‘It became unbearable' - Mbali Nkosi on leaving acting, venturing into DJing and soaring spiritually
While that role left many desiring to see her flex her acting muscle more, Mbali Nkosi was on her way out of the acting space.
Being the all-rounded creative that she is, she seamlessly pivoted into the DJing world, taking it by storm.
She tells Drum that the DJ hat has been her favourite to wear and embrace.
'There is no better feeling than watching people have a great time and you're vibing to the same frequency, same energy, and same music.'
For her, behind the decks 'is a place where you can create, a place where your skill and talent are purely judged on that. It's rather freeing, it's very fulfilling. I feel a lot of people tend to judge easily on many things but with DJing is based on skill which I appreciate,' she adds.

Many may not realise that her DJ journey began in 2011.
After overcoming her fear of what others might say, she decided to pursue her passion and enrolled in TRNS Academy, a DJ school, in 2023. This leap of faith allowed her to flourish and reach new heights, much like an eagle soaring through the sky.
The award-winning entrepreneur has set local and international stages on fire with her afro-tech, Gqom and 3-step steps.
Although she's worked her way up to cementing her greatness in the DJing industry, questions of why she left the acting industry linger.

Spilling the beans to Drum, she says she had big dreams and aspirations for herself as an actress.
'I had aspirations of playing an action role like in Colombiana, a role that had a story and a journey in it, a villain era as well, I would have also loved to do Broadway, combining dance, music, and acting all in one.'
However, she adds, she had an early exit due to the dark truths of the acting industry.
'I left acting because it became a very toxic environment, and I went into a depressive state. I hated going to work, and it became unbearable. I couldn't see my life being filled with negativity and depressive episodes. People were requesting or expecting sexual favours, and the fact that you get minimal pay for long hours and no royalties [wasn't working for me].'

And now that she's a solo rider in her work as a DJ, she couldn't be happier and more fulfilled.
Mbali has even leaped further with the release of a debut EP titled Elements.
'I'm so excited about Elements. It's more than just a collection of songs, it's a tribute to the universe, the self, and the powerful forces that connect us all. Rooted in the five African elements: earth, air, water, fire, and spirit - each track embodies the essence of its element, creating an immersive experience that honors both nature and the divine within.'
Her music will clearly not end as a stint but as a spiritually woven journey that will give solace through beats and lyrics while she discovers herself poetically in the process.

This Isn't the First Time These Hard Rock Legends Have Said Goodbye
This Isn't the First Time These Hard Rock Legends Have Said Goodbye originally appeared on Parade. With the big "Back to the Beginning" farewell /Black Sabbath concert extravaganza set for July 5, fans might recall that this isn't the first time that the iconic frontman and hard rock legends have said goodbye. Back in 2016, the band was on a tour billed as 'The End,' to support their 2013 album 13. That album opens with a song titled 'End of the Beginning,' in which Osbourne sings 'Is this the end of the beginning or the beginning of the end?' 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 Back then, Black Sabbath discussed doing one final album followed by another tour but decided to scrap their plans for another studio effort and instead opted to hit the road on a four-leg trek that hit Australia and New Zealand, then Europe, before closing in North America. In advance of that tour, this writer interviewed Osbourne and bassist/lyricist for Yahoo! Music in Osbourne's office, in the back of his Beverly Hills estate. Both Sabbath legends said during that interview the decision to forgo another studio effort came down primarily to a matter of time. 'It would have taken another three years to write and record another album,' Osbourne explained. 'We just felt we wanted to tour.'Back in 2016, Osbourne was already talking like the band was finished after 'The End' tour. 'I'm glad we're all still alive. I'm glad we can still play. I'm glad that we all still want to play, and I'm glad it's the end because we didn't want to fizzle out,' he added. 'To end up with a final thing with the guys I started off with is great. I'm not saying I'm retiring, because I'm still going to be doing some kind of musical thing, but it's been a great journey. We never thought when we first went into the studio in 1969, early 1970, that we were going to last five years, and here we are nearly 50 years up the road and we're still active. That's what really is important to me. "One of my favorite things is we weren't a band that was created by some business guy in London,' Osbourne continued. 'We're four guys. I was in a band with Terry [Geezer], [guitarist] Tony [Iommi] was in a band with [drummer] Bill [Ward]. I went to school with Tony. We came from a three-mile radius of each other, and we formed a band to have a bit of fun and here we are on this amazing journey. I'm glad it's coming to an end on a high note, for a change.' Emma Grede always wears things twice
At Emma Grede's first job as a fashion show producer, she was told to wear black so she wouldn't stand out. But even back then, she refused to fade into the background. 'I bought whatever I could afford from Balenciaga or Celine,' she says. 'I have always used my clothes as a tool (of self-expression).' Grede is one of the best-known entrepreneurs of our time. She's the business mastermind behind Skims, Good American and the newly launched sports fashion startup Off Season. But even in the glitzy world of fashion, she's become notable for her style. Grede believes that our clothes should be a way to channel our creativity and personality, particularly in the world of business. On a recent trip to London, her hometown, her team captured her outfits of the day, which included a white Jacquemus jacket and matching cargo pants set paired with pointed Balenciaga heels, and a blue striped Proenza Schouler top and skirt paired with strappy YSL heels. 'I dress entirely to please myself,' she says. 'Depending on the day, that could be for comfort, or convenience, or because I want to feel bad ass.' While Grede has always been stylish, she's spent much of her career behind the scenes. In 2008, she launched the talent management firm ITB Worldwide which was acquired a decade later. She then partnered with members of the Kardashian family to co-found Good American, Skims and Safely, letting her more famous co-founders be the face of the brand. But these days, she's becoming a personality in her own right, as a judge on Shark Tank and Dragon's Den. She's recently launched a podcast called Aspire with Emma Grede where she's interviewed everyone from Michelle Obama to Gwyneth Paltrow. As a mother of four with a demanding schedule, Grede doesn't have a lot of time to strategize about her outfits. And even though her looks vary, she developed a kind of formula to what she wears. She wears a lot of denim, including Vintage Levi's and Frame. She has a collection of white and striped Oxford shirts from Celine, YSY, and Comme Des Garcons, and she also loves a good heel. 'There is literally nothing in my closet that only gets worn once,' she says. 'There's something about the simplicity of not really choosing something new every day that's really freeing.' Describe your style in a sentence. That's so hard, I dress how I feel and I feel different all the time! What's the one piece in your closet you'll never get rid of? I have so many things but probably a pair of Gucci loafers I've had since I was 15. I bought them for myself, and it was such a big deal at the time. How long does it take you to get dressed in the morning? Five minutes. I pull outfits ahead of time. What do you wear to a big meeting? Something that has bought me luck in the past I'm very superstitious. What's the best piece of fashion advice you've ever gotten? To embrace my individuality and do what makes you feel good. The early-rate deadline for Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies Awards is Friday, September 5, at 11:59 p.m. PT. Apply today.
