FORMER Premier League star Tommy Widdrington celebrated triumph at Wembley as his Aldershot Town side beat Spennymoor 3-0 in the FA Trophy final.

The ex-Southampton ace recovered from two strokes suffered at the end of last year to stand at the home of football and lift the Cup with the National League outfit, winning their first trophy since 2008.
Widdrington told BBC Sport: "There is not a prouder person in this stadium, I'm very appreciative of the support I've had during my health problems and the people of Aldershot have been incredible.
"To finish the year I had with this moment is great, this final is the best of the teams outside the top four divisions, it's no mean feat to win this.
"I'm made up for the lads and Wembley is about winning, if you don't win it then it has to be the worst feeling in the world, the players have their names in the history books of the club, I'm delighted."

Goalscorer Barrett added to the broadcaster that the team would "party hard" and reserved special praise to the manager and the fans.
He called on the owners to back Widdrington with some money to make them "a League Two team in no time".
The 26-year-old said: "It's crazy, I can't believe these scenes.
"We didn't really execute the game plan in the first half but in the second half we dominated, that finish was one I knew was coming, I always try things and that's who I am.

Chelsea striker Liam Delap's influencer girlfriend confirms split from the Blues' new £30m star after year-long relationship

Liam Delap's now-ex-girlfriend has confirmed that she has parted ways with the new Chelsea striker. Delap joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town following an impressive campaign in Premier League last term with the newly-promoted Tractor Boys, signing for the Blues ahead of the Club World Cup. The English striker would go on to help power the Blues to a surprise crown, beating Paris Saint-Germain in the final, and will now battle it out with Joao Pedro and Nicolas Jackson for the starting role up top. However, while the 22-year-old was away, his former partner Leanna Paul, a 25-year-old model and social media influencer, is thought to have ended the relationship with Delap. Now, though, she has confirmed the split, responding to a Q&A on Instagram with the news. Asked whether she was single, Paul wrote: 'Don't usually like talking about my personal life on here, I like to keep that private. 'But since I keep getting asked... yes I am single.' The news comes after weeks of speculation over the couple's relationship status since his move to Chelsea. At the time of the Club World Cup, she had released a cryptic statement on Instagram, which went some way to shedding light on the situation. One post read: 'You can't keep someone loyal by loving them harder.' Delap, though, clearly wasn't letting his personal life impact his playing career, as he helped Chelsea pick up their second bit of silverware in just a few months. Delap scored his first Chelsea goal during their 3-0 win over Esperance Tunis earlier in the competition, and would play six times in the competition, also providing an assist. Paul had been dating Chelsea's new striker for over a year, only for the relationship to now come to an end. The club starts its Premier League campaign at home to Crystal Palace on August 17th.

Liverpool sign Hugo Ekitiké in £79m deal after fending off late Manchester United bid

Liverpool have completed the signing of Hugo Ekitiké from Eintracht Frankfurt, with the striker rejecting a late attempt by Manchester United to hijack the transfer. The France Under-21 international has joined the Premier League champions for a guaranteed £69m plus £10m in add-ons, having undergone a medical in the UK on Tuesday. Ekitiké is understood to have signed a six-year contract and will join his new teammates on their pre-season tour of Hong Kong and Japan. The striker was a longstanding target for Liverpool, despite their interest in the Newcastle centre-forward Alexander Isak, and contact was first made with the 23-year-old's representatives in January. Arne Slot then outlined his plans for Ekitiké in a call at the end of last season. Newcastle made a move for Ekitiké last week after missing out on Liam Delap and João Pedro but their £70m bid was rejected by Eintracht and the player made it clear his preference was to join Liverpool. United also received the same information when they made a last-minute attempt to derail the deal. United's director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, is believed to have contacted Eintracht's sporting director Markus Krösche over a possible transfer but Ekitiké was already set on Anfield. Ekitiké scored 22 goals and made 12 assists in his one full season at Frankfurt, helping the club to qualify for the Champions League, and while he is primarily a No 9 Liverpool believe he can also operate as a second striker or out wide. He is potentially the third most expensive signing in Liverpool's history behind Florian Wirtz and Darwin Núñez. Anfield officials are confident he can become one of the finest forwards in the game should his recent progress with Eintracht be maintained. The former Paris Saint-Germain player is the club's seventh signing of the window, following Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and a trio of goalkeepers: Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman.
