Reward for reporting waste dumping gets heftier
As per an order issued by the department on Thursday, those who report such cases will get one-fourth of the fine amount imposed. The government has decided to remove the current maximum limit of ₹2,500.
Minister for Local Self-Governments M.B. Rajesh said in a press release on Friday that with the revised order, those who report serious crimes with evidence will get a higher reward. He directed the local self-government institutions to ensure that everyone who provides information with evidence gets a reward. Haritha Karma Sena members, National Service Scheme volunteers, Student Police Cadets, and college students will also be made part of this monitoring system.
More complaints are being received on the WhatsApp number 9446700800. A special control room has been set up in the Principal Directorate of the LSGD to monitor this properly and take action. So far, 8,674 complaints regarding garbage dumping in public places have been received through the WhatsApp number. Out of this, 5,361 complaints received with accurate information have been accepted. In 4,525 cases, action has been taken, including removing the garbage (84.41%). In 439 cases received with details and evidence of the garbage dumpers, a fine of ₹33.5 lakh has been imposed. Prosecution proceedings have also been initiated against 31 people based on the information received through WhatsApp. The highest number of complaints is reported from Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram districts. The least is in Wayanad district.
Individuals and institutions are currently fined up to ₹5,000 for dumping or burning waste. Those who discharge sewage into public places or waterbodies are liable to a fine of ₹5,000 to ₹50,000. Dumping waste in waterbodies is an offence punishable by a fine of ₹10,000 to ₹50,000 and imprisonment of six months to one year. The penalty for selling banned plastic is a fine of ₹10,000 to ₹50,000. Illegal transportation of waste or septage in vehicles will result in action including confiscation of the vehicle.

"After the victim went to Ajmer with the pictures, the accused allegedly posted these images in the WhatsApp accounts of her father and brother," the FIR stated. Police booked the accused under sections 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, and the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013.

Protest posters on WhatsApp:Case registered in Bantwal
Bantwal: The Bantwal Town Police have booked a case against members of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) for allegedly circulating protest posters via WhatsApp even after their request to hold a public meeting was denied. The protest was planned at Kaikamba Junction in connection with the murder cases of Abdul Rahiman and the Ashraf Wayanad group. SDPI member Ashraf Talapady and two others had approached police authorities seeking permission to use loudspeakers and for adequate security arrangements. Police officials stated that permission was denied after the petitioners admitted they had no substantial evidence or information about government compensation or the accused in the related cases, which are currently under investigation at Bantwal and Mangaluru Rural Police Stations. Despite being informed about the rejection and the appropriate legal route to address their concerns, posters about the planned gathering were allegedly circulated on WhatsApp. This led to the registration of a fresh case at the Bantwal Town Police Station. Police said further legal action will be taken based on the developments.

‘Objectionable' WhatsApp Status On Akhilesh Yadav Gets Six UP Cops Suspended
Last Updated: The cops were suspended within 24 hours since the receipt of complaint by the Samajwadi Party, the officials said. A WhatsApp status having 'objectionable" comments on Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav has resulted in the suspension of six police personnel in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad. The action was taken against all six constables, including the one who originally posted it and others who propagated the remarks further. The original post was made by Constable Pradeep Thakur, who is posted in Shikohabad. The Samajwadi Party filed an official complaint over the matter after the comments went viral on Facebook and WhatsApp, after which the police swung into action and suspended the constables within 24 hours. As the post went viral, Samajwadi Party district unit chief, Shivraj Singh Yadav, met with the Firozabad police chief. The official ordered an investigation by the respective area in charge, Hindustan Times reported. Within 24 hours, by Friday afternoon, area police officer Chanchal Tyagi confirmed that the allegations were true. He identified five other constables—head constable Kuldeep and constables Rahul, Amit, Arun, and Saurabh—for helping the post go viral. Akhilesh Yadav is a former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and a sitting MP from Kannauj. He is also the leader of his party in the Lok Sabha.
