MyBorderPass app to simplify immigration for hajj pilgrims
The app is available for download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
The ministry, in a statement today, expressed confidence that this digital approach will not only enhance the efficiency of immigration operations but also improve the overall travel experience for Malaysian hajj pilgrims.
For the first time, the immigration clearance process for Malaysian pilgrims during the 2025 hajj season will be simplified through the Makkah Route initiative, using QR code autogates integrated with the MyBorderPass application.
'With this system, pilgrims will no longer need to present their passport books when passing through immigration checks at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
The ministry also highlighted that using QR codes allows pilgrims to check travel restrictions through the MyBorderPass app, with the immigration clearance process being much faster, taking only five to seven seconds, compared with the 15 to 25 seconds required with the conventional autogate method.
Additionally, the system enhances security and service efficiency by leveraging the latest technology, while also reducing the risk of leaks.
The first flight of Malaysian pilgrims to the Holy Land for the 2025 hajj season is scheduled for April 29.
A total of 632 hajj personnel were dispatched to Saudi Arabia in stages, starting yesterday, to prepare for the hajj season operations. They include 358 under the welfare delegation and 274 under the medical delegation.

Umrah agency's financial woes leave 42 Malaysian pilgrims stranded in Jeddah
KUALA LUMPUR: The failure of an umrah agency to purchase return flight tickets has left 42 Malaysian pilgrims stranded at a hotel in Jeddah after they were unable to fly home last night. As a result, the pilgrims have had to bear additional costs for accommodation, meals and transportation, believed to amount to several thousand ringgit. The group's umrah guide, Muhammad Abu Sufyan Mohd Mokhtar Rozaidi, said there had yet to be any positive development from the umrah agency managing the pilgrimage package. "Our return flight to Malaysia was scheduled for 10pm last night, but we could not board because there were no tickets. "We had to stay here (in Jeddah) with no assurance that we will be able to fly home tomorrow. "The person (representing the umrah agency) has not shown much effort to help, as promised, and I am still in contact with the chief executive officer (CEO) of the agency, but there has been no progress. "They simply informed us that the company's finances are unstable and this is worrying because most of the pilgrims are elderly, aged between 50 and 60. One of them is pregnant, and another requires dialysis treatment," he said. He also said that he was the only person from the agency present in Jeddah to manage the group. "I have previously served as a mutawif for this agency, but never experienced a case like this before. This is the first time something like this has happened. "Two days ago, the CEO said they were unable to purchase return tickets due to increased hotel costs. "They had promised to reschedule our return flight for either yesterday or today, but later informed us that they had no money to buy tickets and had to seek assistance from the Malaysian Consulate in Jeddah," he said. He added that officials from the Malaysian Embassy in Jeddah have also contacted and visited the stranded pilgrims. He also requested help from any party willing and able to assist them in returning to Malaysia as soon as possible. "I hope for some assistance from any parties that can help us get home soon," he said. Yesterday, Muhammad Abu Sufyan uploaded a video to social media highlighting the plight of the pilgrims stranded in Jeddah. He expressed hope that the video would be widely shared, prompting the relevant authorities to step in and resolve the matter.

Speaking at the launch of AirAsia's flight routes between Kuching, Kuala Lumpur and Pontianak, held in conjunction with the Sarawak Travel Fair 2025 at Ayani Megamall here yesterday, he said the reinstated services would not only boost tourism, but also strengthen economic and trade relations between the two countries. 'In addition to tourism, it will also facilitate access to educational and healthcare services in Malaysia, especially in Sarawak,' he said. Azizul added that the initiative aligns well with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, during which a wide range of tourism, education, and cultural programmes are expected to take place across the country. 'Last year alone, some 500,000 West Kalimantan residents entered Sarawak via land, while nearly 400,000 Malaysians travelled to West Kalimantan through the same means. 'This clearly demonstrates the strong tourism, education, and trade potential between Sarawak and West Kalimantan — a potential that will only grow stronger with improved flight connectivity,' he remarked. He noted that Sarawak and West Kalimantan share the longest land border between Malaysia and Indonesia, stretching approximately 900 kilometres. 'West Kalimantan is the only Indonesian province with the highest number of land entry points into Malaysia. These include the Tebedu–Entikong, Biawak–Aruk, and Lubok Antu–Nanga Badau crossings,' he said. Meanwhile, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) marketing director Barbara Benjamin Atan said the Sarawak Travel Fair 2025, held from July 25 to 27, aims to promote tourism, healthcare, and education ties between Sarawak and West Kalimantan. Joint venture to boost BIMP-EAGA green growth and regional trade
Dr Raymond Alfred KOTA KINABALU (July 27): In a landmark move to strengthen economic integration within the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA), BEBC Malaysia, BEBC PEDCO, and the Municipality of Narra in Palawan, Philippines, have announced a strategic joint venture programme covering renewable energy, agri-industrial development, fuel management, maritime trade, and regional tourism. The collaboration aims to unlock new opportunities for transboundary cooperation and sustainable development, aligning with both countries' commitment to climate resilience, food security and inclusive growth. Seven key focus areas of the joint venture programme: 1. Renewable Energy Grid Integration – Installation of solar energy systems across all municipal buildings in Narra to promote energy efficiency and green transition. 2. Development of a Renewable Power Plant (2025–2030) – A proposed mid-scale renewable energy facility to meet future energy demand sustainably. 3. Petrol and Diesel Supply Chain Management – Enhancing fuel access and operational logistics for municipal and agricultural use. 4. Fertilizer Trading and Agro-Industrial Support – Supply of affordable, high-quality fertilizers to bolster Narra's farming sector. 5. Floating Market & Ship-to-Ship (STS) Infrastructure – Establishment of a new trading route between Banggi (Sabah) and Buliluyan Port (Palawan) to revive barter trade and small-scale maritime commerce. 6. On behalf of BEBC Malaysia, its Sabah chairman, Dr Raymond Alfred, will provide the technical papers to potential investors and will engage with relevant Malaysian state and federal agencies to ensure the success of these transboundary programmes. He noted the challenges faced in activating the Kudat–Brooke's Point ferry service and praised the alternative idea proposed by Tan Sri Pandikar Amin, Special Envoy of Sabah to BIMP-EAGA, to operationalize the more feasible Banggi–Buliluyan route. This joint initiative demonstrates the shared commitment of Malaysia and the Philippines to regional integration, climate-smart development, and the empowerment of local communities in the BIMP-EAGA growth area. It is expected to serve as a replicable model for other border regions seeking to enhance connectivity and mutual prosperity through practical, people-centered cooperation.
