch OS, a real-time operating system (RTOS) designed for better efficiency and longer battery life. The company has used this approach before and could be considering a dual-OS setup, pairing Moto Watch OS with a light version of Wear OS for specific features. That said, the UI shown in the leaked images bears a close resemblance to Wear OS, which raises the possibility that Motorola may still be aiming for some level of compatibility with Google's ecosystem. While no launch date has been confirmed, the name suggests it could arrive later this year. If Motorola does bring the Moto 360 back with meaningful upgrades and thoughtful software integration, it may find a niche among users nostalgic for classic smartwatch designs. We will, of course, be keeping a close eye on how this model develops and whether it signals a broader return to form for Motorola's wearable lineup. I have noticed there seems to be quite a bit of interest in classic-looking watches, such as the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, signaling this could be a good move on Motorola's part to provide some competition in this space.

Google Pixel 10 leak hints at a bolder color shift and a missing favorite

We're still a few weeks out from the Pixel 10's expected debut, but a new leak has revealed what could be the phone's full set of color options. As per this report, the base model may launch in four colors: Obsidian, Indigo, Frost, and Limoncello. Obsidian is Google's long-running black finish and isn't going anywhere. The other three colors are more new and unique. Limoncello is a greenish yellow that's been rumored for months. Indigo looks like a darker version of Bay blue from the Pixel 7 series, while Frost appears to be a light blue with a subtle purple tone. So far, this leak only applies to the regular Pixel 10 . There's no word yet on what colors the Pixel 10 Pro or other variants might come in. Earlier reports we published at PhoneArena mentioned that the Pixel 10 Pro could launch in exclusive shades like Mojito and Licorice, which have yet to be confirmed. These reports also indicate that Google may use slightly different materials for each model, which could affect how the colors appear in person. Leaked (rumored) Google Pixel 10 base model colors. | Images credit — Android Headlines One surprise in this latest leak is the possible absence of Porcelain, Google's typical white or off-white color. It has been a mainstay of the Pixel series for years, and its omission this time may suggest a shift toward more colorful and expressive finishes. Another important point we've covered is how certain Pixel 10 colorways could be tied to specific storage options. Based on what we've seen, the base Pixel 10 might only come with 128GB of storage, while the Pixel 10 Pro is expected to offer up to 256GB or more. However, not all colors may be available in all configurations. For instance, Limoncello might be limited to one storage tier, which could influence how customers choose their model. With the launch expected in just a month from now on August 20, we can expect more leaks in the coming weeks. However, this early look at the color palette gives us another piece of the puzzle as we prepare for the Pixel 10 's official reveal which we will be covering in full right here.
