Few were more impressive on the field than Gonzalez, who hardly passes the eyeball test at 5-foot-6 and 130 pounds. Thank goodness players in high school usually earn spots by their ability and performance and not by physical measurements.
He threw out two runners trying to steal second with throws that looked like they came out of a bazooka. Twice in the seventh inning he made plays at the plate, tagging runners with great expertise. The umpire ruled one runner safe (he looked out) and another runner out. Each time, Gonzalez moved on whether he agreed with the call or not.
Afterward, Gonzalez received hugs from teammates and coaches trying to console him. He said he believed the runner sliding the first time was out but accepted the decision. You can see how much people appreciate his presence and character.
Just like on the TV program 'The Voice,' ignore your eyes and what you see from physical dimensions. Just watch his arm strength and ability to block pitches and make plays at the plate. He was a catcher extraordinaire on a major league field. Nobody can take that away and perhaps someone will recognize he might help them in the future.

Beyond the group of defensive backs, the Cowboys dealt with some setbacks in the trenches this week. On Monday morning, the team confirmed that Rob Jones broke a bone in his neck. The veteran offensive lineman was recently added to the team on a one-year deal. The initial timeline for Jones is expected to be between two and three months. That's a big hit for Dallas, which had high hopes for the veteran after picking him up in the free agency market. During Monday's practice session, the Cowboys watched another lineman go down. The veteran Tyler Guyton was feared to have a potential ACL tear just hours after he was forced off the practice field. The Cowboys received a positive update after an MRI revealed that his ACL was intact. Instead of scheduling ACL surgery, Guyton will deal with a four-to-six recovery period after being diagnosed with a bone fracture. While it's been a tough offseason so far on the injury front, some of the injured Cowboys have time to recover before making it to Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles. The injuries are mounting at training camp for the Dallas Cowboys, with cornerback Caelen Carson the latest expected to miss multiple weeks after injuring a knee. The team reported on its website Tuesday that Carson hyperextended a knee in practice Monday and could miss four to six weeks. There's a similar time frame for left tackle Tyler Guyton, who went down with a knee fracture in the same practice in California. Offensive lineman Rob Jones broke a bone in his neck in the first padded practice of camp over the weekend and is expected to be out two to three months. Carson and Guyton are second-year players with strong chances to start. Carson would be filling in for Trevon Diggs, who isn't expected to be ready for the Sept. 4 opener at Philadelphia in what has been a long recovery from knee surgery. Last year, Carson surged into a starting role as a rookie fifth-round draft pick when DaRon Bland was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his foot late in the preseason and ended up missing the first 10 games. Carson was also limited by injuries, including a season-ending shoulder issue, and played in just six games all season after starting the first three. Dallas added depth at cornerback for camp by signing Christian Matthew, a seventh-round pick by Arizona three years ago.
