Police searching for 'pick-up' driver after cyclist dies on Scots road
Police are searching for the driver of a pick-up truck after a cyclist died being knocked down by a van on a road in West Lothian.
Emergency services were called to the A70, near Harburn in West Calder, after the alarm was raised at around 8.45am on Friday, May 2.
Officers were responding to reports of a crash involving white Vauxhall van and a cyclist.
Ambulance crews attended but the 65-year-old male cyclist was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Road policing officers are now appealing for the driver of a silver or grey pick-up to come forward to assist with their enquiries into the fatal crash.
Sergeant Fraser Mitchell said: 'As our investigation progresses, it has now been established that a silver or grey pick-up style vehicle was in the area around the time of the crash.
'It is possible that the driver may have information that would assist our enquiries and I would ask that they come forward.'
Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 0749 of May 2, 2025.

I've been having great sex with a man who's just become a father & can't end things
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) DEAR DEIDRE: THE wife of the man I'm having an affair with gave birth to their first child last week – but the sex we have together is so intense I can't bring myself to end things. I'm not completely cold-hearted. When he told me that his wife was pregnant I did try to call it off. But we only lasted a week before we met again and had sex. I'm 27 and have had a couple of long-term relationships in the past, but I have never felt the way I do about this man. He's 35. We met through a mutual friend at their birthday party a year ago. We started chatting and flirting a little but nothing else happened. I then heard that he'd got married. I bumped into him in town a few weeks later and the attraction between us was obvious. We went for a drink and got on brilliantly and he didn't mention his wife once. He then began messaging me and we agreed to meet up. This time we ended up having sex in his car. It was all so passionate and intense. Recently, he got a new job which means more travelling, so we see each other less. But when we are reunited the sex is off-the-scale good. He told me he will never leave his wife, but he becomes jealous and possessive when I tell him my plans. I'm not seeing anyone else but he hates me going out with my friends. Dear Deidre: Cheating and can you get over it Now that his wife has had their baby, I know deep down that I must let him focus on her and their child, but each time we meet we have sex. It is so passionate that I cannot resist him. DEIDRE SAYS: You must be the one to draw a line under this dead-end affair. It's not fair on you or his wife. He will continue with the arrangement as long as it's on offer. There is another lovely guy out there for you but you're not going to find him while you are having secret sex with this man who is never going to leave his wife. He has made that perfectly clear. My support pack, Your Lover Not Free?, will help you think this through. Block all contact with him to help you move on. Yes, it will take a while to get over this affair but the sooner you start, the sooner you will be through the worst of the heartache. Then you'll be ready to broaden your social life, meet new people and find love with someone more suitable. Get in touch with Deidre Every problem gets a personal reply, usually within 24 hours weekdays. Send an email to deardeidre@ You can also send a private message on the DearDeidreOfficial Facebook page. TOO TIMID TO ASK HER OUT DEAR DEIDRE: EVERY time I decide to ask this woman I work with out on a date, nerves get the better of me. I end up bottling it at the last moment and then get really annoyed with myself. I am 23 and she is 24. We have worked together at a busy pub at weekends for a few months now. The time seems to pass quickly when we are together, and she always makes time to chat with me after work. I can't decide whether she likes me or not. Sometimes I think she is interested in taking things further but then another part of me says she is just being friendly because she is like that with all the other staff too. I really want to ask her out, but I don't want to risk our friendship if this is something she doesn't want. It would make it awkward to carry on working together. DEIDRE SAYS: When you feel desperate it can affect the way you behave. See her as someone to get to know better as a friend, at least for now. While chatting, mention that you'd like the chance to get to know her better and perhaps suggest seeing a film. See it as friends going out rather than a date. That way you can relax and enjoy spending time with her. If she declines, you won't have damaged your friendship. My support pack, Shyness And Social Anxiety, will help you. WIFE WON'T MIX THINGS UP IN BED DEAR DEIDRE: I'M not asking my wife to act like a porn star, but a bit of variety now and again would stop our sex life being so boring and repetitive. I am 37 and my wife is 35. We have been together for ten years and have two young daughters. Everything is great in our relationship, except when it comes to sex. My wife is always complaining that she is too tired. Even when she does agree to it, there is rarely any foreplay and it is always in the same position. I get the sense she can't wait for it to be over. I bought her a sex toy for her birthday, but it lies in the box unopened. We both work and share childcare. Life is very busy, but I still think there should be time for sex to be a bit more exciting and for us to have fun in bed. What can I do? I can't carry on like this much longer. DEIDRE SAYS: Looking after young children can be a stressful time and puts many relationships under pressure. Pick a quiet moment when you can explain how important intimacy is to you. Start by kissing and cuddling more to bring you physically closer. Most people have one or two favourite positions for sex but sometimes need some fresh ideas. Many positions come naturally through experimenting and discovering what feels good. My support pack, Best Positions For Sex, explains more. HE'S GAY BUT IN TO WOMEN PORN DEAR DEIDRE: MY gay boyfriend is into hardcore porn involving women. While I accept watching porn is normal, it feels like he is betraying me when he watches such extreme stuff and with women. Our sex life is suffering as a result. He is 22 and I am 24. We have been together for almost a year. I love him but know that he has many faults. He lies constantly and his porn habit is now causing a lot of rows. He regularly pleasures himself to female porn and has even admitted that he thinks about having sex with women. I feel so confused and mixed up. I have always identified as gay and I always will. I have previously slept with women, but I have no wish to do so in the future. Now I wonder whether my boyfriend is pretending that I am a woman when we have sex. He tells me he loves me and doesn't want to be bisexual, but I am struggling to believe him. How can I when he behaves like this? I have been researching ways to reduce someone's sex drive. I know it might seem selfish, but I want my boyfriend to only think about me sexually. I don't know where to go from here. DEIDRE SAYS: You cannot change someone else's sexuality or safely reduce their sex drive. Your boyfriend is clearly capable of being attracted to men and women. Many people believe sexuality is fluid – and that it's not someone's sex or gender we fall in love with, but the individual. He can't change who he is but putting him under pressure to make commitments he can't keep will help neither of you. He may be uncertain himself. His lies could reflect that, but whatever reason, he doesn't sound ready to commit to your relationship. Tell him how you feel about your relationship and that you want to know him better. My Bisexual Questions support pack explains more.

