Henry Golding Reveals ‘Crazy Rich Asians' Series Could Drop Next Year: ‘Aiming for Like First Quarter'

Yahoo2 days ago
'Crazy Rich Asians' fans have been waiting patiently for a sequel to the hit film since its 2018 release. With follow-ups to the original novel by Kevin Kwan already ripe for adaptation — 2015's 'China Rich Girlfriend,' 2017's 'Rich People Problems' and 2024's 'Lies and Weddings' — and the massive return on its investment Warner Bros. enjoyed, it even feels inevitable. In 2022, it was reported that the sequel was officially on the way after replacing original co-writers Adele Lim and Peter Chiarelli. But it's seven years later… and nothing.
Earlier this year, however, it was reported that a television series was in development for HBO Max with Lim back on board as the showrunner and director John M. Chu as executive producer. Lim has become a Hollywood powerhouse since her 'Crazy Rich' success, writing the Oscar-nominated 'Raya and the Last Dragon' and moving into the directing sphere with the acclaimed 'Joy Ride' and the upcoming 'Princess Diaries' sequel. Chu, of course, directed something called 'Wicked' last year — and that apparently has a sequel coming out this November.

Now, Henry Golding has addressed the 'Crazy Rich Asians' series development, the first indication of the original casts' participation.
'Something's being made,' Golding told Andy Cohn on 'Watch What Happens Live.' 'I think we're actually going to do a series. That's what they're trying to give us. Aiming for like first quarter, even, next year.'
This also is the first establishment of a potential timeline for the series. Golding revealed that there's already stories written for the show, though he himself has not yet seen them.
'There are scripts hanging around but they haven't been passed on yet. I haven't read anything, but I hear it's promising,' he said.
Whether or not the rest of the cast would return for the series is unclear. Since its release, Michelle Yeoh appeared in 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' and won an Oscar, in addition to also playing a pivotal role in 'Wicked.' Constance Wu voiced Daphne in 'Velma,' appeared with Bill Murray in 'The Friend,' has had several prominent stage roles, and released a best-selling autobiography. Awkwafina has been very, very busy, appearing in three films in 2024 alone.
Golding will appear with Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman in Netflix's 'The Old Guard 2,' which drops on the platform July 2, the same day the finale of his Hulu series 'Nine Perfect Strangers' drops.

Nicole Scherzinger stuns in zebra-print string bikini for 47th birthday beach celebration

Nicole Scherzinger flaunted her sculpted physique in a zebra-print string bikini as she celebrated her 47th birthday. On Wednesday, the former Pussycat Dolls singer marked her birthday by sharing two Instagram videos in which she was seen striking various poses and frolicking on a rocky beach. "46 you were Golden!" Scherzinger wrote in the post of one clip, adding a sparkle emoji. "The Masked Singer" alum's two-piece featured a triangle top and a thong bottom. Scherzinger wore her hair down in loose waves and accessorized with a wide-brimmed straw hat. "POV: People born in 2000 are turning 25 … and so am I," she wrote over the first video. The TV personality was seen walking toward the camera, leaning against a rock with her arms spread and bending over to strike a pose. At the end of the clip, Scherzinger walked toward the camera as she winked and blew a kiss before twirling into the waves. In Scherzinger's second video, she was seen meditating while sitting in the sand and doing yoga poses on a rock at the shoreline. "Reflecting with deep gratitude as another year rises on the horizon. So grateful for every breath, for every sunrise and sunset. Thank you God for another year," she wrote over the clip. "POV: Another year around the sun." the Hawaii native wrote in the caption, with emojis of a sun and a blue heart. Scherzinger's beach getaway came after she won her first Tony Award for her performance of Norma Desmond in the Broadway musical "Sunset Boulevard." At the award show's 78th annual ceremony in June, the singer received the accolade for best actress in a musical, triumphing over fellow nominees Megan Hilty, Audra McDonald, Jennifer Simardd and Jasmine Amy Rogers. "Growing up, I always felt like I didn't belong, but you all have made me feel like I belong, and I have come home at last," Scherzinger said through tears while accepting her award. "So if there's anyone out there who feels like they don't belong or your time hasn't come, don't give up. Just keep on giving and giving, because the world needs your love and your life now more than ever. This is a testament that love always wins." During her acceptance speech, Scherzinger also thanked her fiancé, Thom Evans, sharing that the former Scottish rugby player "believes in me when I forget to believe in myself." Scherzinger and Evans announced their engagement in June 2023 after meeting on the set of "The X Factor: Celebrity." In the British spinoff of the American reality series "The X Factor," Scherzinger served on the judging panel alongside Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh, while Evans competed on the show as a member of the group Try Star with fellow members Levi Davis and Ben Foden.

