Guthikoya invasions worsen in Kothagudem

Kothagudem: The forest department is sounding the alarm over escalating threats posed by Guthikoya tribes who have migrated to the Kothagudem forests from Chhattisgarh. According to Forest Divisional Officer (FDO) Koteswara Rao, the settlers have not only encroached upon vast stretches of reserve forest land but have also repeatedly attacked forest officials trying to enforce the law.
'In Kothagudem division's Jaggaram compartment in the Ramavaram range, some 34 families destroyed 400 acres of reserve forest land for podu cultivation,' he claimed. Each tribe family reportedly had between 30 and 40 acres of property, and they were illegally residing in the forests.
'Despite repeated warnings over the past year, these families have continued to occupy and exploit forest lands, emboldened by political backing,' Rao said. The FDO bemoaned the fact that some political figures were supporting the Guthikoyas, which meant that politicians were also contributing to the destruction of valuable forests. The situation took a violent turn recently when forest personnel were attacked thrice in one month. Last week, nine individuals were booked for assaulting officials on duty.
In a bid to de-escalate tensions and promote awareness, the forest department organised educational programmes in tribal areas last week. Special meetings were held with Guthikoya families in Jaggaram and Palavagu habitations near
Musalivarre (E).
Awareness programmes on podu farming and forest preservation were held in tribal communities as part of the forest officials' attempts to inform the locals of the value of protecting these areas. During the session, FDO Koteswara Rao, Tahsildar Krishna, and CI Pratap jointly warned the tribes that anyone found cutting down trees or attacking forest staff would face arrest and imprisonment.
The officials said that the forests are not just government assets but ecological lifelines that must be protected for future generations.

Dictatorial rule in Andhra must end, says YSRCP leader after convoy attacked

Tanuku (Andhra Pradesh), July 24 (PTI) YSRCP leader Karumuri Nageswara Rao on Thursday slammed the TDP-led government in Andhra Pradesh calling it a 'dictatorial regime", following an attack on his convoy during a public campaign. Rao alleged that Janasena activists vandalised his vehicle near Tanuku Town Boys High School in West Godavari district during his 'Babu Surety – Cheating Guarantee" programme. 'The attackers behaved like psychos. If a former minister is unsafe, what about common people… this dictatorship should end," Rao told reporters in Tanuku. He alleged that the activists tore down posters of YSRCP chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and disrupted the event by waving Janasena party flags and the promotional posters of party chief and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan's film 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu'. The former minister demanded strict police action. Further he criticised Kalyan for ignoring Janasena party cadre and backing TDP. BJP welcomes new members from Makthal ahead of local body polls

Hyderabad: A large number of leaders and activists from the Makthal Assembly constituency in Mahabubnagar district formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, as part of a grassroots mobilisation effort ahead of the Panchayat Raj elections. BJP Telangana State President Ramchander Rao welcomed the new entrants by ceremonially presenting them with the party scarf, reinforcing the party's growing influence across regional strongholds. Addressing the occasion on Wednesday, Ramchander Rao stressed the importance of unity and hard work, saying, 'We should work with more enthusiasm to strengthen the party in the coming days.' He accused the Congress-led state government of misleading the public through misinformation and failing to resolve the issue of urea distribution, despite the Centre supplying 12.02 lakh metric tonnes against the required 9.5 lakh metric tonnes for Telangana's Rabi season. On the Urea Supply and State government allegations against the Centre, Rao highlighted administrative lapses that he claimed led to black marketing and artificial shortages, particularly in agricultural hubs like Makthal—dubbed the cotton seed bowl of the state. He blamed poor monitoring and mismanagement by the state agriculture department and alleged collusion between some Congress leaders and fertilizer dealers. Underscoring the party's strategy and commitments, he asserted that the BJP has a favourable atmosphere across the state. Rao urged party cadres from the ward to the ZPTC level to rally together in the coming elections. He reiterated the party's demand for 42 percent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) and criticized Congress leaders for opposing it. Looking ahead to his July 24 visit to Mahabubnagar district, Rao called for complete unity among BJP workers—both new and seasoned—to instill public confidence and lead the party to electoral success in the upcoming assembly elections.