Amazon delivery driver dies after horror collision with train at level crossing
The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation. An Amazon delivery driver has died after their van was hit by a train at a level crossing. British Transport Police said it was called to the railway line in Tonge, near Sittingbourne, Kent, shortly after 12.45pm on Sunday following reports of a train striking a van. Local police, ambulance and fire and rescue services also attended, but the driver died at the scene. Footage shared on social media appeared to show a large fire producing black smoke in a rural area lined with trees, while other images showed helicopters landing on fields next to the railway line. Southeastern Railway, which runs services on the line, said major disruption was expected until the end of the day. Services running between Gillingham and Faversham reopened shortly after 8.30pm. No one else was injured in the incident. An Amazon spokesperson said in a statement: 'This is a terrible incident and our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the delivery driver's family and loved ones during this difficult time. 'We will work with police and the delivery service provider as they investigate.' It is understood the victim was delivering Amazon parcels when the incident happened. The cause of the collision is under investigation. David Davidson, chief operating officer at Southeastern Railway, said: 'A train was involved in a collision with a van at a level crossing near Teynham earlier this afternoon. 'We are working with the emergency services and the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) following this incident.' Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! In a later update, Mr Davidson said: 'We are deeply saddened to confirm that the driver of the road vehicle involved in the collision with a train earlier today has tragically died. 'Our thoughts are with their family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. 'No one else was injured in the incident. We are working hard to reopen the line later this evening and expect to run a full service tomorrow.' Replacement buses are currently running between Gillingham and Faversham and Sittingbourne and Sheerness-on-Sea with the line still blocked, while ticket acceptance was in place on other Southeastern high-speed trains, Thameslink and Fast Track buses, Mr Davidson said. Passengers on the train involved in the crash were transferred on to another train and taken to Sittingbourne for onward travel. Kent Police said it was called to a report of the collision at a level crossing in Lower Road, Teynham, at 12.43pm, and that patrols remain at the scene. South East Coast Ambulance Service said crews including its Hazardous Area Response Team attended the scene, and were joined by regional Air Ambulance providers.

Farmer who found lost German backpacker in Outback reveals moment she found the tourist who ‘slept in a cave to survive'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THE hero farmer who found a missing backpacker in the Australian Outback has revealed the first words she said to the lost woman. Tania French discovered a dishevelled Carolina Wilga, 26, on the side of a remote stretch of road 12 days after the German first vanished. After pulling over, Tania comforted Carolina and gave her a big hug and told the woman about the desperate search efforts over her. Tania told 7News: "I stopped. I went out and gave her a hug, I said, 'look, everyone has been looking for you.' "She couldn't believe it. She didn't realise how long [she had been missing]." Carolina then called the farmer from Wheatbelt, Western Australia, her "guardian angel". Tania was picking up a truck from Beacon on Friday - about 186 miles northeast of Perth - when she first spotted Carolina. The road she was travelling down is a rarely used route for locals and tourists with Tania saying her seeing the German was "meant to be". "The chance of me going down that road and meeting up with her was incredible," the farmer said. "It was meant to be, because no one goes up and down that road." She added the backpacker looked noticeably thin but appeared in good health despite not being seen or heard from since June 29. Missing backpacker found ALIVE after nearly two weeks wandering Oz bushland Police believed Carolina had become disoriented and walked into bushland after her van broke down in the Karroun Hill area in Western Australia's outback. The region is said to be an unforgiving expanse, described by authorities as remote, rocky and inhospitable. After spending a night trying to repair the vehicle, Carolina decided to go off and find help on her own. With minimal food and water, the German backpacker followed the sun's position to head west. The temperature in the area had dropped down to zero degrees at night and there was heavy rain. At one point, she even reportedly sought refuge inside a cave and drank water from puddles to survive. A Facebook page titled 'Help Find Carolina was launched to assist the search as WA Police issued an urgent nationwide appeal for information. Cops managed to track her last known texts which were sent to a friend in the early hours of June 29. 9 Carolina was in a van travelling through the Outback when she broke down and tried to walk to safety Credit: AFP 9 She was spotted wearing a long beige jumper and light blue jeans before she went missing Credit: Western Australia Police Force 9 Carolina had been backpacking across Australia for two years Credit: AFP At 7am, Carolina reportedly said she wouldn't be able to drop off a book and a jerry can to her pal because she had 'some stuff she needed to handle'. She was then spotted in the van at a local store in the tiny town of Beacon on June 29 at around 12.10pm. She went missing the following day. The van — equipped with solar panels and water — was later found on Thursday, but there was no sign of the missing woman. Tania would be the first person to see Carolina after the ordeal as she informed police of her incredible discovery. WA police's Martin Glynn told reporters on Friday that Carolina is now in good health and recovering. He said: 'As you can imagine, from the trauma she suffered for the last few days, she's been obviously through a great deal. 'She does have some injuries. She's been ravaged by mosquitoes."
