Purge Creator Wants Pete Davidson To Join The Horror Franchise, And I'm So In
Pete Davidson seems to be moving himself comfortable within the horror genre, and I'm all here for it. The comedian rose to fame as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, and has since ventured into not-as-comedic roles, and is particularly drawn to the horror genre. After his small part in Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, Davidson will soon be seen starring in The Home, a new film from the creator of The Purge. franchise, James DeMonaco, who revealed he actually wants Davidson to join the horror franchise, and there's technically precedence for it.
In a recent interview on The Julia Cunningham Show, franchise writer/director James DeMonaco opened up about directing his new film, The Home, as well as the enduring popularity of his Purge franchise. The filmmaker helmed the first three Purge movies, and will be responsible for writing the upcoming sixth Purge film. Apparently, he's even hoping to include his latest lead in the future project somehow, after the SNL alum expressed his own interest in the franchise over the years. DeMonaco revealed that Davidson's inclusion in The Home came from trying to get him in a Purge movie. He said:
Yeah. Well, I did pitch him The Home. We were trying to get him in The Purge though. That's funny you said that, Julia. We always wanted to kill him in The Purge. He would call me every Purge movie and say, 'Please kill me in this one. I want to die in the new Purge film.'
Hopefully this mutual interest leads to Davidson joining the franchise in whatever capacity possible. The comedian seems to have an interest dying on the big screen, considering his demise met in The Suicide Squad, and early death in Bodies, Bodies, Bodies. If he does die in Purge 6 however, I'm hoping he lasts longer in the runtime. He's a fascinating figure to watch on screen, infusing his sarcastic sense of humor into his characters. He'd be such a fun addition to the franchise, though I'd love to see his character play things out a little longer than just a quick pre-bludgeoning cameo.
For DeMonaco, The Home is yet another interesting insert in his filmography. The movie follows Max, played by Davidson, who while working at a retirement home realizes the residents may be concealing horrifying secrets. It's an unconventional setting for a horror movie, with an unconventional star at the center. However, DeMonaco has always seemed to have an interest in exploring unorthodox concepts in horror movies, so this feels like a strong expansion for his filmography. While fans may be looking towards another Purge film, hopefully they find something just as interesting and sinister in The Home that gets them to the movie theater.
Whether he ends up joining the Purge franchise or just sticks to this one DeMonaco collaboration, I'm loving this new phase in Davidson's career. Usually after starring on SNL, actors tend to go the straight comedy route, releasing hilarious films like Happy Gilmore, Anchorman, and Bridesmaids. While we absolutely adore these movies, I love when comedy stars try their hands at something different, and Davidson feels right at home in the horror genre. The Home has yet to be released, but he has already gotten creative with his choices, and I can't wait to see what doors this opens for the actor, especially if this means joining The Purge franchise.

A Haunted House Comes With a Body Count in This Free Found Footage Flick
Summerween is here, and horror fans are already queuing up their favorite horror films ahead of Halloween season. While blockbuster movies are always fun to rewatch, checking out lesser known cult classics can deliver solid scares, even without a massive budget. Found footage movies are especially adept at this, and there are some amazing options that won't cost a penny to watch. Hell House LLC is a found footage horror movie shot in a documentary format, and it's currently streaming for free on Tubi. It was released in 2015, and over the last decade, it's become a cult classic in the horror genre. I've been a fan of found footage horror movies since the original Blair Witch Project way back in 1999. Since then, I've inhaled every flick in the genre I can get my hands on. Hell House LLC delivers a creepy, dread-filled descent that avoids the pitfalls of the genre and sends chills up my spine every time I watch it. A haunt attraction goes terribly wrong in Hell House LLC. Cognetti Films The movie starts with mentions of a tragedy five years ago, when a haunt attraction, aptly named Hell House, went terribly wrong and left a trail of bodies behind. It uses a combination of interviews with witnesses and journalists and footage from the event itself to set the scene of the tragedy at the Abaddon Hotel, all through the lens of a local documentarian seeking the truth about what went wrong the night Hell House opened. Hell House LLC starts with how things ended, which means that as you watch everything happening, you know it's all going to end in tragedy. Before you meet the Hell House crew, you see the aftermath of the night that everything went wrong. From a panicked 911 call to a local videographer who sneaks into the abandoned hotel to take a look, the movie delivers plenty of questions to get into your head, but ultimately no