Mandatory Credit: Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports New York Giants fans have been buzzing with excitement over the last week following some intriguing comments from former superstar Odell Beckham Jr. During an appearance on a panel at Fanatics Fest, Beckham was asked if he would re-sign with the Giants this offseason. His simple response, 'I got you,' went viral on social media, leading fans to believe a reunion was on the horizon. Advertisement However, one insider believes such a reunion is unlikely to take place. Giants reportedly 'unlikely' to sign Odell Beckham Jr. ESPN's Giants insider Jordan Raanan recently answered some questions about the team on his podcast, 'Breaking Big Blue,' and gave some insight on the Giants' interest in reuniting with Beckham. Credit: Danielle Parhizkaran / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images 'Odell Beckham Jr. made some comments at Fanatics Fest about maybe coming back to the Giants. I talked to people, there's nothing brewing there,' Raanan said. 'It's unlikely to happen. I would not expect Odell Beckham Jr. to be a Giant again. 'Maybe somewhere along the line, he retires a one-day contract to retire a Giant… I don't see, based on talking to people, that Odell Beckham coming back to the Giants this year is something that's realistic and makes a ton of sense.' Advertisement Not only were Giants fans, but even some Giants players were engaged in the initial rumors surrounding Beckham. Several stars, such as Malik Nabers, Brian Burns, and rookie Abdul Carter, made comments on social media expressing their interest in Beckham donning the Blue and Red once more. But ultimately, it doesn't seem like Beckham will be back with Big Blue in 2025. What could Beckham provide in 2025? In 2024, Beckham was largely ineffective. He appeared in nine games with the Miami Dolphins, making zero starts and totaling only 55 yards on nine receptions. Credit: Sam Navarro-Imagn Images If the Giants were to sign Beckham this summer, he would be unlikely to play a major role in the offense and could even be viewed as just a training camp body. Advertisement Adding depth is a crucial step in the summer. As training camp and preseason intensify, the Giants will want to be vigilant in adding more talent to their roster. Perhaps Beckham could become more of an option down the line. Related Headlines

Oklahoma City radio DJ retires after 26 years on KJ103

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — She's the voice of your morning drive, a staple in Oklahoma City radio for a quarter century. 'Janet' from KJ103 will sign off the airwaves for the last time Monday. She is retiring from radio. Janet has been on the radio for 26 years; often a dose of real talk first thing in the morning, honest, hilarious; she is the heart and soul of the famous trio 'TJ, Janet, and J-Rod.' Dolly Parton's first Nashville hotel set to open in 2026 'She's the filter of our show,' TJ said. 'Like we don't do anything without running it through the Janet filter because she's just got so much more of a voice of reason than we have.' 'She will tell you her opinion,' said J-Rod. 'That's awesome because most people don't. They bottle up, and they sit on it and they stew, and she's like, she'll tell you. That's what I love the most.' These three DJs have been together since 2003, an incredible accomplishment in a fickle industry. 'It's surprising in radio for a team to be together this long. Shows are together for that long, but usually one person leaves or whatever. But for us to be together as long as we have, gosh, it's more than I ever could ask for in radio,' said TJ. KJ103 is her first and last radio job. She will miss her partners, the concerts, the summer fest broadcasts, and she will miss the listeners. Oklahomans have shown her love and grace for so many years. 'I think that's one of the things I really appreciate about our listeners. They have always allowed me to to say what I was going to say, even if they didn't agree with me,' Janet said. 'One of our listeners said recently, 'Thank you for giving me a safe place to always voice my opinion.' And I thought, I was able to give them a safe space because that's what they always gave to me.' That bond, between listener and DJ, prompted Janet to share her own health crisis publicly several years ago. In 2018, she was diagnosed with skin cancer on her face. Even though the treatment was temporarily disfiguring, Janet shared everything with her fans. 'People are looking at me like I'm a freak,' Oklahoma DJ tears up about skin cancer scare Many Oklahomans got their own skin cancer check-up because she was so forthcoming with her journey. 'I think that is really one of the things that made people say, 'Wow, she's just like us.' You're willing to be so open and be seen on TV with all that that's going on. It was hideous. I see it now, and I'm like, why did I not hide forever?' Janet remembers. 'I really did that to show other people who were going through that same reconstruction that, hey, it's okay. It's okay. But the love and support I got. It was awesome and I didn't expect to receive that in return. That was quite a blessing.' She is retiring from radio to pursue a new career as a clinical mental health counselor, specializing in first-responder trauma. 'My husband and my son are first responders, and so I know the struggle that comes with working tough calls,' Janet said. 'My husband's been a firefighter for 18 years, and so I've witnessed that. I love radio. I do. I love radio, but I love first responders a little more.' KJ103 will announce Janet's replacement soon. In the meantime, she will sign off with gratitude for two decades of growth and laughter, hoards of special moments, inside jokes and treasured memories. We are all lucky to have had the chance to listen in for so long. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
