Iran helps India fly out 1,000 Students
In a notable move, Iran on Friday opened its airspace for India to facilitate the evacuation of around 1,000 students, making an exception amid the ongoing conflict with Israel.Tehran will operate three special flights on Friday night and Saturday from the city of Mashhad to New Delhi to bring back these Indian students, Iran's deputy envoy to India Mohammad Javad Hosseini said on Friday. These students have already been relocated from the capital Tehran to Mashhad via Qom.The Iranian airspace remains shut to most international flights following ongoing missile exchanges and drone attacks involving Israeli and Iranian forces.Asked if the US joins the conflict on the side of Israel, Hosseini said, "We are ready for any scenario..."We want every country to condemn the attack (on Iran), Including India"(Join our ETNRI WhatsApp channel for all the latest updates)The Indian government had earlier evacuated students from Iran's Urmia University, got them to cross over to Yerevan, Armenia, on Tuesday, and then flew them to New Delhi. At least 94 of the students were from Jammu and Kashmir, with the rest belonging to Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.On Thursday, India also decided to start evacuation operations for its citizens in Israel. In a statement, the government said under ' Operation Sindhu ", travel of these citizens will be facilitated through Israel's land borders and thereafter by air to India.The Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv is making arrangements for the evacuation. The embassy warned Indians to stay vigilant and strictly follow safety guidelines issued by Israeli authorities and the Home Front Command.

Iranian President Pezeshkian in Pakistan to strengthen bilateral ties
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Pakistan on Saturday (August 2, 2025) on a two-day state visit aimed at strengthening ties and increasing bilateral trade volume to $10 billion annually. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and other high-ranking government officials warmly received the Iranian President at Noor Khan Air Base. A 21-gun salute was also presented to the visiting dignitary. President Pezeshkian is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, senior ministers, and other high-ranking officials. Speaking before departure from Tehran, Mr. Pezeshkian said Iran and Pakistan have always maintained 'good, sincere, and deep relations' and plan to increase bilateral trade volume to $10 billion annually, Iran's state-run Press TV reported. 'Through Pakistan, we can connect to the Silk Road between China and Pakistan, and this road can connect to Europe through Iran,' he said. 'In Islamabad, Mr. Dar, who is also the foreign minister, met his Iranian counterpart Mr. Araghchi, and the two leaders discussed various issues,' state-run PTV said. 'The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Pakistan-Iran ties, with a focus on expanding cooperation in regional stability, trade, and economic collaboration. They also discussed enhancing bilateral engagement across key areas of mutual interest,' the Foreign Office (FO) said in a post on X. Main meetings of the Iranian president are scheduled for Sunday (August 3, 2025). President Pezeshkian will meet with Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Sharif. Earlier in the morning, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Federal Housing Minister Raiz Hussain Pirzada received Mr. Pezeshkian on arrival in Lahore, the Foreign Office (FO) said. During his brief stay in Lahore, he had a meeting with Nawaz Sharif. President Pezeshkian also visited the mausoleum of poet Allama Iqbal, who is still popular in Iran due to his Persian poetry. This marks Mr. Pezeshkian's first official visit to Pakistan as President of Iran. 'The visit is expected to further strengthen the brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran,' the FO added. Prime Minister Sharif had visited Iran on May 26.

Pune: Citizens to fast in solidarity with Gaza at JM Road today
To express solidarity with the people of Gaza and to 'demand an end to the genocide and starvation deaths of the people of Palestine', a group of citizens will fast outside Sambhaji Garden on Jungli Maharaj Road in Pune between 9am and 7pm on Sunday. The fast is being organised by Stree Mukti Andolan Sampark Samiti, National Alliance of People's Movements (NAPM), Pune Collective, DYFI, SFI, Nav Samajwadi Paryaya, Lokshahi Utsav Samiti, People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), and other organisations. Kiran Moghe, a member of the Stree Mukti Andolan Sampark Samiti, told The Indian Express, 'We believe that everyone globally has to stand with the people of Gaza. We need to draw attention to what is happening in Gaza even in our country. Traditionally, people in India have always stood with the people of Palestine.' At the United Nations Security Council on July 23, India's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish reiterated India's support for Palestine and said, 'India shares historic and strong ties with our Palestinian brothers and sisters. We have always stood by them and our commitment towards the Palestinian cause is unwavering. We were the first non-Arab country to recognize the State of Palestine.' Israel has come under heavy criticism for its war in Gaza, which has left over 60,000 dead, including 17,400 children, according to Palestinian authorities. However, Hungary ignored the arrest warrant when Netanyahu visited in April 2025.