answers. When local documentarian Diane Graves manages to score an interview with missing crew member Sara Havel, things begin to get interesting. Sara has been out of sight since the night everything went wrong, but she agrees to sit down and explain what happened -- not only on the night that Hell House opened its doors to guests but also in the weeks leading up to the tragedy. The rising dread as things get worse inside of the Abaddon Hotel makes this movie worth a watch. Cognetti Films When Sara arrives at the interview, she brings tapes that have never been seen before. They detail the experiences of the Hell House crew, from finding the house to running into supernatural occurrences before opening night. While things are initially a little campy with a pack of 20-somethings exploring the hotel and discussing their plans, things quickly begin to go south. The Abaddon Hotel has plenty of problems, and the crew plans to sleep there until the show finishes its run. The build-up to opening night makes the movie well worth its 90-minute runtime. Scenes are infused with dread as the audience anticipates something terrible coming that seems invisible to the characters. Doors open and slam, shadowy figures are caught on the edges of the camera, and as the tension rises, everything within the hotel becomes more unsettling. Sara and her friends aren't immune either, as they each begin to be affected by the house. It isn't until the official curtain-raising that things come to a head, but the terror that infuses each scene as you get closer to the haunt's kickoff will have you yelling at the characters on screen to just leave that place. Unfortunately for the Hell House staff, they proceed to opening night, which might be just what the scary things in the hotel have been waiting for. I won't spoil the third act when events ramp up from extremely creepy to blood-curdling. When things begin to go wrong, they go spectacularly wrong, resulting in the footage that the movie starts with. The interview between Sara and Diane ends with the truth of what happened that night, whether anyone will ever believe it or not. Hell House LLC has reached cult classic status for good reason, and it's one of those horror movies I play on repeat. The best part is that the story isn't one-and-done. Instead, there are already three sequels, with a fifth installment arriving this October on Shudder.

Why baseball's biggest game in 70 years is happening at a racetrack
Major League Baseball is getting creative to bring new fans into the game. The league's experimentation will result in a lot of firsts this weekend, with a special game hosted at an iconic NASCAR track in Tennessee. The event, dubbed the MLB Speedway Classic, will mark the first MLB game ever played in the state and it's already smashed a league attendance record, topping 85,000 tickets sold. The previous record of 84,587 was set during a 1954 New York Yankees game at Cleveland Stadium. Hosted at a pop-up baseball diamond elaborately built into Bristol Motor Speedway, the game will showcase the Atlanta Braves taking on the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday night. Everything about the event is designed to maximize hype, from a nostalgic first pitch featuring two Hall of Famers to accompanying performances from Tim McGraw, Pitbull and Jake Owen and a flurry of NASCAR-related brand activations. The Bristol game isn't the MLB's first special high profile event designed to open the game to potential new fans. Last year, the league introduced a tribute to Black baseball history with the East-West Classic, which returned last month to Birmingham, Alabama's historic Rickwood Field, former home of Willie Mays and the Negro Leagues' Black Barons. The MLB has also rewarded its Japanese fans and tapped into Shohei Ohtani fever by kicking off its regular season with a pair of games between the Dodgers and the Cubs played in Tokyo. The series set records as the most-watched MLB games in Japan's history. Once the most popular American sport, baseball has slumped in recent decades. Baseball's fanbase has stagnated compared to the explosive growth of the NFL. Younger viewers are looking beyond traditional sports for entertainment. Well aware of those trends, the MLB is mixing things up to get the sport growing again – including playing on converted NASCAR tracks. The league is also testing out robot umpires, giving star players the anime treatment and even changing up the rules altogether. The MLB introduced a set of tweaks over the last few years designed to speed up games. Foremost among them was a shorter pitch timer, but the league also made bases bigger to encourage steal attempts and widened runners' lanes. The barrage of small changes was designed to make the famously plodding sport faster and more dynamic, and the experiment seems to be working: Last year, the average duration of an MLB game dropped down to two hours, 36 minutes – 28 minutes shorter than the 2022 average, making for the quickest games since 1985. 'You have to continue to capture the next generation, or it is an existential threat to the sport,' MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred told the Los Angeles Times last year. 'As much as we love the thought that we are the national pastime, I think resting on your laurels is a really bad business strategy.'
